  1. Doing any course is an advantage, you always learn something, if not from the course, then from other students. If you are the solitary type, then it does good to mix with others now and again. Disease ID is probably the most important. As for having the qualification. There are lots of people who are highly qualified in certain fields. it just means they can pass exams. "Qualifications will help you get a job, but they won't help you keep it." That's where BullSh*t come in.
  2. What model Steyr is it? My SSG really liked Norma 180 grn factory loads. It's worth giving a 180grn head a try. It might suit your barrel.
  3. 'Posh shoots'! How posh? I don't see many O/Us on really posh shoots! Well, on beaters day perhaps.
  4. I had a lookup, and a 200grn 308 bullet still has over 1000 ftlbs of energy at 800 yrds. That's over ten times the muzzle energy of a .22 subsonic. Frightening or what?
  5. What's legality got to do with it? It's security I'm on about.
  6. 50% of young rooks are said to die in the first 6 weeks anyway. Reducing the overall number of rooks does less good than protecting individual crops from them. I don't think you would catch a rook in a larsen trap with eggs as bait, but I might be wrong.
  7. There's a bit more here: http://www.chuckhawks.com/slug_guns_kansas.htm
  8. At , I think I would have carried on. I've no Idea what people get out of it.

  10. Anybody know what user names he uses on other forums? There's one on PigeonWatch with similar trates, different area, though.
  11. Steyr SSG http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn21-e.htm Don't know where you are, but you are welcome to try mine if you have a range or zeroing ground anywhere near Dorset.
  12. Sounds like there are oversized and undersized rifled slugs http://www.chuckhawks.com/shotgun_slugs.htm
  13. I've seen something along the lines of "For Ball" stamped on barrels, but I reckon that was for spherical balls, perhaps like those in the pink Home Guard cartridges of WW2. I think the modern slugs may be made so that they will pass through any barrel even if choked.
  14. The Greener GP had a falling block action. The french Darne was more of a sliding breech action.
  15. Or he's that good at hod carrying that 4 months of it keeps him for the year. If he's that good a hod carrying, why give it up to mess about with deer. When I was walking a hod, I was earning more than an MP earned, and bought myself a farm while doing it.
  16. Have a look here http://www.attacc.com/acatalog/BRUSLETTO.html BRUSLETTO FALKEN GAME-HUNTER
  17. Supersonic! So it can't be quietened. Better with a subsonic .22rf.
  18. Was it a Sako or a Tikka? A few years ago they used a duff batch of stainless steel that someone said had come from the Russian Navy. A lot of the guns made with it had all sorts of blowups, usually breaches. They recalled the whole lot. Only very few came to the UK, by all accounts.
  19. Milking stools always have 3 legs, never 4. That way they are stable on any floor. I thought this forum was going to be an improvement over the kids on PigeonWatch and the arrogance on the Wildfowling forum. Seems like there's jumped up farts wherever you go. I'm on my 7th open ticket!
  20. I don't suppose many will remember the recommendations as to shotgun ranges for clean kills that were printed on the back of Gun Licenses. 35 yards for 12 Bore. 15 yards for .410.
  21. http://www.justcartridges.com/ have got Viri .410 listed in 4, 5, 6, 7.5 shot. 20 Gram load. You should check your barrel on a pattern plate. 4's seem a bit big to me unless you are getting a good even and tight pattern at ranges where smaller shot would have lost their energy. Then you have to be able to hit the target!
