Catcher, When I first started obsessing over the TC's I found practically all nests robbed. They are just so vulnerable to these verminous tree rats. After while it really started to grate on me until i thought....'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore'..... Lots of dead squirrels later and, after a bit of a think, i managed to put up a dozen or so of these nesting sites, not checked them all yet, but if i get four pairs per year i will be happy for i know that they will successfully rear chicks... I hand reared a couple of treecreepers once...that was interesting. T

Nutters are safe from squirrels, TC's are the most vulnerable bird IMO.

No mate, its just a sheet of metal, shaped to resemble loose bark, being atypical TC nesting site. The entrance is doubled up and the whole thing nailed to tree's in a suitable position and camoflaged with several shades of spray paint. This is one of last years that i hadn't painted, but its all been done now. Interestingly enough, this one is the only empty one this year! odd!

I checked six nest sites i had erected for the TC's. Found one empty, 2 with blue tits, one with a great tit and 2 with treecreepers....Well chuffed, no squirrel will be able to get to them either... Pics not too good due to the nature of the nest sites, but heres a couple...

I'm pretty much of the same opinion mate and I wasn't going to take any out its just the time she was sat on them for between eggs I was worried about. She's sat tight now so there's either 4 or 5 under her, time will tell if they hatch or not. I've not seen the cock tread her either so fingers crossed. you won't do unless you woke them up! The cock birds always seem to have Morning Glory...randy buggers!

A powerful image. The Monks had told journalists that 'something special' was going to happen at that place and that time. Some turned up but no one ever expected to see such a thing. Personally, i couldn't have coped with watching that. Long after we are all dead and buried that image will remain.
