  2. Hi I agree totally with you guys and I have done the same if im not happy taking the shot for what ever reason I don't take it, simple as that and we all know there is always another day yes I will be trying to get a different mentor. Rick
  3. Hi all was at bisley today on the 300 yard line with mark my 3 best groups were 1.645" 1.619" & 1.568" and I had a case separate on me as well today! Rick
  4. Hi all I will let you all know how he does when/if I get to go with him. Rick
  5. If he lets me come il see how he performs iv been shooting in the field since my early twenties and im 44 now and at a guess id say he was late twenties early thirties so unless he's been shooting in the field from the age of 8 iv been at it a whole lot longer and im not saying that automatically makes me better but I do know my way round the field Rick
  6. Hi I will keep you all informed if he shows me how good he is! and yes I will still be looking for someone more suitable to show me the correct way to stalk and walk me through it instead of trying to rush me in to it! Rick
  7. Hi all I had starting thinking the same! im not sure he is the ideal mentor, it took me ages to get him to let me come with him on his next stalk! but I will and il see just how good he actually is or isn't lol I am going to ask him to show me he can shoot 3 rounds in an inch off the sticks. Rick
  8. Hi hutchey that was exactly what I was trying to get over to him and he kept going on about deer management and doing a job so have to take the shot as quick as possible so as not to let the deer get away! I have never rushed a shot in 20+ years and proud of the fact I have never lost a wounded animal and im not about to start now, and I cant count the amount iv let go because of either an unsafe or unsure shot because they will always be there for another day :-) just checked the dsc1 accuracy and as I thought it says 3 shots in a 4" circle followed by a series of shots at a simulated deer t
  9. Hi all what is the usual accuracy test for a new shooter arriving at a new shoot? I ask because I asked a guy at my gun club if he could help me out and shoot with him and him being my mentor so he came up the club yesterday to see if I could shoot from a bi-pob shooting stick so I set rifle up with 2 rounds he said right hand side middle clay shoot now 10 seconds 9 8 7 6 I shot then he said left side bottom shoot now! is there really that much of a rush? all he kept banging on about was taking a quick shot and couldn't grasp me taking a bit longer than he wanted and when I said I wasn't happy
  10. 11. Hi it is not about the dreaded flat shooting and mega speed nonsense!! all I am trying to do is get a good load out to 1000 yards and to do so I will need to be hitting the 2900fps mark so I still have it supersonic at 1000 and as said I will crono them while im testing accuracy so I am not trying to get the fastest round just the one that is the most accurate I will let you all know how I get on. Rick
  12. Hi all does anyone know if compressing the powder is ok or not ok? Thanks Rick
  13. Hi all iv got more load testing to do this time im giving the Lapua 155gn scenars a try with elcho 17 they should be good out to the magic 1k at bisley on the 10th at the 300 mark. I would like to stretch it out further but our club doesn't go to bisley or east holme that often. Rick
  14. Hi Charlie thanks for the reply :-) for now I would be happy with them clearing it for me to use on land cleared for my 308 or higher, the ground I have in surrey was only cleared for my 22WMR as its only 46 acres and is as flat as a pancake so they had safety issues and wouldn't let me have anything bigger, I was sent an e-mail the other day which said ( I do hope you won't mind this "cold-call" message, but I gather from "TSG", with whom you've had contact on UK Varminting, that you might be in need of an alternative to a "mentoring" condition, to satisfy your firearms licensing department.
  15. Hi all I would like to get my 308 rifle opened up to use in the field for fox deer and boar, I already have an open licence on my 22rf but the land I have is no good for the 308 and when I spoke to my firearms they said I would have to have a mentor! so is there anyone in dorset or surrounding areas who would be able to help me out and let me come out with them to get the experience and be my mentor. I know its a lot to ask but I would appreciate your help with this, I have BASC insurance I also used to run my own pest control company some years back and am very good at trapping moles so if

  17. Thanks blackfox I usually use cci benchrest primers and so far no probs with them, I picked up 100 cci magnum primers from a guy at our club for £2.50 so thought id give them a try but thought I might ask people on here if they have any experience with them and what they thought. Thanks Rick
  18. Hi all what would be the difference in using magnum primers in my 308 loads as compared to standard primers? What do you all use in your 308 loads? is there any advantage in the magnum primers to warrant the extra cost? Thanks Rick
  19. yes you are right but they must be out of sight ie, cupboard or wardrobe ect arcpest
  20. Hi Decker i have fox on my .22WMR and my .22LR arcpest
  21. then what do you call a .416 barret You call it a .416 Barrett. In this case the .416 Barrett is the name of the round. .50 cal Barrett is not the name of the round. It is .50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun). SS Think I must have missed something here.... See ..even old dogs like me learn...NEVER heard of the .416 Barret round but there most certainly is a .5 Barrett round!!! https://www.barrettrifles.com/store/web/p-9...-80rd-case.aspx Thats still showing as a .50 BMG Deker? https://www.barrettrifles.com/store/web/p-9...-80rd-case.aspx
  22. Hi can anyone confirm if you can have an fac shotgun for pigeons as i have been led to believe that i could not get one for this purpose i could only get it for practical shotgun? arcpest
  23. I went to the range today to zero my .22WMR barrel in except not what i expected! i was hopeing that it would be nearly spot on at a 100m as my .22 is zeroed at 50m no such luck i had to move it 52 clicks down and 16 clicks to the right and that was with CCI Maxi Mag 40grn Hollow Points sak mods works well with the .22WMR only the crack can be heard il do some more testing next week as i ran out of light arcpest
  24. Unfortunately ammo is a bit of a problem ...the dealer I bought the gun from didn't have any and my normal ammo supplier didn't have any...years since I fired a WMR so I need to try and find some different makes to try myself.... if I can!! Take a look ....http://www.cci-ammunition.com/ballistics/rimfire.aspx..hit the "Detail" to give you some ballistic info!! Hornady do a 30grn balistic tip, remington do a 33grn balistic tip, so do cci if you find any i would be interested in where arcpest
  25. The 30g is a bit faster, but doesn't carry the energy anywhere near as well as the 40g! I would ALWAYS suggest you shoot in a new barrel.. I'm sure you will enjoy it, and the ammo still tends to be a "bit" cheaper than HMR!!! I will try and get some 40grn tomorrow and some balistic tips if i can just to see which are better iv been waiting weeks for it to come in and cant wait to get it out in the field i payed £17 100 for the federal arcpest
