  1. We dropped back on to my local farm to carry on where we left off the other day, the temperature was much warmer than the previous morning when we were on a partridge shoot on there. I had a word with the adjoining farm keeper while on the shoot and he said it was ok to do the boundry hedge bordering both farms, an oportunity not to be missed. We had my oldest son with us this time, he has never been ferreting before and only just moved out into the sticks just up the road from me so an experience for him. Its hard to imagine whats involved when you have never been but he seemed to get the gr
  2. It's a good life mate, feel sorry for those who just work, sit in front of the telly and go to the pub.
  3. I have my moments, I am 3 times UK match record holder and current Browning Pole Masters Champion. Fishing is a big part of my life, I have a fishing bait company but work is very slow at this time of year and it gives me more time for country sports. I have 2 websites http://miraclebaits.webs.com (fishing) and http://ukcountrysports.webs.com (hunting) and just trying to build these up as they are pretty new. Any advice and new members welcome.
  4. F*ck fishing at the moment, too cold, they dont bite well and when fishing matches its all about drawing a good peg at this time of year rather than good fishing. I will give them some soon though, well when it warms up a bit, I dont take prisoners when match fishing.

  6. I manufacture fishing baits (Miracle Baits) http://miraclebaits.webs.com not much call for this stuff at this time of the year so I make the most of my spare time, can you blame me?
  7. My mate ProTom1 asked if we could drop onto some of his permission to sort a few rabbits out for him, well it would be rude to refuse! We arranged to meet up with him by the first field we would be doing, this was at the side of RAF Waddington where the AWACS are based. We started off with a grueler, the rabbits just refused to bolt and the first kill was registered at 5 foot, thats ok but the ground was compacted and bulit up with hardcore on the runway side. Well it had to be done and it was a long dig and really slowed the start to the day, ah well these things happen I suppose. The rest
  8. this is whats happening to mine... bugs bunny, soon to be 'alla cacciatora'!! Get a bit of ginger, garlic and a dash of lemon or orange juice on it mate and cook slowly until it drops of the bone. Enjoy ATB Steve

  14. We had a young lad off the site came down for a bash with us today, adammubu just 16 years old but keen as mustard. With him living in Sheffield it was an early start but I promised him some action and thats what he got. Adam joined our crew for the day, Stevo and Byron and myself and we went just a couple of fields from where I live, plenty of bunnies for the apprentice. He had never been out ferreting like this before and never killed a rabbit but everyone has to learn and he did really well, he grafted hard with us. We started off in a little spinney that held a few sets that were reasonab
  15. Yes mate rabbits are still classed as vermin and using dogs totally legal, the copper may have been a anti by the sounds of it, you did the right thing though keeping your cool and being polite. Saves any hassle and your landowner having any too, they wouldn't be too happy about it I'm sure.
  16. We had 4 out of 11 carrying young yesterday, the seasons getting shorter and shorter. They must be mating when there's a foot of snow on the ground. Its getting like that more and more they breed all year round in the right locations, we had some half grown ones the other day so when were they born?
  17. You are spot on there pal, Yes mate got you, I am the same the game shoots limit the land at present but not long to go now, the dogs are the unrewarded ones at this game, cant wait till stevo's tilly is back she makes life so easy, good dogs are the key at this game. Sorry if I am going on just been out for a few beers with my mate who came down from Sheffield, miss them all loads. Your not wrong there Steve.....a marking Dog is a MUST no matter what breed it is unless you want to waste countless hours Netting up and Ferreting un-occupied warrens Seen it on a few posts on

  20. Handsome is a word that I would use scarcely, well worn and dog eared springs to mind! No matter what mate we can sort them bunnies out can't we, got some more land to look at tomorrow, its supposed to be heaving with them.
  21. We have had mixy for about three years on and off, there are still a few marked up that survived and the odd one thats blind but the foxes usually finish these off. It pays to thin the rabbits out this helps prevent mixy as it seems the more about the easier they get it. Fingers crossed eh!
  22. There was a bit, the early sets were just a foot or foot and half easy digging in sandy soil, the later sets were 4, 4and a half deep they were a bit tricky.
  23. Its not bad around here I must admit, thats why I moved here from sheffield, shooting, ferreting, fishing, and peacefull surroundings.
