  1. Agree with this regarding deliberate crosses between wild polecats and ferrets. you often see people trying to flog ferrets stating they are 'wild polecats' or first crosses. IMO these do not offer anything to hunting more then a bog standard ferret other then the novelty of having a wild one. Any you just increase your chances of getting bitten owning one let alone trying to get hold of one post work. atb
  2. real polecats are the wild versions of ferrets. people refer to normal ferrets as polecats on the basis of colourings although most ferrets will have some loads of different genes in them and will make kits of various colours. All ferrets will have real polecat back in their ancestry at some point. albino ferts are just the white ones with red eyes. like you get albino humans or anything. hope this helps
  3. Woah!?!? that would do the trick.
  4. seems to work OK http://www.foxcalluk.co.uk/ atb
  5. I have not heard of this before but that doesn't mean much really. I can't see why this would be the case but it sounds like there are lots of old wives tales like these. Its funny how these things spread though as I know that I have told people not to feed them salt in the past and they have probably taken that as gospel as well. I was thinking about sardines yarn that i originally posted about in the context in which it was supposed to have happened. (this was around the time of WW2 in occupied france.) Although back then rabbits as a food source were much more valuable then they ar
  6. I used to use accupel(spelling) or field target trophy in mine

    Site ???

got the same thing a few times.
  8. I wouldn't eat them mate. they eat some right rubbish, likely to taste awfull or possibly even be toxic depending on what they have eaten recently. arb
  9. I would get your ferret back mate, while theres still one to have. atb
  10. i too use salt blocks with my horses and ferrets i think the danger of a salt overdose is with hidden salt, IE you don't taste it. i don't think its common never heard of anyone with a ferret that had this. i could see how the fish thing would work because the smell/taste of fish would over power the salt. small amounts wont do any harm in fact i think if they didn't have any natural salt in there diet they would suffer cramps much the same as we do. i am interested to see if there is any truth behind the sardine story ? if it didn't kill them it might fill them up so they go
  11. Years ago when the shooting times was a good read, the editor Tim Sedgewick [Tower Bird]wrote some good articles on rabbiting,i remember one where he recounted a vicar telling him ,never give a ferret anything with butter on it , as the salt would kill it, this was about 1965, idont know if its true or not ,but he believed it to be ,so that was good enough for me cheers for that, have looked it up but don't seem to find much written on it thanks again
  12. Hi all, As a kid I was told that ferrets were not able to handle eating salt and that even a small amount would cause the ferret to die almost instantly, was told that (in the old days) gamekeepers would sometimes put salted sardenes down rabbit holes in order the effectively poison poachers ferrets. I appreiciate that salt will not be good for any animals but I have not seen any information since that would suggest that salt has a particularly bad effect on ferrets. Has anybody else heard anything similar to this or was the old timer who told me this just chatting rubbish? atb
  13. Yep, i have been watching porn and don't want the MR to find out 'cos he will only hassle me even more than he already does!!!!!!! smart protector pro 15 day free trial will do the trick
  14. can download something like crap cleaner or smart protector pro. they will strip out mst of your history. If you want to really hide what your up to try using google chrome which stops any temporary files from being put on your PC in the first place alternitively stop going on naughty sites. lol
  15. Alot of people do keep them together no worries. My hob is a bit of a pain amnd won't leave the jills alone season or not so I have had to keep him seperate. atb
  16. boys names are a knightmare to come up with everytime we came up with one we liked we would look up the meaning and chnage our minds. try looking on http://www.statistics.gov.uk/specials/babiesnames_boys.asp and for meanings http://www.behindthename.com/ good luck and congrats
  17. no harm if you did shoot them for fun! its not like they are in short supply and there is a limit to how many rabbits you can eat. atb
  18. I take it you won't be getting them stuffed then?lol
  19. I have always killed them all in the past but you make an interesting point regards keeping them alive for immunity to build up. I would have thought though that even if you do kill all the ones you see there would still be plenty of the virus around on the rabbits that you don't see to help with immunity but am not totally sure how this works.
  20. I kill everyone I find, as prolonged suffering over days until death isn't real nice... That is my whole point Ian. People are too quick to presume that the rabbits will die. In many cases, they recover, and are then carrying some immunity to the disease. all you will do by running them over is spread it more How will running them over spread it more? Myxamatosis is a virus spread by fleas (mosquitos originally), and physical spread is very difficult. I think he meant it as a joke mate. as in spread it splat! atb
  21. I don't think they will chnage it back. I don't think that it comes out that much more expensive in most instances, unless you loads shed loads of water atb
  22. Sorry to here that this has happened mate, not seen this before but my hob can't be left with the jills as he just won't leave them alone (season or not) am gonna have to get him castrated instead of just snipped or one of them will end up dead sooner or later. Suppose like someone else says its donw to individuals and some clamer, more aggressive, hornier or more psychotic then others
  23. as stated by others have found them much less consistant then subs. They do seem to push the point of zero back a few yards eg if zeroed at 60yards becomes just over . My main problem with them is the noise they make which is far too much for the small amount of increased range and power you get out of them. If you are gonna shoot foxes with them at close range i would have thought the better option is the more consistant groupings of the subs in 22rf but as stated best to stick to bigger calibers atb
  24. I can't wait to be able to start taking my kids, may try ferreting with my eldest boy next season. He will be 2 1/2 atb
  25. Agree, if ferrets were more expensive then people may be more likely to look after them all through the year rather then turning them loose, killing them or whaterver when the season fhinishes, come into season. Its not as if they are much hassle or cost to feed (even if you go and buy proper ferret food biscuits stuff) That said I won't be charging for any of my kits this year as people simply won't pay for them (or at least won't pay their true value). And if I am not convinced that any people interested will provide a 'good home' they will not be going anywhere. atb
