Not necessarily so mate .Farm near me never find one bushing or to ground but night time they are a definite .Near a housing estate so guess they are under sheds etc .Tried baiting on and near earths to encourage them to stay but no luck yet . l was out with Bicester hunt few seasons past and we drew a large shooting estate but found nothing ,no cold marks or even a murmur from hounds .We went back at night to the same place rabbiting with a .22 and saw 3 .They are great wanderers I know but it is frustrating when doing cover or checking earths to have blank after blank ,makes the finds

It’s unbelievable the amount we see on areas not bothered by them but still can’t find one to dig .The hunt moans about lack of foxes ,landowner moan about too many ,I’d just be happy to find one in a hole .The local keeper to me openly talks about his numbers shot and snared which used to fluctuate according to how much spring digging we did .We used to dig there in shooting close season but that’s stopped now .Fewer litters on the place impact hugely on his tally .New estate manager won’t have it .

The connection with badgers and foxes is real all right .We have had the cull for two years running here and I’ve never seen so many foxes about this year .Finding one to ground is another story though .Loads of empty earths but no one at home .No pads in or out .Very disheartening to tredge miles with f**k all to show for it .On the lamp however there are plenty .

Since Matt took on this plot , the roe have improved condition from scrawny thin specimens to more like we see in Wiltshire around me and the tick load has decreased drastically . The browse line however appears to be in keeping with large deer numbers the like of which I’ve seen with fallow . We were all made up Tony got his stag as he puts us both on a fair bit of shooting .Theres a story to the stag that Matt might elaborate on . Roll on next visit .

Whole new thread I know but I’ve never enjoyed bottle feeding pups and never really gelled with the two I did rear although they went on to make decent workers ,lost two more whilst attempting to feed the litter .I used lactol after a bitch dried up premature ,in fact she was a bad mother spending too much time away from them .Time consuming and don’t think I’d do it again . On the subject of ivermectin ,these days there no need to use it for whatever reason as there is a spot on for everything now and cheap enough off the web with a prescription from vet .

Good post mate and I’m going to answer each question to best of my ability .. 1)can i ask what was behind the reason you adding Stevens blood to your wheeler blooded family of dogs FD? My own stuff was very full on ,something I liked in my younger years but grew out of the older I got .I knew Stevens when he was at the Beaufort by me and also knew a lad he was very pally with that bred a litter Stevens wasn’t happy with from two dogs NS had gifted him ,political bollocks .They weren’t meant for hunt days if you know what I mean .He wanted the litter destroyed but I took on the whole
