  1. 11 lbs in 2 1/2 hours! christ!
  2. Pekin Ducks are great! VERY tasty, and worth rearing as they are fast to fatten. I reared my male Muscoveys for the table and they are outa this world for flavour! Your idea about the smallest duck being the female is probably correct, and yes, you shouldn't have too many drakes. I had one female sh*gged to death because of too high a ratio There is a test to find out which one is laying, but it involves gently putting your finger in a certain place to see if its nicley slack and moist Obviously, the males wont be, but laying females are. Yeah, Muscoveys have that red skin on their
  3. lol poor rooster! I have three but luckily they are a bit away from the house so they aren't too loud. I did have my hens free ranging everywhere, but the bladdy fox started taking them all hours of the day, and knocked out a quater of my stock in one month Instead now, they have a huge garden and a small copse all fenced off to themselves, I've never measured how big it is but I know it cost a freeking fortune in decent 6ft chicken wire and stakes. Didn't stop the fox having one of my turkeys though somehow, and its still a mystery to this day, the fox managed to pull the turkeys wing
  4. Hi Blue, I do, Lavendar Muscoveys, and all I can say is, the best results i had was just leaving them to thier own devices. They are funny things, and get easily unsettled. I had one of the duck dissapearing under the chicken shed, and would occasionally see her out and about... I finally got a bit worried and thought I ought to stop up the gap, and literally the next morning she came out to greet me with 11! ducklings! I was gobsmacked. After that, I then tried keeping one of the other females that when to sit on some dummy eggs, and got some different Silver Appleyard duck eggs from a ma
  5. Blimmin eck, tight arse
  6. lol Bet the wife would make more of a racket than the wee dog
  7. Tee hee hee @ Barrymore That little egg must have been from a pullet... I get them too when they first start to lay, that is very dinky though, I bet there wasn't a proper yolk in it either? They usually have a mess inside. The hen it came from was a Light Sussex or a Plymouth Rock, I have French Marrans too, but I know thier eggs, and that deff wasn't from them. It actually had a seam around the middle and looked like a "cut and shut" egg! It didn't have a pointier end either, they were both fat as! I weighed an average size egg and it was 61 grammes, so the biggun was almost t
  8. Exactly what I was getting at Luke!
  9. Its a bit hard to tell how high off the floor the rub is, about a foot roughly?.... somethings been having a good ole scratch though.... squirrel damage i've seen is more in one area than all round like that.... dunno... do dear start to rub thier antlers at this time of year?
  10. OOh harsh The pup is probably a tad bored???? Pups after all like to play, try giving some stimulating "toys" (and no, I dont mean a fluffy wuffy stuffed bunny) The pup is probably ready to start having its training stepped up a gear, any stimulated, well exercised dog will sleep and relax when it has the chance!! Not rocket science!!
  11. Well after spending stupid money fox proof fencing an entire garden and part of some woods for my poultry, I seriously wondered if it was worth it for a few fresh eggs.... but look at the size of this mother! It weighs 109 grammes - gotta be record breaker...(not literally )

    Facebook.

fun? whats fun? Oh cummon, help em out a bit here guys! I use facebook, but not ALL the time, or for adding stoopid applications. I've caught up with a select few old friends from school, that otherwise, I would never have known still existed, and a dear friend who I worked with on my first Hunt yard on Bodmin Moor. I lost contact with her over 10 years ago and its amazing to catch up! Also, I used to have a pen pal when I was about 11, who I never met, and I found her on there too!. So I guess its great to answer a few of those questions like.... "I wonder what so & so is doing

  16. Oooh ok, I've been deliberating wether or not to reply to this, but here goes. As far as I can see situations like this happen because of alot of factors. The one thats screaming out in my head is why the hell are kids being allowed to look after kids A 16 year old (lets face it - kid), looking after not just young children, but a baby too. The first thing anyone wants to do is lay blame naturally, and It makes me feel sick to the pit of my stomach whats happened, but jesus christ what is this country coming to. Any breed of dog with a certain trait has a right to a life IN THE RIGHT
  17. Well.... I'm trying not to get excited at the moment, but so far, he's not done it since having a chunk of pineapple in his food either! Pretty amazing result if stays that way, and totaly harmless too! If things do revert...(I'm going to give it a few days first).... then I'll try one of the other methods suggested. Thanks people you're all great!
  18. I agree with you, the most photogenic of dogs, faces full of character Gorgeous pictures! Still makes my heart race now! I used to ride a horse called Chief that I'm sure grew by 6 inches when he heard the hunt horn calling.... fantastic.
  19. Thank's CV, might bind him up a bit too??? I'll have a look out for them at the local pet store.
  20. Wow thanks guys, there's some great tip's there! I'm trying the pineapple one first, because I have some to hand, then if that fails I'll look for the alternative's for sure.
  21. Urchin, Thanks for that, it seems that pineapple will be on the menu tomorrow for sure... its a beastly subject I know  but its even worse having a pup doing that in the house and kids that wanna play with him. I'll look into the Vit B thing if the pineapple doesn't work.
  22. hi mate here is an old secret but dont tell anybody ha ha because nobody will be reading this anyway in your dogs feed put a small piece of pineapple out of a tin you know the ones that have 4 rings of pineapple put a small piece in each time you feed your dogand it wont eat its shit again. now remember dont tell anybody regards steve uk. Sounds interesting! worth a try I guess ... something to do with the acid in the pineapple maybe..... If It works I'll be for ever greatfull! I'm quite partial to a chunk or two myself actually lol
  23. Hi Blue, He's deff not underfed, he's on Autarky puppy food 3 times a day, which I guess should have all the required vits & mins? He's got an amazing shine on his coat, healthy gums and clear eyes.... so I recon at a glance he's ok. I've got his second vac's coming up next week, so I'll ask the vet then. I know lots of dogs that'll eat different animals sh*t, sheep, horse and rabbit etc..... but not thier own.... What a conversation hey
