  1. smashing russells fireman....... hope they are going well for yea Young dog is showing good signs so far, bolted a few and stuck to his task in a big place keeping the pressure on so his hearts in it so far and he don't mind a kiss and cuddle either, the bitch is around 10 months so just growing and will have a few ratting trips this summer and will be shown the ropes next season. One thing i will say about all the terriers from CH's terriers are there temprements are second to none, all mellow, quiet in kennels and seem to be happy where ever they are, very level headed terriers.
  2. Not knocking the line in any way but not all are winners under the turf, here's a dog from the breeding that just wouldn't push on.He was a good enough ratting dog but i got plummers for that,so he's now a pet. a days ratting we had 150 all dug to the dogs marks and he held his own that day and was not a year old then. but wasn't a earth dog.
  3. Be carefull what you wish for mate ,my luck may just be turning as well as i just managed to ring my two greenie chicks. One just squeezed on with a bit of spit and it does look like my chaffie hen has chose her nest site now, just praying the goldie eggs are full.
  4. It's getting on now this time of year and to be honest anything any good will be being used 99% of the time, but saying that things do happen to folks and they do get rid of good stuff mid season.I'd get some greenies towards the end of the year now as any youngsters will need to moult out and a few greenies fall fowl at this stage so better off waiting till the moults over, join one of the bird forums and there's so much more help than i can give you as i'm only a newbie at this game myself really.British Birds in Aviculture is a good one and there's many many good bird folk in your part of the
  5. Bird trader has some on it but it might mean travelling a bit to get some this time of year mate.
  6. Here's some pics of the greenie mules i bred last year,i used a lutino carrier normal cock and did get lucky with the clear/lutino mule so this year i thought i'd use his son who is coloured lutino with the same hen just on the off chance it's throw out a clear/lutino again but have had only one chick from them so far from around a dozen eggs and thats normal coloured.Anyway some pics. Last years pairing what they produced. Put the cock with a lutino coloured greenie hen and they produced this chick. The lutino greenie hen. the lutino chick again,as you can see
  7. Is that Lucy Topper and if so she sure don't take prisoners.does she?. Some young russells i have from the blood line.
  8. Border Lad,i started the other whin thread to get him off the Minshaw thread.I hadn't seen this thread or else i wouldn't have bothered, just bored of the same old same old that comes from his mouth and thought i'd give him a place to spout it.
  9. Yes they do Billybaltic,a good little method for trying over any rough ground or kelp/weed beds and you can also swap the weight for a partly filled bubble float and use it in shallow water or surf for a bass.
  10. Lutino greenie cock, red factor canary hen mate. Your doing well Francolin, very grand indeed mate .
  11. Every one i know has had a mare of a year with clear eggs, hens jumping nests or eggs and nests being ripped.Myself i've only had a greenie mule to sticks this year, everything else has ended up tits up in the end.My step sons birds are doing ok'ish but should be better than it so your doing ok really .
  12. Cracking well done clipper, best of luck with the other eggs mate.
  13. Got a step forward today(not counting my chickens as they say )i noticed my greenie hen off the nest a few times so one time i nipped in and saw at least 2 chicks, one dark and one light so a normal and lutino it seems and also saw my chaffie hen trying out a few different nest pans for size and a couple of irish chicks from a pair i have in my shed.Wonder if my luck has changed? .
  14. Like i say caught all sorts with that method and if i had just a quick few hours to fish in thats the way i'd fish sort of thing, every rock outside your cast zone is a new mark,Just carry some spare leads and extra traces then be mobile until you find a hot spot. One thing that is well handy is keep the frozen eels in a old flask and there'll keep fresh all day and use bait elastic to tie on the eel, your'll have a mare and a new eel every cast without it.
  15. Malt might be teaching you to suck eggs here but the best method i found when fishing for pollock in Pembrokeshire was fix a link swivel to the end of your line then make up a trace abot 18" long with a long shanked hook on it.i use to use thin wired hooks so they would bend out if i got snagged up,i then would bind a frozen sand eel on to the hook, put a 2 ounce bomb weight on the swivel then cast it over the tops of the kelp.Caught pollock up to 5-6 lb and countless of other sorts of fish as well, you can feel the kelp as you wind back in and it's just above it that i found to be the most suc
  16. Well i spent one night out with whin and saw enough to make it never happen again so it sure ain't "he knows his job" and the minshaw topic is about? hey guess what fecking Minshaws ,lamping dogs allways have been lads so what the feck has d slieght or trials in scotland got to do with it?.Just more crap from the man imo and many others think the same,so are we really all that wrong? .
  17. Just thought i'd start a thread for his utter b*ll*cks,he's been ruining a good thread with his d slieght, beardie x,fishing dog crap and even after a pm from myself asking which bit of f off and shut the f up didn't he understand. So whin black ditch water or what ever your calling yourself here's a nice new thread for you to go on with and tell your tales of great feats, but please leave the minshaw thread alone .
  18. Well done mate,i only got one chick left but it's doing ok and i'll try to get some pics up later of it.It sounds like your doing something right and the very best of luck with the rest of them,The irish hen i got that keeps leaving the chicks i saw get trod by 3 different cocks yesterday, they all sat in a row and took turns on her, first a goldie cock, then a siskin cock, then the lesser redpoll cock had sloppy 3rd's so who knows what eggs she'll lay but seeing as i got a red factor hen nest building as well i'll rob the irish's eggs and put them under the red factor hen. Will just add the 3 cock
  19. I'd like to see whin as backfill .
  20. Tried that Gnipper and she just sat them, didn't feed them just sat them.I had one of the chicks die yesterday but the other 2 are hanging in there but one is having to be a tad forced fed but all i can do is my best for them and the rest is up to the gods.
  21. Good news and lets hope the thieves are sleeping on the river bed tonight with a paving slab for a pillow.
  22. Very true mate and at times you wonder why,or i do anyway .The 3 chicks made it through the night so good there and i have had 2 quail chicks hatch but 2 dead ones and the hen has left the nest so that looks it for them, allways a step back after the one forward but hey ho upwards and onwards and got a wedding to go to today so it'll be funny to see folks faces if i have to feed these chicks through the service as there in a cage nest box around my neck and under my jumper for the day.
  23. Been away for week family hols in France and not the best time for a bird keeper to go away but couldn't worm out of it,went away with a redpoll on 5 eggs and a couple of canary hens on mule eggs.Came back to no redpoll nest, all smashed and pulled to bits ,but a nice goldie nest with 5 eggs and a lutino nest with 4 eggs and both hens sitting tight .Now the back step again, one canary jumped her nest and now i'm mum to 3 mule chicks and the other canary is sat on duff eggs.Birds eh don't they test you?.
  24. I'd just give him time mate,i have a goldie cock that don't sing to grand either at any time of year and it does sound like he needs a bit of peace and quiet for a bit.
  25. They'll be the cornish fat mans alter ego's watching Tomo.
