He's fine off of the lead. The piglet is new and I wasn't 100% as to how they'd be with each other. I walk through the donkeys paddock with the shotgun and leave him off of his lead but when I've got him sitting by them I leave his lead on. This is mainly for his own safety as the donkeys and the Shetland that shares the field have chased him across the field once before. If they start and he's on the lead I can pull him close to me and clump the equine feckers on the nose.

During my walk at the weekend I took the oppurtunity to check that the puppy was still behaving when in the company of domesticated animals......... He was more interested in competing for food than bothering the Old Spot piglet. The donkeys held no interest for him, although he keeps one eye on them as they aren't as well behaved with him!!!

Once they start to open up, they don't stop. I don't know of anyone who's cured a dog of it, (although I daresay there'll be someone on here who's mates, brothers, friends dog stopped with the use of a pair of maraccas). When they're doing it, they seem too busy yapping to strike. Whippet and whippet X's open up more than most, although any dog can do it.

He's good, he's 7 months. He's seen a couple of bunnies that I've shot with the rifle and retrieved them, albeit in a puppy way. He retrieved a bunny on Saturday night that we shot on the golf course and I let him follow the beam to grab it. He's picked up a flapping woodie that I catapulted out of the tree and not much more. I've had him around the geese, ducks and chickens and he's left them alone. He takes no notice of the donkeys, horse or goats so that's handy! I've had him out with the shotgun and it doesn't bother him. He's laid back about everything. I have noticed over the last week

Finally!! A dog that's been allowed to grow before it gets put to work. It's seemed like a competition on here with who can get the youngest dog working. She looks cracking.

The last dog I saw at your house was a Bichon Frise!! Are you going to run that??

It's there, although Photobucket has been messing about this morning

That hen looks like some of the chickens I used to keep. Just being nosey. I've only been there 3 times since we went. It should be jumping. We'll pick a night with a bit of wind as well. It's a shame that fox is no longer legal quarry because I saw 5 the last time I was there. Plus Munties, Roe and the usual group of Fallow.

Just had a proper look at the photo's, they are the b#ll#cks!!!!!! Who's chicken is that?

Nice work. I said to young Johnny on Monday that we need to have a wander over the golf course again soon. Let Tyla and WB know as well.

Is there a facility to fit a scope? Or could I retrofit a weaver rail? I'm thinking Gen 3 NV, to extract its true potential.

Everyone makes mistakes, I've been at it over 25 years and I've made plenty. The trick is to listen to other people, ignore the crap and take the good advice. I've never been an idiot for making mistakes but I've been an idiot for ignoring those that knew more than me about certain things. Xxx

Did you think this was some freak of nature just because it had big feet? I believe that sometimes there are localised colonies which have slightly different appearances to the norm. At a place I shoot in Riegate the rabbits all have short ears, about a third shorter than normal, they aren't a hybrid or abnormality, I think they are just from a closed gene pool and are line bred to have small ears.

Jesus!!! I don't post on here much because I'd end up getting into rows everyday!! Back in the day, we never had the internet. We had the Shooting News (now the Countrymans Weekly) there was a bit of banter between blokes but if you went out and did a bit, it didn't matter what you used, you were all in it together. I shoot airguns (12 ftlbs and FAC), rifles (rimfire and fullbore), shotguns, I've had a 1lb puntgun, I've had longdogs and terriers, ferrets, birds of prey (broads wings and accipiters), I've followed hounds, I bowhunt and I shoot a catapult better than most. I've done a b

In fairness to Tyla, that don't look like a hare to me. The rabbits in the background are small, starters, but that hare, hasn't got hare's legs or hare's ears and the head doesn't look much like a hare's. I know that photo's can be decieving but that's how it looks to me. Good shooting though, whatever it is!!

The 7 shots at the 1 rabbit is wrong. It was 8 and I had to change mag halfway through!! When it ran at me and got within 6 foot I did start to question myself!!!!! What John hasn't mentioned us the fact that he was standing and it was the first time he'd used my gun. It was a cracking shot. He did want to lie down but I managed to convince him not to. I said " Just f@cking shoot it!!" I like to offer encouragement, Tyla, are you up for it next week? Water Badgers coming. We can have a few runs on the ones Parker likes.

I was too busy stopping the Lakeland I had from mounting every other dog to worry about the camera. Plus I had to stop Water Badger from demolishing the cattle sheds to get to a rat!!

410 Mossberg Hushpower vs. .22 Air rifle
yeeharr replied to benbenukuk's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
In my experience the .410 has too short a range and the 12 gauge is too noisy. Get a 20 bore Mosberg Hushpower, you can bowl bunnies over at 40 yards, no problem. I used mine Saturday night and was whacking any that got up and bolted under the lamp. It is long though and with the moderator on isn't the best for pigeons, but with practice you can regularly hit flying targets. I use mine when lamping and pick up plenty that can't be got with an airgun or rimfire. -
Keep your range to 10 yards and then push it to 15 yards. 20 yards is doable but you can't hit and kill consistantley at airgun ranges. Sure people pull off shots at silly ranges but we're talking about hunting and grouping well. If you can hit the bottom of a coke can at a given range 8 times out of 10 then that's your hunting range. Even the best miss but you'll hit more game if you keep things close.

The Hunter's are a lot better than a Barnett. Don't get me wrong, I've got a few Barnett types and like them, but the power a hunter puts out is so much more than any Barnet. They take a different style to shoot but are just as accurate.
-
I've got a few. I use tubes, flatbands and square rubber. I use shop bought, metal type and natural forks. You can kill game up to hare size easily and with the right ammo and reduced range (under 10 yards) you can take fox sized targets. I shoot .44 lead ball for most hunting and also .38 steel ball for ferals and target shooting. I've always got 2 in the car and at least 1 in my bag or pocket.

They are dovetail mate.
-
i think he meant the rabbits head didnt you mate. cos if not u would be deleted from the site without warning!! Why?
-
Unfortunatley mate, a compromise means that we get shafted and some idiot who knows nothing about what we do dreams up more hoops for us to jump through. Which idiot said that it's OK to use terriers to ground when you are protecting game birds to be shot but not to protect a farmers sheep or poultry?
