  1. First one seen yesterday. Filling some feeders in a field of small Christmas trees and it popped up in front of me as I filled the last one. 1st November 09:30am
  2. You need to have been clean for at least 5 years. Not necessarily so, It depends on the offence, Between 3 months and three years custodial you are banned for five years. Over three years custodial then you are banned for life. All other offences however serious or minor are considered when you apply. You'll never know unless you put pen to paper. Just be honest and declare absolutely everything.
  3. Why the Pajero and not the Shogun Rake? The Shoguns seem to be a little newer on the whole from 95 onwards it seems.
  4. I've seen a few people mention with various 4x4s that they over heat because the radiators are filled with water when it should be coolant. Worth checking out.
  5. None seen as yet, we've only shot twice and the ground has never been good for Woodcock. Few weeks time should give us an indication whether they are about, mind you we are quite far south. Best shots at Woodcock I find and enjoy the most are when it's a bit windy and a Woodcock will fly through the line, saluted by every gun, only with it to fly on unscathed. It deserves to get away for being a truly wild and wily sporting bird.
  6. Folks, I'm still looking around for a 4x4 and I've clocked a Discovery with decent mileage, good price and in good condition, Is there much to worry about with these wagons, any serious reliability issues? I know it will be fairly heavy on fuel but other than that, anything to look out for? Cheers SS
  7. Few tips here; http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/252601-frequently-asked-questions-scenarios/
  8. That you do Mal and a pair of waders for when you get off I would never see my 4x4 again if I drove it through one particular field that feels like a thin layer of grass floating on top of a lake... Must be a Welsh borders thing
  9. Drove a Vitara yesterday strangely enough through what is best described as a bog, didn't do too badly at all.
  10. Recoil is another benefit. The .25-06 does have considerable recoil without a moderator. With one fitted, as Charlie says, it may let you get that second shot back on target quicker, should you need it.
  11. Had a look at a few Terranos today. Worth considering.
  12. Thanks for the info folks I'm a little torn between them. I've driven the Shogun and the Isuzu and they were fine for what I wanted. Just good to hear some reliability stories and things.
  13. Hopefully I can't really go wrong with either then...decisions!
  14. That's gonna be out of my budget for my workhorse Socks, but thanks for letting me know
  15. That's good to know Stu, I'm not looking for anything fancy for a great deal of road use, Just for the shoot and towing the boat in the summer and autumn.
  16. I'm still considering getting a 4x4 for work around the place and I wouldn't mind some opinions on a few of them if any of you have first hand experience of them. I don't really mind what it is, big or small, so long as its a workhorse for the usual shooting/keepering related jobs. I have narrowed it down to three that I've been told are fairly bomb proof, 1. Mitsubishi Pajero/Shogun 2.8 2. Isuzu Trooper 3.1 3. Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.0 Any opinions folks? SS
  17. Quite a few out there to choose from, Go and have a browse around a decent gun shop and see what takes you're fancy,.
  18. I would suggest buying a few different brands of what is available to you locally. Every rifle is different, even if its same make and model and each will like particular ammunition more than others. Worth trying a box of each and the stuff it doesn't like quite so much can just be used for practice. I use Winchester subs in my T Bolt.
  19. Legally, it meets the requirements. I do think you will struggle with it there when the FEO comes to inspect it however, Is there nowhere else for it to go? Back of a wardrobe in the bedroom, cupboard under the stairs etc? I would say even the attic is better than there.
  20. What have they offered you in the letter? Usually it's either court or a £60 fine and three points. Have they given you an awareness course option too? I seem to recall they're £+
  21. To have the triggers switch over would mean the blade of the trigger inside the action would be a different shape and set either further forward or back depending on which trigger. The sear levers are always together so that should do it. If you know anyone good with fine metal work it would probably be a really easy job. Otherwise it's a gunsmith's role. Have a look inside the action of the gun with the trigger plate removed so you can see what I mean, only if you're confident enough to put it back together that is
  22. www.mandp.co.uk I know has a lot of accessories.
  23. Given some of the terrain, I'm surprised you get as many as you do. I'm yet to get out properly since the nights have gone darker, must get that sorted soon.
  24. Just the two then Don't have restrict yourself to a bolt and a semi specifically, but if you buy two bolts, they will probably ask for proof of good reason to have two rifles, effectively exactly the same. It's not impossible, but needs a bit of thought.
