    scent was very patchy start of the season alot the hunting was start stop but seemed to still get decent results after christmas things got bit better and had some good hunting but had to stop hounds a few times due to going to ground we dont hunt also seemed to cold mark a right few after some wet weather ive a few hound that are just getting going so hopefully they will improve next season

    perfair the welsh hound myself but keep couple english and a fell x english not be long to season starts again its all about bounding with the pups for next few months stock breaking and trying keep the older ones from trying kill each other many hounds yous hunting yourselfs

    ive 4 and a half couple in kennels at minute plus litter of pups with bit of luck they will work out

    ill throw a spanner in the works here what do you class as a good pack to me its a pack that accounts for foxes be it running it to ground in 5 minutes or whatever time it takes to me its about providing a service to land owners and getting them results ive seen some packs that worked and could hunt really well together hunting same fox for hour or more but never seemed to put enough pressure to put it to ground and in the end it give them the slip

    have nt been to wales hunting myself hopefully one day but the mate in yorkshire has been a few time and says it great hunting country as for how good the foxes are theres good and bad the best hunt we had this season think was round a hour and a half was at a meet last year and after the days hunting we where in the bar talking for these great long hunts that packs claim to have 3 hours and so on when out for the blue one the terrier lads said listen if your hounds cant put it to ground in less then 45 minute your hounds are to slow and need culled it all went silent

    they are mostly welsh foxhounds and a few fell x english im not saying they are the best hounds in the world far from it but for me they get me results that im happy with

    goliath are own pack start at 8 or 830 and finish most days round dark and if i thought any of them would jack they sure as hell would not be there but then again they get excercised ever day and in summer get biked for 4 or 5 miles each day just to take the edge of them so they are right and fit i know the mounted foxhound packs are only out few hour i watched a local pack on boxing day and id say they spent half hour in the field the rest was spent trotting round roads

    in one the recent topics there has been abit of talk about the drive of the harriers personally im a foxhound man i started out with harriers and there crosses more so because thats all i could get my hands on at the time now i had some decent hunting but each time i had them out i just wanted to pull my hair out they would hunt most things and i just could not stop them hunting hares now i must admit they where older hounds when i got them and entered a couple pups along side them in turn the older dogs help destory the pups thinking back now if id of just started out with a couple of pup

    the misses showed me that the pack splint and went threw all the ewes dont know any more

    good day then mate had good day are selfs first fox was a fast spin before they marked him the seconed a better hunt he took the hounds on a good run found them marking hounds accounted of this one scent seems to be picking up

    there sure are more killed in that way mate but to me it not hound work it flushing its just not for me but i understand that it does have to be done but for me its just the buzz i get from watching the hounds work hard to try and unravel the scent some time the fly other times you want to cull the lot but thats the way it goes it has its ups and downs

    if the hounds are only exercising the fox then its time to look long and hard at the hounds you have kenneled
