  1. i'm not experienced enough to shed any light on the subject but if you've got quite a few hounds and breed from your own all the time wouldn't it help to stop your pack from being inbred etc ???
  2. do you think hes an anti?!?!?
  3. never heard of it either........good some good points to look at from but surely it'd just be a fast foxhound and bay when on the scent....good question though.....i'll be interested to see what the more experienced people say??!!??
  4. A Big Thank You to Marco for letting me get one of his two pointer/greyhounds.......He is everything i wanted and more and its only been 3 days!!! He is settling in great and just follows me round when i stop and sit down he just lays beside me!!! Great manners and a real pleasure to have about!!! He is very laid back but is learning new stuff every day.....its a whole different world for him being with me as i'm in the town and he now sleeps in a cage upstairs because of my two dogs and that was the simplest way.....although stairs are very scary and I'm not sure he'd ever been up a
  5. An old trick i picked up for when a dog has eaten something bad for them - is to get a syringe or something of the same effect(a bit of tube to blow down or something) fill it with mustard paste and put it down their throat it makes them vomit hard and will remove everything from their stomach.........might not work every time and don't take it as gospel but i've known it to remove socks and bad food etc from puppies stomachs Any one tried this or anything similar??
  6. Well said Midnight....I was thinking of trying that with my dog to get it used to coming back when the light goes off without the distraction of game! And I couldn't agree more with the praise aspect.....I hate it when people don't praise and just tell their dogs off!!!
  7. I agree with that last statement......i know people who make money from it as they don't have great jobs but produce good dogs and sell them....although saying that they probably wouldn't sell the best!!
  8. you say its your wifes dog - is it mainly hers and looking at her as her master (Collies can be a bit devoted to one person) get to know the dog away from hunting and training, just play ball or something in the park till she thinks the world of you then try reward based training, i've found that they may not even need treats as a good word from their master is praise enough particularly collies.....also try silly high pitch voices when praising as this means more to a dog than any word ever will
  9. careful using a trained gundog to think about rabbits cause if you see them on a shoot day then they'll take more of a liking to them rabbits
  10. there is actually a thread about scoobs breeding from a while back!!! i'll try and find it and bring it up for you mate
  11. i think they always say that about every dog to cover their arse!!! its what the world is coming too i believe!!! American 'sue the arse of everything'
  12. craking looking dog mate!!! a slightly more racy version of her is the sort of dog i'm after(looks wise) Lucky man...
  13. Read what you like into it........but i'm not so good at putting across what i'm thinking and when i say something people say its crap so i just pointing out what i was trying to say............as i'll probably never meet anyone off here i don't give a f**k whatever p[eople think!!!
  14. the german wire haired pointer is a very underestimated dog turk very game more game than people think they might be,also the german weimeraner again a very dominant strong willed canine,id like to see more of them being used but i doubt they will be,the bull cross is just consitently better and and made for the job..... the german wire haired pointer is a very underestimated dog turk very game more game than people think they might be,also the german weimeraner again a very dominant strong willed canine,id like to see more of them being used but i doubt they will be,the bull cross
  15. do you reckon it would be quick enough for the odd fox or roe?
  16. I still really like them............them GWP crosses definately for me!!!! Starting new job slowly as i leave college justt getting training at the moment and did several jobs where the dog could of tagged along as i walked round, trapping moles etc And are they? .....quick enough for all quarry.........but seeing as we don't get hare my way that doesn't matter...... Tiny tim...is that one of yours??? great looking dog!! How is it generally...as in training etc
  17. yeah perfectly summed up and thats what i want.........i do a bit of everything and i want my dog to do it with me!!! nice looking dog phil.........how old and what cross???
  18. cos i think for me they would just lack a little speed....and the pointer cross i know and another i met the other day had nice greyhound temprements........i think a half cross would be good for me as an allrounder
  19. why on the inside? if for security.....wire on the inside could be kicked off
  20. not the first dog of mine......had three of our own as a family, its just this will be MY first dog....of my own!!! lol We've brought up abt 15 puppies for hearing dogs all to the standard...obviously not all passed but that was due to their characters, with out sounding big headed they all passed the training side.....I was planning to have a gundog, probably a cocker but we have one in the family that i work but i think if it was with me all day all year i would resent it after a while as they are so single purpose.... i also spend evenings mooching about and don't shoot much myself apar
  21. As I will have the dog with me all day every day I should easily be able to keep on top of the training....I have owned a pointer cross before wasn't pointer/greyhound but I know what you mean with the headstrong as he was but we got there at abt 6months and was all ups from then on. This cross would suite me well as I am not so into coursing(as there aren't hares round me), so doesn't matter if its heavy boned, seeing as a pointer can run deer, as they use them in denmark for that purpose I have just got into stalking so the point aspect would be very helpful, pointer crosses are als
  22. I have decided that a pointer(any type so long as its working) cross greyhound is the dog that i want.......the only problem is it does not seem that there are many in the south, If anyone knows of anyone working them or has any connections I would grately appreciate there help in locating a puppy...even if there is only a planned litter as i have no contacts in the dog world from the north so am hoping on a prayer or an ad in a mag......Thanks for taking the time Rich
