  1. Hope thing work out for you mate, its never straight forward is it.
  2. Not bad mate, it was a great day we just cant get enough of it.
  3. Stevo, Steve, Byron and guest Barry popped down today so we could go and check out some permission I just aquired, its just 5 minutes from where I live so not to early start for me (I'll give it a miss Ray) gave it another miss again today . The main area for rabbits is a hedgerow of hawthorn and a couple of dykes, it was obvious when the farmer took me round last week that there were plenty to go at. When we pulled off the road onto the grass verge on the field we saw plenty of activity and some seemed unconcerned that we were even there, this is strange as they get blasted regular from the f
  4. I'm afraid i wouldn't be able to invite you steve as your a murdering barbaric hare shooter............. Oooh that was personal....what do you shoot? clay pigeons? So many hypocrites about, an animal is an animal, shoot it, hunt it with dogs, snare it, poison it whatever you do. How many wild boar do you see in the wild? FFS steve have you forgot who was on your side all the way.....that post was clearly a joke, sorry you missed that... I appologise for that mate, jumped in without thinking, I know that you have been supporting me cheers , I just getting sick of some of th

  6. just dont mention HARES, if you shoot any.
  7. Only if its worrying livestock. or game not so sure about that mate, could be wrong though, maybe someone can clear it up Or running all over crops turfing it up,basically as soon as they or there dog stray from the foot path there in the wrong I have asked the question on the rimfire, centrefire and shotguns section lads ,have a look, you can,t just shoot the dog if its off the lead or kicking up turf only if the dog is worrying livestock as I said before or worrying game in enclosed spaces The dog must be worrying livestock for the farmer to shoot it, its th
  8. I'm sure he meant he had done before the close season.........
  9. It seems harsh to lurcher lads to see this amount of hares shot, but it has to be done regardless of what anyone says. Farms cannot sustain this amount of hares and as the only LEGAL way of control is shooting that is what happens. In this quantity hares ARE vermin and without control the farm crops would be devastated, if dogs were legally allowed to course hares then I would imagine they would be having coursing days, not over a couple of days but months. I am not saying that there would be as many caught but you never know, would that still be cruel? some say that dogs should be allowed to
  10. Come on guys lets not all fall out on here, lets just agree to disagree on certain things and move on eh!

  13. Well its got to be done either way, you cant have around 3000 hares eating all the crops it would decimate them and if this was rabbits no one would bat an eyelid. I live in the countryside and its an area thats teaming with them, I can understand those who dont see many with the thought that its the same all over, its not trust me. If the hares/rabbits/pigeons were left unchecked all over the result would be much higher prices in the supermarkets. If people had to pay £10 for a packet of cornflakes it would soon change some peoples thoughts. Shooting is the only LEGAL way to control them in n
  14. Thats what its all about, farm management I guess some of the guys dont see this amount of hares about and that makes it rub the wrong way. I know its not everyones cup of tea but that could be said about shooting/dogs/hawks/ferrets and fishing. I had no intention to upset or offend anyone if I have I appologise.
  15. Pity its not like the old days, nothing finer than seeing a good dog on a few hares, I used to love those days.
  16. I drove past a couple of these fields where we shot after I finished pigeon shooting in the afternoon, and I counted 19 on the roadside verge in less than 300 yards so they are still plentyfull. There are still a few hare shoots left, and these will be full days so the numbers will probably exceed 300, it wont make a difference to next years shoots. and yes they are all wild not reared.
  17. Not for round here mate, that was only 4 drives/half a day
  18. Nothing finer than using dogs on hares but it's illegal now, I have done my rounds I can tell you, but if these were left unchecked they would destroy all the crops, can you imagine what 3000 hares could do to a farm?

  22. Ebay mate some cheep ones on there.
  23. Great if he is half as good as Tilly it will be awesome.
  24. 6 rabbits in half an hour.......and you seem disappointed......you are too well spoilt . Always enjoy reading your reports, you must be the envy of so many of us with all the good ferreting land you have permission for. A wee question for you steve, do you mainly hunt will jills or hobs or is it a combination of the two. We use jills in the deep sets usually so the rabbits can drag them and hopefully get free and bolt, if we get a stubborn one that backs up and the rabbit cant get free or the jill is just getting dragged all over we will put a hob in to hold and nail the rabbit for a
  25. Have a word with the farmer, if he wants the rabbits cleared he may clear them for you. A gamekeeper on one of my permissions cleared about 200 yards of it for me to get to the rabbits we had a good old time then I can tell you. Otherwise get in there with a spade and thrash the f*ck out of it like we do, as long as you can net the holes ok and they will purse up you are laughing. Its hard work you will be sore for weeks but you will love it. Is it anything like this, we did this a couple of weeks ago and had 50 from it, worth the effort or what?
