  1. I'm saying that the majority of the people posting on this thread haven't seen a wild boar in the UK, yet they seem to know what dogs and tactics are required. There's many that seem to think a pair of bull X's will kill a mature boar. It depends where you are hunting in Sussex, too much forestry land and you'll be on a hiding to nothing. On some of the big fields on the tops you can get a decent run as you can on the open ground near the Kent marshes. Although if it's too open there's not a lot to slow them up or cause them to turn. Using the roads to stalk into position is a good tactic
  2. Yeah, I am! This lot giving out all the advice and tactics are too busy arguing about who's the toughest to do any hunting and even if they did stumble across a boar they wouldn't have a clue what to do. Watching a DVD of bushpigs or feral hogs isn't the same thing.
  3. There's a lot of confusion between feral hogs/hybrids and genuine boar. There's also a lot of confusion with regards to a dog catching one and a dog killing one, two very different things. In France we hunted boar with a pack of fox terriers. They run the pig, hold it at bay and then the pig is shot. When a sounder of boars run, it's every pig for themselves. A couple of decent dogs will probably pick of young pigs or pregnant sows but don't be under the misapprehension that you won't need to get involved and administer the coup de grace. I don't care how much weight you say you can lift in yo
  4. feck me calm down... ok just my take on them,,, i was awear they were difrent sizes,, hence my ignorance in thinking it was a difinate breed,, acept my apologies No problem mate, I'll try and dig put some photos of my hunting trips with them, these were Grandes.
  5. From what my mate, Jesus, tells me (that's his real name), it's common, but it isn't regarded as a fault. Different country, different methods of hunting, I suppose. They are fantastic dogs but too noisy for me.
  6. And Tommo, Podengos are a breed, not a term used to describe various breeds. They are just different sizes, like Schnauzers, Poodles, Griffon's etc. I thought you'd know that, you were an expert on them for 2 seconds!
  7. They may have been well bred but they may have been poorly entered. I don't think it's acceptable for a dog to open up. There's plenty of people running whippets and whippet crosses that don't have problems with opening up. They can do it more than other breeds, if allowed to get frustrated or made to work too hard on their first runs. I've never had a collie crossed dog that yapped and neither have any of my pals. It'd be interesting for the collie cross owners on here to let me know if their dogs do it. I think a lot of it is to do with this current trend of trying to enter a dog at a li
  8. The yappers that I've seen always seem to be too busy making noise to strike properly.

  10. Galgos are prone to opening up, that's why they aren't used. Anyone that's genuinely seen them working would know that.
  11. CZ or Howa mate, reasonable prices. If you want a secondhand one, try East Grinstead guns, you can have a deal and they've got a few out the back.
  12. Spot on Whin. It took me a little while to decipher the post, but once I did I wholeheartedly agreed.
  13. Cor mister! You sound really tough! I just wanted to ask, should I bother giving my dogs water because there's loads of puddles about at the moment? I'm going to grab a shovel on the way home................just in case my dog starts to show any signs of the cold when we're out in the snow. I can use the shovel to bury him after. Thanks for the advice, you are a true geezer.
  14. Even if the Tories got into power on their own they'll never repeal the ban. It's a big can of worms they'll never open.
  15. At the last Waterloo Cup the antis were kettled in Heras fencing. A couple of hares were opened up and tossed in with them. I was there. The ban was put in force mainly because of the fox and deer hunts with hounds NOT lurchers. Silly Joe Public didn't even know a lot about hare coursing. The lurcher/longdog has had a better reputation than that for a far few years down South.
  16. No, our lurchers are lurchers and our longdogs are longdogs!!
  17. I use the Gamebore and they work well, rabbits out to 35 yards, foxes out to 25 and pigeons past 40. Try them, they are excellent through my Mossberg.
  18. Hedz31, I'm not who you think I am but I stand by what I said. I never said a dog won't quit if it's hard. Even my nan knows that's bollocks. You said your dog was a Wanker and jacked. I had to ask you numerous times even to get an age, which you never answered. When you gave more info you said the dog was too hard and then started down that line. I was just saying that you'd given up on the dog. Which you had. I ain't up for digging you out, I've already said that I don't have you marked down as a div. I wouldn't kill a dog for jacking, I don't give up that easy, my current pup is 8 mo
  19. Am not sure robert ye sound really familiar alram bells are ringing do a few lads from ireland know ye are back in the uk am sure they want to see ye No, you're right, it's me Bobby!! I don't see the boys from Ireland anymore. In fact I don't see anyone from that scene, I like women now and I've turned my back on all that. Are you still involved? I didn't expect to see you on this sort of dogging site!
  20. Am not sure robert ye sound really familiar alram bells are ringing do a few lads from ireland know ye are back in the uk am sure they want to see ye Search for me on Google, you'll see I'm on a few hunting forums. The boys in Ireland love me, I know when to keep my mouth shut!
  21. My last patt bitch was from Nuttall lines, from the gamekeeper Edinbrough way. She was way too small, game but tiny, I didn't kill her though, I used her on rats and squirrels and she dusted a couple of mink with the Lakie. I don't know who you think I am but you're wrong. I've got some White Hackles that are from Nuttall stock, they're a different story.
  22. I know plenty of dogs too hard for their own good and I am sure loads of people on here do too Its not that easy for lads who are fussy about their line to find a decent outcross........good dogs dont grow on trees. When I lived in Ireland we worked hard dogs to all ground game, plenty got smashed to pieces for being too hard, but those hard dogs didn't become jackers. If she's lost interest it's down to how she was worked, once again a fault with the owner! Thats utter bollox and ye know it And you killing a dog for jacking even though she was game is bollocks. Did you
  23. But if she's so hard, she'd be straight in, not backing off. Listen for the record I don't think hedz31 is an idiot and I think he knows his stuff. I think his dogs are probably good workers too, anyone breeding a line will get shit now and then. My main point is, there's people on here who are posting about what dog to get or about their first lurcher and then 6 months later the dog is up for sale and they are after a new cross, These people are usually experts at the game by then. They are getting rid of dogs because of their own failings and blaming it on the dog.
