Callout last night
Squirrel_Basher replied to Squirrel_Basher's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
.....................unsilenced ,NO -
Had the phone call last night from an unhappy farmer to ask if we could have a look round the organic sheds for a fox .Several chickens have been taken in the daylight and it now has to stop .We arrived at 9.33 pm and it was like daylight but from experience i know this matters not .A shine around revealed a fox running from one of the sheds with a chicken in its mouth no less .Caught in the act ,bang to rights .I knew if i shouted or squeaked it would be gone big time .My mate had brought a selection of calls from cubs in distress to hare screams .One by one i tried these but the fox was' nt

Just for the record -The doe was shot on my land with martin as a guest. The gloves were worn as a matter of good practice by myself .Deer carry diseases that we humans can pick up .Lymes disease being one of them .Having studied the link kindly provided ,i have to agree as what they are but ive not seen the like before . The only placenta ive seen has been the usual heavy veining .The lymph nodes were checked and were ok and im sure Martin has pics of these too . Anyone else come across this? .

The worst dig we ever had was 4 year ago at the bottem of a banking .Marked a hole that wed done many a time before but always had a bolt from .I remember it now like it was yesterday but until this thread started it was one of those times that get put to the back of your mind and blanked for the sake of your sanity The hole was what is known locally as a swallow hole ,it drains the surrounding fields and ditches in times of hard rain .Never gave it a thought that it may rain or even cloud over as it was a perfect clear, November day .Entered a terrier at 10.30 after netting the single hole

Well said mate .For a predominantly rabbitting dog then a hare at night is a worthy opponent .I prefer to shoot them however as my little bitch is too old. lol.

Many farmers around me will happily give out 200 cartridges for lads to shoot at pigeons ,providing you do them a propper service .I'm not into pigeon shooting enough for that but loads of lads do .Most of my stalking is done on the undertanding that i do the foxes too Its a hard life but ...........Never paid for nowt except a bottle or two at christmas .Once you get yourself a good name locally its usually the other way round with landowners contacting you to see if you want to control this or that ,at least thats what happens here .

Nice one foxy .You have a good partnership going there ,seeing as you cant shoot straight.lol.

Nice one mate .The old heras panels make good pens too .Keep it up . -
Bit of advice for those not sure . Get as much information about the fella before meeting anyone ,quizz him on the dogs ,breeding ,workstyle and anything else you think of .Antis arn't that well up on genuine facts and that is what you need to base an informed decision on .Be wary of those with no permission ,that want to work your ground with your dogs ,definate no no and no video footage whatsoever

suitable calibre for cat control
Squirrel_Basher replied to woz's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Whilst I absolutely agree, I am amazed to hear of such things from the keyboard of Foxdropper! Whilst i do try to set an example to the younger ,influential members i do have morals of my own and cats are definately vermin in my book and culling whenever and wherever the chance occurs is general practice mate. -

Can women be the same as men?
Squirrel_Basher replied to grewgirl's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
In my younger days ,ive been hunting with various females but i have to say this -It wasnt long before the sexual tension got the better and i always blew it with the blatant looks and suggestive comments Something very sexy about a women in a mans world to me or am i just a pervert .Nothing against women hunters at all ,just that sooner or later sex crops up and ruins it . Edited to say i once came across 2 females ferretting in a wood and after a chat i ended up with them all day but one was such a looker i had to decline the offer of a further day out as im married and well ,want to stay -
paul mc cartney in irish paper today against fishing
Squirrel_Basher replied to a topic in General Talk
From what i remember of McCartney ,he lost favour big time with a lot of animal rights groups by fencing his estate in Scotland and therefore not allowing the deer access to the lower gound in winter .Hundreds died but it was brushed over as disease .B.A.S.C need to revive the pics in response to the twats latest farce . -

any advice appreciated
Squirrel_Basher replied to towzer's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I have to echo that mate .Keep us informed though . -
My method is to shoot at a target at 25 yards first to make sure you hit the target .A few more shots to get it on at 25 yds ,then move back to the 100 .It will only take a couple more to get it up to zero from here as the left to right is spot on already .

suitable calibre for cat control
Squirrel_Basher replied to woz's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I know that the law is a bit shady regarding cats as to where and when they can be killed but as a rule of thumb ,if its in the wrong place and isnt wearing a collar and dosn'ts come up and rub your legs or purr softly when you coax it to you ,then in my book its nine lives have expired and should be dealt with .If it does come up to you and purr and rub your leg , then it makes for an easier shot Too many cats doing too much damage to all and sundry . -
suitable calibre for cat control
Squirrel_Basher replied to woz's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Cats are not hard to kill at close range and any 12ft/lb air rifle will do the job ,in the right hands but thats head shots only .My opinion extends to the fact that ANY cat in the wrong place is fair game for the rifle or dog ,fecking things. -
Whilst not disputing the fish scales ,those spines are not from a hedgehog as hedgehog spines are tubular and not flat ,though the colour is right ,brown, cream, brown .Otters are omnivores mind and it could be plant material .As to the location ,it fits with otter spraint .Definately not mink as every one ive seen has the characteristic twist to it and is made of equal parts fur and scale .Think you have an otter with a taste for pine needles mate .
