Is your .222 open or closed? TBH if your got an open certificate or have had a .222 for a period of time where you have proven your competence, i would suggest that you dont need either.. The common sense department would realise that you can't safely use a .222 anywhere where you cannot safely use a .243. But each depatment has there own guidelines.. If you feel you are competant, ask to discuss it?? If you hand on heart cant say that you are, then mentoring or DSC would be worth the while. That should open the debate...

In my own opinion, the best off road, is a short wheel base Defender. But given that the majority of users will never test it to one half of its capeability, it leaves you with many other viable options. Most of the stuff mentioned on this thread will be a good compromise. The two things you cant compromise on are tyres and ground clearance. If you ground out..you aint going forward, if you loose grip..you aint going forward. The other things toconsider on the real tough stuff are departure and approach angles, where the shorter vehicle with the least overhang will always be better. I

I think whatever the commitment,it is important to honour it. I went to a business gateway meeting arranged for 12 persons last thursday... I was the only show... I have had invitees not turn up to ferreting, shooting sessions etc..Thats there last invite as far as i'm concerned. You commit...you go..end of. Or make arrangement to explain your absence, in plenty of time.
