    Agreed, the cash some folk throw at s hobby is mental. Maybe im just tight. I desperately need a new bog standard hawke type scope, but even prising £200 out of my fist is proving tricky!! , 3 weeks now of window shopping!! Hate spending it.

    Haha I actually didn't mean you Tim. Political/social differences aside, purely from a countryside point of view I tend to agree with lot of what you say. You live & work the countryside & shoot for right reasons aka not a townie that just wants to kill as much as possible. But I'm saying no names, my new year resolution of being nice is already on thin ice!!

    Been bit mad last fortnight, only 12 left to go. Never wanna jinx it but so far been a good year in terms of lambing ease & mothering up ( been a few years in the making though, culling hard to rid poor maternal ewes). Even the pedigree Texels are doing well so far. Hope the sheep gods don't read this and curse my optimism!

    Far too many here, cull in Derbyshire, and I think Leicestershire but not in Notts. Bloody pity.

    I'm guessing it's the 70-80yd ones that the hmr is coming into it's own though over the .22

    They are very popular. But lots of breeds are good for meat (terminal breeds). I wouldn't call them jack of all trades, because they aren't that good(!) Like anything, you have to make compromise. There are breeds that are easier lambing but never get as well muscled. Breeds that grow quicker, breeds that grow slower. I think texel are so popular because they tick lots of boxes without being perfect in any one box - if that makes sense? I also think they have benefited from very good, Pro active society.     It's crows i got them for but not enough grunt to regular drop them at 170yds off bike. I'm tempted by hornet in 17 for the job

    I've gone opposite- I've had 2 hmr's now & sold both. Can't see me getting another, think I was expecting too much from it.
