  1. my boy took naturally to it just brings things the whole time.........saying this he not like a gundog that will just retrieve a tennis ball time and time again he gets bored but with game he'll do it over and over but so i never practice with real game..............i tune him up with little sessions of a favourite toy retrieving but a skin covered dummy is amazing he'll do it as many times as i like but i try to keep it short and sweet just incase!!!! with a tennis ball i don't always take it from him sometimes i let him off again with it etc but when game is involved he knows the score c
  2. I got a pointer x grey !st cross and i love him(of course) he is heavy boned but has great feet he is quick though......give him a fair slip and he'll get rabbits no probs..........went out the last night before his operation and he had 5 rabbits from 6 slips.......... Gundog crosses i've seen are very quick learners and once you've got them working for you pick up tjings very quickly and just want to please I have only done 1 week lamping with my dog but i took him out with a few other pups and 1 very well trained dog who doesn't get put on a slip, they just whistle him on........
  3. my dog weighe 70 odd pound and it was box shaped then it would be no probs lifting it over but then he wouldn't run very well...........it might be easy to lift a 19" whippet over with 1 arm but dogs need to jump my dog can and jumped gates but he did one and as he went over he saw some cows(he don't like cows much but thats another story) so panicced and his back legs went through the top and second bar and he was hanging there......a couple of precautionary days rest and right as rain.........he's a bit shy of them now but he WILL be doing them again!!! plenty of praise and encouragem
  4. therefore a saluki grey whippet cross would make a good cross..........cabable of all quarry agile, light and plenty of leg length.......keep the pastoral/terrier breeds % low and make nice gutsy quick agile dogs...............
  5. thats the sort of cross i'd like as a second dog and so would my mate as his first mad moustouche if they were older i think my mate would have one
  6. if your lamping with 2 people stick together!! Splitting up at night will mean someone could be in danger of getting shots and even the most experienced make mistakes or accidents happen!!! When i lamp i do shotgun off the front of the landy(in the wheel) or if we are .22ing them and i'm picking up i insist the rifle is in the vehicle unless i'm touching it at some point!! Have rule and when someone pulls the trigger make sure your together.......if they can't stick by the rules you set don't go out............you'll have more fun if your not dead!!! The only time i split up is wh
  7. just thought i';d say..............i found it hard not to get carried away
  8. i'd say now shes doing it keep it to a minimum!! she knows she can do it and you don't want to wreck her joints or put her off!! just do enough to keep it fresh, it'll come back good when shes a year or so and her joints are hardening up
  9. put the work in and any dog will make you proud......mines no world beater but he tries his hardest and catches some but he's a f**king good mate.............it may not be the best dog you ever own but you'll learn alot and have alot of fun cos thats what the dogs are about............don't worry what he can and can't do just have fun.............you never know he may turn out to be the best dog you ever owned but you won't know that till you have owned your last Good Luck with him keep us all updated

I've got a21/2 year old jill whos in season and shes in with my 2 new ferrets a jill and a hob both born about may time............she has very recently just developed a small bald patch on her back ....it doesn't look sore and she doesn't mind me touching it.....what is it?? 12. do you use jayes fluid?????i had a similar problem years ago when i used jayes fluid in the dog pen, they were always knocking nails off,i only use it once a week now no he's a house dog althought the guy who had him before me might of done but that was over 3 months ago. His nails are really short!!! how long should they be! his are about 10-12mm
  13. Is there any diet supplements that can be used to stop this hapening as my dog has great feet but his nails peel quit easily?? wondered if hes missing something from his diet
  14. it is said that buzzards are only carrion eaters and thats what the RSPB say to stop keepers persecuting them but the people who work in that environment see things others don't.....i have seen a buzzard take a full grown cock pheasant...tried to film it on my phone but was shit(i also saw a carrion crow take a healthy full grown dove off the side of the cott like a bird of prey with a wrestler style bodyslam lol but thats by the by) There are now more buzzards than kestrels and kestrels are at saturation point. which says there are a shit load of buzzards. So if hare are the only foo
  15. i'd be careful with the tug of war i have used it and it turned a soft mouthed dog quite hard and then once they get used to squeezing it bruises meat they expect it to be tugged.............didn't do it much or hard just once or twice but its hard to undo once they start and it just got worse when things wriggled ie pheasant runner and rabbit
  16. don't praise her till she does it right but do not punish her either............run away like a child and she'll play and get down to her level keep your arms down and let her come to you, when she does pat her, praise her, go right over the top, scratch her tummy whatever she likes but don't try to take the toy/game. when shes ready gently hold it and ask her to drop it etc.....praise again then throw it.........repeat whole performance at the end of the session when she retreives it let her praise her loads and let her carry it for a while at heel. then take it gently....................over
  17. cheers again.........i feel i should add that it was the two cockersa that had come onto ground which he thought was his land and theyv'e been going there longer...........it was my bosses house!!! so male on male on male.....just territorial but his nuts are coming off anyway as he has a retained testicle. by the by but before this any dog that went for him and hes met some baduns he's run screaming..........good advice though cheers. i had thought it might not predict anything but at least hes turning into a man from a boy
  18. Just a few things that i would like years of experience to help with but as i'm relatively new i'm calling to anyone who knows?!?!? 1. My dog has always been a bit of a wimp when it comes to shock/pain, hes hung himself of a barbwire fence by the legs and not wimpered but when a football hit him he screamed like a banshee, but yesterday he had a fight with two cockers and was well in there never heard a squeak and they were going hard but he was coming out on top. They all got a damn good telling off but does this show any clue as to his foxing ability? so long as i enter him right do
  19. This is my lad first season coming up!!! can't wait!! Be doing shooting, picking up, beating, ferreting, all lamp quarry and everything else we do!! Plus a bit of deer tracking!! Pointer x never seen one run before so should be fun
  20. but if people only breed minshaw to minshaw then surely this would be lost?? Is it important?
  21. Where does hybrid vigour fit into this??
  22. do we realy need a bounty?? All you need to ask is how many people have traplines throughout all there permission and heavily cull squirrels?? Not many i'm sure! but if there was a bounty then its worth putting in the extra work needed to actually control the numbers rather than kill a few. I hate them with a passion and last year i spent a fair bit of my spare time killing them, yes with a gun but primarily trapping and poisoning them but only on a small amount of land in the grand scheme of things......last year i shot 113 squirrels that i picked up and put down enough poison in
  23. LOL LOL LOL,red filter, green filter, sky blue pink filter. Get out there in the season dark still nights forget about your realtree your filters your new digital sound electric portable caller and try and learn to walk quietly, stop fidgeting ,giggling and learn a bit of field craft use hedges etc as a back ground to cut out your siloette, dont run a couple of rabbits or a hare through boredom and then expect to call that fox across the same field he might be looking your way but he aint going to come and all your doing is educating them. Well des said it all running an 18 month old bullx bic

    BADGER CULL

Bring on a cull....theres badgers everywhere.........there just more illusive than most creatures!!! I see hundreds over the land i go on and there a pain.....................antis will never do any good!!! well i'd support them with cruelty like hanging dogs and cats for food or boiling alive but when it comes to organised culls they get in the way......... F*ck me that would be a game yorkie if it went to billy....lol....most dogs know and would back off pretty shrpish they ain't thick!!!
