  1. no mate dont have a pack but we are trying to get a few hounds together just a few things i asked myself witch i think might help other make up there mind i sent you a pm the other day about getting out mate robert
  2. there are some real decent lads on here but alot dont even bother to post any thing any more because of all the rubbish
  3. the thoughts of starting a pack seems to be on a lot of peoples minds at the minute eveyrone seems to be trying to get hold of working hounds with the thoughts of running foxes to ground but is there enough thought going in to this its all to easy to get your hands on substandered shy nervous hound witch have seen little but the hunting ground they work in if your one of the many looking to start a small pack of hounds and going into it with cloudy vision here is a few thing to think about before you get your hounds first and foremost do you really have the time to give them they need
  4. there are a few about mate but a lot are not full welsh most have a bit of harrier dont know the reason for this but it must bring something to the mix is it a bit more speed or something eles i dont know as im only really only getting into hounds myself and trying to learn as much as my brain will let me. a fella i know is over the moon with what he has crash any cover best of luck finding what you after would love to see you hounds run if intrested send me pm robert
  5. the whippet seen in ireland im afraid is go in down the same slippery road that terrier and lurchers have been going down for a while with that dogs more greyhound than whippet that dogs never seen a rabbit that dogs not kc reg and so on dont get me wrong there isnt anything more annoying than people telling your mate they dont work there dogs only to see them in the working whippet class but each to there own I set up the northern ireland working whippet club a few years ago now to promote the whippet as a working dog and bring the lads that work these wonderful dogs together over the summe

  7. 6 week before the start of the season is when it really start to get the dog fit for the season i always make sure the dog is well wormed and flead before i start diet chicken mixed veg bit of oil and a few extras codliver oil multi vitimins week 1 4 miles in the morning on the road evening just let the dog have a gallop of the lead once kenneled let him have a bone just to keep him his teeth clean and stop him getting board week 2 4 miles at a quick walking pase in morning with a bit free running at the end evening same as week 1 week 3 monday 3 quick m
  8. margret you have to take the rough with the smooth at these shows some people like to rant and rave ie thats a greyhound raceing that dogs not worked and so on and from time to time the judge is gonna get a bit of stick thats the way it is in every sport and a good judge just laughs it of because deep down he knows that most of them would never put themselfs forword to run a show or judge a show for fear of being on the receiving end keep or chin up ill see you both on sunday all the best robert

  19. what i do with my gundogs mate is teach them the hold command. Sit them down and place the ball/dummy in their mouth and repeat hold hold...... etc... and then a release command - i always use 'leave that' but whatever works for you. after a few times and you can see the dog is understanding the command you can just say hold once and then wait 30 seconds and then the release command. when you are sure she knows the hold command say hold as she is coming into you with the retrieve, you should find she will hold it out of habit and you'll have the perfect retrieve, if she drops it place it in
