Some of the genuine hunting kids on here that I've come across are better behaved than alot of "adults" Lets not slate em hey. I only joined a month ago, and I love the site. I paid a fiver because it'd be a bloody shame to think someone was out of pocket running this for the good of everyone else - and personaly, some people I've spoken to for advice etc already is worth a shed load more than a fiver to me! I would go out and buy a hunting mag for upwards of £3.50 and only be interested in half of it...... £5'er - unlimited contacts - advice - friends - need I say more? Take t

Yeah, I heard one - the old fashioned milk crates that holds the bottles, were a cows nest!!! On a different level though, we were sitting in our local's beer garden last summer with the kids, watching about 3 rabbits in the field below, bold as brass. As we turned to discuss the possibility of shinning the lamp over there one windy evening ... My little lad, 5 at the time went into fits of laughter, and loudly exclaimed "LOOK, that rabbits scratching the other ones bum!!" lol, upon which everyone turned round to see two rabbits having a bita bunny luvin we laughed for days bout that

Hi Bob, try buying this book, its fantastic - my other half has been a butcher all his life, and even he wont get his nose out of this. He says its really comprehensive but also easy to understand. Not sure if its a beginners book, but if you have a fair idea about meat, its worth a try! Here's the link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0393058298

Looking keen there

I think its trying to educate aswell though Fishfish, saying that you dont just have to get one meal out of a chicken, and to use the carcass etc. The cheap chickens make it easy for them to be sorta disposable, ie: pick off the best bits and bin the rest. And I'm not sure he wants to kill an industry, possibly trying to get it to evolve? If the masses wanted to buy only free range, then the chicken farmer would have cause to change its methods to suit. Only problem is the super markets will still screw them down for every penny they can, and still make it a barely viable business. ASDA's

Excellent news Gunner

Exactly And not only that, the majority of farmers rely on subsidies to even scratch a living - If they didn't have that they'd not be able to make it pay

First of all blue, where are you planning to keep the pig? Really it needs a shelter in the form of a pig arc or hutch of some descriprion. Pigs loose heat easily, and one way to have a pig not "doing" is by them using thier energy in keeping warm. As for confirmation, the back is important, especially in a fast growing breed like the landrace, but a long back is good, for the carcass side of things as you have more of the desirable meat (loins) Anything crossed with a landrace should be on the rangey side Having a cross is great as they tend to be stronger and less prone to diseases. CM you're right about that - I know first hand that butchers buy from larger wholesalers - Small butchers just dont have the buying power to be able to get thier meat in the quantities that they require, at an afordable price. I'm not say that ALL butchers do, with ALL thier stock, but look at it like this, for arguments sake, say he bought in a side of beef - There is obviously going to be the less favourable cuts that dont sell as well, so whats he going to do, just keep selling the 2/3rd's of more popular cuts, and just keep stock piling the 1/3 thats left? I think not. Even the small butch

i was afraid you might mention the plucking lol thats the one thing i probably dread most... oh what a mess!! but i can be thorough when i want to be..... so, if you dont wring their neck, how would you go about killing one? i thought you'd do them like a chicken lol edit to add not aware of any laws here... we're off the beaten path and i cant imagine any authorities beating our door down over this lol Main thing is to dip the ducks after they've been bled, first in hot, Very hot, water ( i use an old boiler like they use at fete's for tea n coffees) Then straight into cold w

Hi Jasper, I could well be helping bigbulls out with this bird tomorrow, probably couldn't get the Ultrapet tip very easily - You talking Artificial Insemination gear? (I have my qualif's with Genus, but no bladdy equipment!) Would a lamb stomach tube do? Very soft and flexible, but maybe too thick? Also, how many ml's would you say and how frequently?... sorry for all the questions but much obliged for the help. With ref to his weight, he seems a tad on the thin side

LOL @ Molly, cheeky Let me know if I was right!! Blimey Blue, sounds like you've been through a few stock! The problem with keeping such a mixed lot of poultry together comes in the form of Blackhead over here, dont know if you get it so bad with your climate though! Here's a link to read http://www.vetstoria.co.uk/templates/poult...familyfarm.html Chucks n ducks go well together, I have both and have no preference really, though the ducks have more character! If you are preparing a bird for the table dont wring its neck literally LOL I'm not sure how the law goes for slaughtering po

That bill qote of 750 squid is disgusting! I recon the office of fair trading could be bought in on that????? If the wound was fairly superficial, as long as its been properly cleaned, stitching is quite easy to do. You can buy a stitching kit quite easily, and even get the needles and syringes you need + lignocain and adreanaline (local anaesthetic) from an agricultural merchants. I went to Agric college and learnt an awful lot, including surgical procedures, so I'm not phased by much, but I wouldn't advise just anyone to have a go. My vets are expensive but thats ridiculous. Always b
