  1. yeah i'd say she has a chance but if she tried to do it regularly then obviously the odds get built up for her to get injured but once or twice a season she'd probably fair alright
  2. depends how they were brought up if they both were well socialised but still are aggressive then don't breed if tthey were kept around other aggressive dogs from day one then its probably how they think they should act or how they had to act to stop from getting killed!! no -one on here knows the dogs like you so its your decision!!
  3. its been said before that dogs of 20" will take all quarry but it gonna get knocked about by thee bigger stuff! and poss carried around by the bigger deer species............but then a big dog loses agility If you wnat to take everything and if your young like myself  and can only have one dog then i would say have a dog which will be able to physically take bigger stuff..........something around 24"- 26" would cover most stuff.......... if your after taking 1 fox as a maybe once a season then a beedy whippet would probably suffice but some of the people on here used to(before
  4. i find a couple of whacks from a catapult of pea shingle keeps them away
  5. i'd say all sound advice but my 2p's worth is when you lamp a rabbit, if it isn't on short grass then squat down and get on the same eyeline as your dog so you can get an idea of what he can see!! I tell you its a real eye opener, i couldn't see half the rabbits i could when stood up
  6. yeah i think i am! well you see where illegal quarry to run is concern i seem to lose all ability to hold a gun steady then i just don't know where or if i hit it so its best to let the dog get it to make sure that no animal suffer a slow death!! It is all about animals not suffering!! And thats why its a sh*t, unworkable law!!
  7. can't kill it unless there is reasonable cause to think it is injured! so you can't let your dog kill anything unless it is injured..........you can only use two dogs to track and flush quarry to waiting guns....but that is to do with uninjured quarry. I'm 99.9% sure on this
  8. yeah you can use dogs to catch wounded quarry.........thats the main loophole if a shot has been fired then the quarry could be wounded and therefore a dog SHOULD be used to prevent suffering!! Infact no stalker should be without a dog be it a teckel to greyhound....they all follow scent and can pursue wounded quarry.........this applies to all species!!! so shoot at a fox and if it runs but you have reasonable concern that it is injured then it is legal to let a dog prevent suffering........
  9. as regards to the fox comment i use my dog to bring down any foxes that could have been injured.......
  10. i use the clusion and maybe it was just set up right but my dog don't lose the rabbit in the beam, he loses them to those holes in the ground but i don't think a different lamp will help that..... i can see the clusion being to small for preban deer and fox never lamped hare so don't know but i can't see much when he's the other side of a field on the run..... ..although he caught a couple last night along way off..........i'll ask him what he reckons :11: To say Cheerrs millet i might give that ago if he starts lamping longer slips...........does the tighter beam make it lon
  11. wolves are pack animals and when they kill everything is eaten! they dont kill to eat gut contents my dogs are on barf and will thieve meat if left out yet i have never seen them raid the veg basket open in the kitchen i have always questioned veg in the barf diet if it is needed why does it have to be cooked and mushed up? admitedly but i was just saying why it was in there and that dogs aren't just carnivores i know they eat everything but they also eat the green stuff......................also dogs don't have the enzymes o break down grasses etc thats why when they eat it it comes ou
  12. Buster you have been brain washed redmils better than barf DOG= CARNIVORE = MEAT dead simple in it DOG = CARNIVORE = DRIED VEGETABLE MATTER i dont think so 20 milloin years dogs have been eating flesh , and you think milled dried veg is what they need Tomo Dogs are not carnivores, they are omnivores! They eat everything............... also wolves etc in the wild eat the gut content Gut content = milled vegetables
  13. I once heard a guy say rest is as good as training when getting the dog fit..............they need both!! I feed my dog Autarky puppy....he isn't a big eater and can not get alot down him so it helps as its high in all the things he needs plus i mix in a little skinners working dog crunch this has all the oils etc he needs and i have to feed him twice a day i know some will say thats an expensive way but i found thats what he does best on and hes does look good on it!! and how do you put a p[rice on your dogs health Autarky is a complete food with nothing artificial.....he never ha
  14. thats cool but some people on here go after stuff that maybe they shouldn't and in the dog world since the ban i suppose you gotta help each other out and watch each others back............i'm sure your greyhounds will do alright...........practice all your methods with them and it'll help with your lurcher pup and they should pick up a few rabbits on the way..............they prob won't be great but they will fair ok and it gives them a run or 2............. Good Luck
  15. can i ask where you got your dogs from and have you any pics? I know what you mean joeb it was only the 22nd August she was thinking of getting a dog and what cross? but i had i hard time when i first came on here so the benefit of the doubt?????????
  16. i chuck fur covered dummys all round a football field then lamp them and get him retreiving ........ then went some where where i didn't care that the rabbits got lamp shy(they all hug the hedgerow) and just held the light on them walking towards them without slipping him, my boy soon picked up that live rabbits as well as dummies were in the light beam, a bit more retreiving of the dummies then off for a nice easy night hedouldn't gab them but always goes down the beam, if i stop the light for too long he just wants to run down it then when i took him out with a couple of other peoples dogs w
  17. sorry to hear that JD, he was the dog that inspired me to start lurcher work!! never saw him but his legend proceeded him..........gutted for you!!!
  18. colliejohn don't forget about the gundogx fans as well.............
  19. he'll do you proud but you gotta let them run around him and teach him not too bit...............it don't matter if they bite him(so long as he backs away) they won't kill him
  20. i'm not slagging off bullx's ones that are bred to work are good dogs but there is definately a fashion thing going on and non workers must be being bred.......and when the fad dies down the true dogmen will still have and be breeding good bull x's! but they won't be the most common dog advertised as they are now!!
  21. yeah saluki grey with the majority on the saluki
  22. i think what was meant by fox king was that on average less bull x 's will jack on foxes........i think there are the genuine dogmen who just love dogs and getting out there every night and there are people who like dogs who go out once a week or once a month.........these are the people i think who hear on the grapevine that bullx's take fox and don't want to put work in entering they just want kills so they follow the fashion and ther will always be people who will breed for the demand of a type rather than working ability............i see the wheatonx's being the next fashion trend!!! b
  23. i introduced my dog at 8months he hadn't seen a ferret i just showed him like ziggy said but then i put the dog in sit stay and let the ferrets play in the garden he just sits and watches then i let him sniff them when he's ready if he snapped he gets told no, he trys to pin them down............i let the ferrets nip him but he's not allowed to do anything back just i ncase i'm working two or 3 and one slips past me and gets him i know he's safe with being bitten
  24. if your taking any animal they can do you for poaching!
  25. I'm with tomo run him from heel but have a collar on just in case Shot a fox the but only got a spine shot and it was moving at a rate but its back legs were down didn't want it to go off injured so in went my dog on the first fox he'd seen. he got bit on the collar and the fox let go quick then got his nose but i doubt it would of let go of his neck without collar!! So always with a collar The other thing is if he tried to go under a fence he'd get cut in half, so its up and over where a collar is not a prob
