  1. Personally, having reared a few ophraned birds, i would continue to feed the chaffy for four or five days with the syringe and also a few maggots (white) or mealworms from my fingers. The chick will beg and expect you to go to it. But after a few days, if its hungry it should go to your fingers for its feed of magots. Once it is taking them from your fingers you have cracked it. Feed a maggot to the bird but as it takes it lower your fingers so that the bird is taking it from the floor. The next maggot put on the floor and just place your finger on it to stop it wriggling. If the chaffy is hung
  2. On flowing water i tie a dropper for a Black and peacock, with a greenwells on the point. Size14 both Love the wet fly and once saw my father take a 4lb chub on the point and a dace on the dropper from a fast swim! Also had a great deal of success with the north country spider patterns such as snipe and purple and partridge and orange. For dry i like to use small black "midge" patterns of my own tying. Size 16-20 i find the best. I use a platil tapered cast to get good turn over and mostly use a little 7ft hardy smuggler that i have together with a featherweight and #4 w/f line. A great bi
  3. Nice lookin pup.....is the "max" in its breeding spewdogs max?
  4. For calling in roebucks i hear a call called the "Buttollo" is meant to be very good though i have never used one when i conjunction with a lurcher. The rifle lads say they are amazing if the timing is right....
  5. 3rd pic , the one in green, 6th pic and 8th pic.....
  6. You will need some 1mil shringes and also a 2-2 1/2 mil shringe. Fill the larger shringe with a soft dog food...pedigree chum pouches are ideal. Use this large shringe to fill the smaller ones. Use the shringe to open the chafys mouth and place the shringe in the birds RHS of its mouth and make sure the shringe is a fair way down. Then just let it have some nice and steady. I wouldnt touch th ce-de or egg food or even the "hand rearing" food either with a barge pole. The chaffy should swallow automatically with the shringe method. Obviously it depends on how old it is. good luck....
  7. Perhaps the border wouldnt have made the grade anyway. If she couldnt make it when older then she obviously didnt have the minerals ....or was she too hard? You surely cannot say that the border did not make the grade due to being held back?....... From what little i have seen, if they dont have it in them, they dont have it in them.....there is a much bigger chance of the dog spewing when entered when mentally immature. One good trouncing can ruin the dog for ever. Not all dogs, but some. Kane, you don't have to argue with everything all the time, i hope that one day, before my time is out
  8. Yes, PLEASE answer my question......or have you conveniently forgot come on Kaney.....answer the question...... R.e the Sika, scoob was the only dog off the lead and, like i wrote, i had to give him a hand as it was a very large critter...... No lies from me matey...well only little white ones.... :11: :11: So come on Kaney, lets have the answer... and while your at it why not answer the other questions old chap.... :11:
  9. OOppss...forgot to add......And do your dogs work single handed....or have you been known to double up cos they get lonely down their all on their own :11: :11: :11: :11: :11: :11: :11: :11:
  10. Kane, still waiting for your answer....how can a dog be spoiled by holding back........cheers... You must have some good digging dogs Kane as you constantly tell us how and where we are going wrong. How many do you dig in a season, and how long do your dogs stay below for?. Lets have a few pics of your decent digs mate...., but please, none that have been in the photoshop first lolol..... :11: :11: :11: :11: and please no summertime work either, i dont like seeing summer hunting really, like those pics of deer you often put up.... :11:

    Racing pigeons

Moll, often their name and address of their owners are stamped onto the pigeons flight feathers wil a rubber stamp. This is the number to telephone. BUT the owner may not want him back if he got lost in the first place!!!! :11: Personally i woudl think of knocking up a smallish loft and keeping them for a while.....
  12. No mate, the vast majority of first season newts will be out of the water by mid-september with only a few (if they have been poor growers) remaining behind. They will all emerge en masse and crawl away and hide. This will happen during the night and you probably will not see them. They will be around 3/4 of an inch in length if they are smooth/palmate, but a little longer if Gcrested. Good luck with them.....
  13. Big statement that, without knowing and working every strain type or bloodline, not many would be arrogant enough to make it.JMO Kane. Tell me how it is possible to spoil a working dog by holding it back. You talk like some kind of legend mate and put down everything what everyone says. Opinions are opinions. Nothing to do with arrogance>....SO, answer the question....Please tell me how it is possible to ruin a pup by holding it back....i await your knowledgeable answer..... :11: :11: A terriers mental maturity is the key IMHO...
  14. I would be getting that stuffed mate... top quality
  15. I read a book as a young lad but cannot remember its name. It starts soemthing like " As i walked out into the light from the darkness of the cinema" its about a group called "Soc's" or something like like in america.... does anyone know what i am talking about?.,.or have i finally cracked up?
  16. Pick them up and place them in the most densest part of your garden just before nightfall..... they may come back to the water, butmore likely just hide away under where ever they can, and beleive me, a newt can get anywhere.,...
  17. No dog, of whatever breed, has ever been spoilt by holding it back....in the grand scale of things, there really is no rush

  19. Bone radial is bought in small bottles and is used for callousing up meak areas of bone, i.e where slight fracture may have occured etc. Used it myself and it is very good indeed, but advice needs to be sought from a greyhound man prior to treatment.... Used Curracko, funny smell, but not unpleasant
