  1. Yep that's the way that I was taught. It is also true that Olympic shooters and nearly all snipers have been found to fire their shot between heartbeats. Sounds crazy but true. They were wired up to monitors. The shooters themselves don't even know they are doing it. Anyway, whatever the reason for the split grouping lets hope it's fixed sharpish. All the best H
  2. Both well said. If too close the pellet will go straight through the body with little enough damage to bring the animal/bird down. Rabbits head, neck and chest only. Birds, head, neck, and throat, (just above the crop between the breast bone or 'keel'. Crows have the stiffest feathers of the vermin, pigeon well padded but very good penetration, magpies, easy and jays are nothing but fluff. Good hunting. H
  3. I use a gas ram in the webley exocet, from the shooting position there is still quite a thunk. Swapped with a mate for a few minutes and his bsa springer was really loud in comparison. When he shot my gun next to me it was less than half the volume. I have been thoroughly impressed with the ram. If you are shooting .22, do not buy a .177 ram as this will take you well over 12ftlb though. Good luck. H
  4. He he. Father inlaw got a couple sent over from the states. They attracted the bloody moles, it was like something out of Dune!
  5. Fantastic response! Thanks guys, all very helpfull. I was thinking of making a baffle just a couple of centimetres high. Nothing knew in my design though! Beaten to it a couple of hundred years ago by the looks of it!. Has anyone used one here? Any success? Does one inmate attract others? I think Johns book is gonna be a corker! Cheers all. H
  6. For my next trick I would like to produce a multicatch squirrel trap. I have seen the pics and they don't look hard, however, one thing I'm not sure about is the baffle. Does this prevent the squirrel from getting under the flap door? Is that what it's for? Angle? Size? Does anyone have any info or plans for one please? You know I'm not going to buy one! Cheers all H
  7. I found them to be even more cautious than magpies. I catch mine in a cage trap I made for squirrels, then deal with them up close. They love the peanuts and monkey nuts, as well as acorns, as ditch suggested. H
  8. Am in hampshire with no transport currently... Sounds good too Bummer H
  9. It's to make more cage traps. The doors are not strong enough, and I cant attach a spring because the mesh bends under the strain. Unless I make a wire frame, but that just complicated things... H
  10. I read that you're supposed to hold half way through the out breath, then pull the trigger! Works for me! The last part is correct. The shot should be taken at a half expelled breath and the trigger is squeezed not pulled. Personally I think it is mechanical. Let us know how you get on and what the prob was if you fix it. We all need the knowledge. H
  11. Ok, one more thing. Does your scope have afocus ring at the back next to your eye? If it does, screw it in by a few turns, when I shot many years ago as a beginner, I had a problem where the shots were splaying out by about 3 inches at 500 yds ( rifles mind not airguns), it turned out I had not set the scope back far enough and so tried to compensate by screwing out the eye peice to meet my eye. My sergeant kicked my arse...
  12. Well the obvious thing to look for would be slippage. Check that the scope hasn't crept at all and that it is tight but not overtight, Then clean the barrel, sometimes the tiniest particle of residue can throw a shot off, not usually that consistantly though I grant you. Are your pellets lubed? Fresh from the tin or in a pouch/pocket?
  13. Are your groups one above the other or side by side? Are the two groups using the same ammo or the accupels and JSB's?
  14. Not a bad range on that scope. 50mm will ensure good light, even up close on an evening shoot. If you are shooting at 12ftlb, your max range is going to be 60 yards, head shots only. Once you have set the scope, 2 inches from your eye at rest, bench rest the gun and using 3 targets, 1 at 20 yards, 1 at 30-35 yards, and the other at 45-50 yards. Set the parallax view on the middle one. So that the reticule and the target are both in sharp focus, this is done at the scopes lowest setting of 6. Even at 50-60 yards, you won't be going above 8 on the scopes zoom. Zero the scope horizontal
  15. Thanks guys. Piss poor down south. Will try both of your recommendations, the postage would be a killer lol! H
  16. Try these mate............. www.fhbrundle.com Rolfe. Thanks for that, but they only deal with trade.
  17. It's not a dig at you personally. I have been PM'd several times, probably because I ask a lot of questions to gain the knowledge I don't have. I have also read nearly every post to try and ensure that I don't ask what has already been asked. But the problem is ...in my tiny mind only I guess..is that if advice is given to someone who does not have permission to hunt the land that they are on, it is almost becoming an accomplice. Ok. It might be just me, but that's my opinion. I have nothing against sharing knowledge, and as Snareman has pointed out, the more people who do it proper
  18. Sorry, I can't be more helpfull as I don't know where you are. Honestly the best way would be to google. H
  19. Heh, heh. I don't pretend to have vast amounts of knowledge on anything. And you are the only one (so far) who have taken offence at this. Keep going though, it's getting to be fun. H
  20. Lol. The whole post, if you care to read it properly, is about hunting of any sort without permission. Something to hide pip? I have no problem with entrails in or out. Perhaps I shall post a topic on how to bait a larson with a gutted rabbit, would that offend you?
  21. I'm sure it will be fine. As long as the squirrel can get to the bait without having to chew the pipe open. H
