thats them, all top class dogs,but was it just down to the breeding? or as BBB say s there top class training, feeding ect,a good trainer can make alot of difference,to peak a dog at the right time takes skill.did all the dogs in these coursingmeetings recieve the same training,some were most likely pets that got a run now and again ,not a chance against a properly trained dog,or a combination of both?BB the breeding as alot to do with it,but all the other factors as alot to do with it,peaking a dog for one meeting is easy but to do it week in week out is the difficult bit,these dogs did it

watched a vid the other day,whippet coursing with a top club pre ban 03 i think,very impressed with a couple of dogs on it, my question is were these four that special or were the trainers e.g The Dent's and Mr Gray just exceptional at conditioning dogs and getting them in tip top condition for that days coursing?

why strange? is that all you have to add to an interesting topic?

Despite what a lot of people think, some of the top coursing lines are still around, and you can see them in the show ring. Up until the ban some of the top kennels would regularly be winning coursing meetings and show rosettes. Coursing whippets were usually finer than the Mike Brown-types (got nothing against them by the way, brilliant at what they're bred for), and definitely smaller TTS than a lot of the whippets you see these days. I think 20" was the limit under coursing rules. cheers ,would a coursing bred pup fetch more than a working bred ?working breds around £350?as the pos

do proper coursing bred whippets exist still? or are they all mike brown ,working ss type now ?are they the same thing or different?i think a coursing bred dog is a finer built animal i could be wrong BB

i must confess i used to shoot hares years ago,saw too many wounded not by me but shit shots with shotguns,anyone can get a gun and without any training go into the field an shoot and wound these amazing creatures,i stopped shooting them 15 yrs ago,love to see them run by a good dog no finer feeling in the world for me,a dog will take out the weak and the old thus leaving the fittest to breed to the fittest thus inproving the breed if it catch s its dead if not its alive not wounded ,a shotgun is indiscriminate I think there will always be a division between running dog men and shooters;

lurcher barking after its game
barnslyben replied to munsterlurcher's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
does she start barking right at the beginning of the run or half way in to it? coz if its half way in to it its frustrated that she cant catch it at what age did you start her?it could be cause she was too young for big rabbits ,go back to basic s let her have a few easy catches on bunnie s for now then try her next season that s what i would do.a mate had a whippet that did this but it was nt frustation it copied the beddyx whipas she used to yap,so he did nt run them together again ,after a while she stopped hope this helps BB -
was nt worjohn an non-ped ex racer who worked? im sure some lads still use the non peds on live ,or maybe not?BB
-
nice dog that,not all track dogs are small some weigh more than yours,if a non ped was brought up like a lurcher from a young age and worked could it cut it in the field?i like all whips ,but ,now days non peds are just raced,but years ago they had to do both ,a lad in the 70s had one that took fox and roe ,yes they might not have the stamina of a ped ,but i lad who had once said to me i want my dog to catch on my land not in the next parish ,any more views on this ?all the best BB

thanks for the info ,her sire had it too,must be a hereditory thing then,he was a non ped whippet,at the time i thought the hair loss was from the muscle rub the racers use, i will try a few things that s been mentioned thanks BB
