Will Keeping A Dog Indoors Effect Its Working Ability??
bigbailey replied to rhysy28's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If you care enough for your dogs they should be allowed to sleep in warm safe environment, inside or out. To keep a dog outside with no warmth will only give you a dog that takes longer to heal and more susceptible to illness. Live in or out it isn't hard to give the dog warmth Its just lazy t#ats. -

I had a rabbit sitting next to my car in a busy car park in the middle of a town today, no grass/cover for miles

Yes its ok, as long as you have the landowners permission. Tell the copper to go and Google it lol......

I always find desensitising is the best route. Poster.. Take a couple of rabbits and torture the wee feckers snap their knees and make sure they scream their bollocks off, this way like a soldier you'll become less like a fairy and more like a man  If it makes me less of a man to respect the quarry I hunt then so be it. We can't all be Rambo like you. I can imagine your one of these blokes who's got to prove he is the alpha male ha don't make me laugh. Go puff your chest up to someone else.

I can't understand people on this site, the lad asked a perfectly normal question and for this he had a page of sh*t reply's. Why not educate lurcherman instead. I find that a person who thinks about his quarry is more likely to despatch the animal as quickly and humanely as possible as time goes on. Like someone has already stated, at least you have respect for the quarry you are hunting. If you think like some lads "give as much thought of the game they kill as the everyday person does purchasing packaged meat from Tesco. You will get used to it and the more you learn the eas

Yes you are correct this is what does happen in a stop end which is natural part of ferreting, which the rabbit can then be dug down to and humanely despatched. Plus the rabbit does have a chance to get around the ferret and give it the slip. In this situation they have been captured and caused suffering just for there viewing pleasure/Fun. That's not what the ferreting game is about.

Makes you wonder what other sick things they get up to? Certainly some sick people in this game. No respect for things living. Nothing should be tortured for pleasure.

and quite the opposite is true aswell, a dog that deals with cats is a real asset to have around the land we hunt as the farmers are tortured by ferrals especially where chickens and ducks are concerned Isn't this where having control over the dog comes into play? My bitch will sleep next to a cat in the house and ignore the neighbours cat in the garden but would kill a feral if I told her to. I'm breaking my pup to cats. Last thing I want is it tearing off down the street when I open the boot because it thinks a local Moggy is fair game. Good advice that....... Hell of a lot of

I ran a courier business before the recession, You need to get your own contracts to bring a liveable wage home. Forget the likes of dhl and the other large parcel companies you will have to do a hell of a lot of drops just to scrape by. Work out your running costs fuel, Services, tyres, wear and tear on the van, insurance, goods in transit insurance, breakdown cover and then you can tally up what you need to charge to make a living. I had to work every hour god sent to make the same wage I gave up on a standard 37 hr week. Just remember you need to make your living wages plus save

I have done a fair bit of ferreting with pure bedlingtons and pure whippets and can't see that crossing the two ads much to the future generation which improves its working ability as a ferreting dog. Yes you may look at the bedlington works cover slightly better. But I certainly would not want to put any more terrier into my whippets. If you have a good working strain of whippet they should be game little dogs anyway. Crossing the two certainly doesn't improve speed, intelligence or gameness. And as for coat I have seen coats on some bedlington xs in the past to be paper thin. I t

I have found the dogs to struggle with the red filter on, I always end up reverting back to standard lamp. Might just be mine though...........

I can vouch for night hunter he's a good bloke. His pups are strong and healthy. His stud dog throws good healthy pups! :-) hope this helps. Plus his dogs have seen the work.
