    Got a terrier off me Grandad when I was 5/6...he worked old russel types mostly, but he bred his good bitch to a lakie/fell sort this time, and I got a black pup... It was supposed to be a family pet lol big mistake....Barney was his name...he was hunting daft, and it wasnt long before we were putting bits and bobs in the bag... he sadly got killed by a car a couple of years later but he certainly got me started. The next 'family pet' dog was a collie cur, he made old bones, was a decent moochers dog for rabbits and feather, and I soon added ferrets to the team and I was in business haha

    Any chance of a pic of yours mate.the wife even loves them so fingers crossed. They fit right in with the lurchers and terriers mate, no need to pack anything in! They will drive a wood block on their own, mark holes, kill stuff, point owt that moves and play the drums, what more reasons do you need? lol

    They have cocker, patt/ russell in them. I do miss those little black hounds. Imagine the craic we could of had with them in Hungary... I miss them too, they would have enjoyed themselves, no doubts!

    I think a dog gets a lot more from eating a chunk of animal than just the raw ingredients... they love the act of munching away on it for a while, im sure this goes a long way to allowing the dog to follow its natural eating methods. The bone also keeps the teeth in tip top condition too, you dont get that from much else.. Im not against feeding anything to a dog, I feed tons of leftovers and also get some high protein dry shit from time to time especially to tick them them over the heat of summer...but its too easy to see that plenty of good meat/fat/bone is the best for keeping a hard worki

    Thesedays I am leaning towards larger dogs, they suit me well on this steep tree covered mountain as they cover the rough land better/faster. Also they will chip in while doing vermin with the terriers, and hunting boar abroad. Im sure when Im over the pond they will also enjoy the odd coon. I like a fast-hunting dog, medium range going out to 3 or 4 km... I have 2 silent and 2 open up, but I run them with tracking gear so not too bothered about voice while hunting. (one of the silent dogs will hold a boar silently, the other will scream on sighting the quarry and will bay up) Anyone el

    If you were trying to establish a line, it takes a hell of a lot of breeding, and it might be very difficult to get each young terrier enough graft, so some folk will dish them out to friends, pest controllers, terriermen etc who can graft them, and if they make the grade they can be included in the breeding program.

    this is why I dont go to many shows, cant stand all this bollox... who cares which dog gets picked! If I was judging Id pick the ugliest feckers there just to wind you ribbon chasers up.

    I used to go... cant make it this year, working my ass off away from the north east. Those who asked about lurcher//sighthound classes.... YES they have all the usual terrier, lurcher classes. Like said, some real good folk there who keep some proper good stock... dont let the ribbons rule the day... have a pint or two at the bar, and a good craic with the lads and lasses DnN
