  1. Nice idea paddy, if only it could happen. I've signed too, I hope some good comes of it. There is cases like this, of varying levels of cruelty starting to happen too often. These sadistic morons always choose horses in "out of the way" paddocks, and know that unless they are seen, or someone has a burst of conscience and talks, there is little chance of being caught.
  2. Good tip dwalin, but not too hot. About body heat only, and wrapped in a towel or the "old jumper" mentioned by poacher. I am disappointed by the number of people who post about barking whining puppies. Why are they not prepared for the new arrival? A pup who has after all, been on the earth only 8 to 10 weeks, and always slept with the warmth and company of it's litter mates, is left in a box in a shed or cold kitchen, and expected to be quiet and content. There has been no end of good advice given on here, and easy to access, but still the same questions keep coming. why dont you
  3. Had to have our ash tree pollarded as the top end was not good. One high up tit box was broken by falling wood. I removed and cleaned the lower box, and refitted it when the work was done. Had a peep in at the weekend and nothing! This box has produced year on year, loads of blue tits. Maybe the disturbance which included pulling off some ivy, will put the birds off nesting there for a while? Great shots magwich.
  4. Always best to check with the vet, in case there is an actual problem. A lot of dogs, particularly with what I call "deep set eyes", will have runny eyes anyway, without any other problem like entropian for instance. (ingrowing eyelashes). Our flatcoats all have some degree of runny eyes, and can make them run just by eating food too quickly! First job in a morning is to check and wipe eyes if necessary.
  5. Yes mate!! I did too! Found I was doing 37.5 MPH somewhere near Cambridge last monday. I was never less than 70 miles from there that day. Fell for it totally.

  7. Coz i fancy him Who is Will Farrel?? I am an old git who doesn't get out much you see. Kay, I preferred your red haired, smiley faced avatar to this bloke!
  8. Hello warm barrels, welcome to THL. Whatever your interest in shooting and country pursuits, you should find some good stuff on here.
  9. Pity you can't have the poor lad permanently, but good on you for what you do to make his sad life better. I can't stand people who mis treat animals. Mostly they are sad inadequates, who can only assert themselves against a dumb animal. What about, (if you knew someone looking to give a dog a home) "losing" him when you are out? There has to be a way to sort this situation out. Meanwhile, keep up the good work you are doing.
  10. They really are cute aren't they? Someone will no doubt post ,why didn't he shoot/course/ stew them etc shortly!! There was a similar litter of four where I work, parked not six feet from a footpath that goes to the car park, bike sheds and canteen. So hardly a quiet place! There must have been a hundred people visit them in the four days they were around. If I could fathom posting pics I would put some up. One of our industrial pro photographers, spent three nights hanging from a window until very late. To get a shot of the mother coming to them. Don't know what happened to them, maybe mum
  11. Well done for your efforts Jordan. People like you are describing should be banned from owning any animal. I have read your post twice, and cannot see if you now keep this dog or if you "borrow" him? If you haven't done so already, you should have a head to head with these prats, and offer to give him a home, as they seem tired of him etc. He will never get good condition while he gets mistreated, no matter what he eats, nerves and fear wear them down. Don't expect much as regards showing, he may not stand for a male judge to go over him, without plenty of "therapy". Friends are useful for gen
  12. Sounds as if you are doing things right. I use 5s and 6s (mostly 6s) for general pigeon or rabbit shooting. For clays I use Eley first fibre in 7.5 or 8, with the odd 6s if a running rabbit clay is on. They can be a bit hard to break. For anything a bit more distant or going away fast, I move up to Eley "Blues", again in 7.5 or 8, whatever is available.
  13. They will either use them, or most likely sell them on. Theft of tack and blankets from tack rooms and stables, which are unattended overnight is rife. Unfortunately, not everyone in the horse game is honest. Someone will buy a "cheap" rug or two without asking any questions.
  14. Thanks for those Gav. Also useful and free is MYTARGETS.com.
  15. Four rabbits is plenty for a big pie, and some for the dog! The main thing is, you had a nice day out with your dog and saw some good retrieves. Looks like good weather too. Keep up the good work mate.
  16. Thanks for that Kay. If I can get my head round that lot, my pictures should improve. I just leave the camera set to "auto" normally.
  17. Nice pics Kay. The dogs look really relaxed. Just got in from a walk myself, it's gone really cold again. Needed my gloves back on!
  18. Yes, put down it says. They must have tried for a good 10 minutes to rehabilitate her!!! Real professionals!!
  19. Its a point & shoot Cannon A470 I thought the numbers seemed familiar, so I just checked my point and shoot. It's a Cannon too, but a A530. Blimey Kay, if I were to read the manual, I might be able to take shots like you!!
  20. Well, as already said, nothing CZ make will let you down. If you are going out "in the field", any of their range will do, just have a look at a selection. If on the other hand, you are intending to stay on a range, then perhaps something like a more target orientated rifle is required. I am thinking thumb hole stocked Anschutz for instance. You can of course use any .22 on a range, but for competition use, I would prefer the heavier true target types.
  21. A sad story indeed PH. I think everyone has got through to you that this is not your fault. When I read your first post, I thought the dog had been knocked about, and being a man, this puts you at a disadvantage. He seemed ok with the "spaniel lady". Hope you get him back soon. If you get him, FFS don't give him back. Prepare for a period of never being off lead, even in the garden. Quiet voice and treats etc. Be careful how you do anything, even like picking up a newspaper, don't let him think you are about to strike with anything. A GSD we rescued some years ago, had a real panic when my w
  22. Site time is the same as the pc clock here. Is Guildford in another time zone to darkest Derbyshire?
  23. Nice shot there SS! He is a chunky beggar, full of fresh lamb!!
  24. Welcome to THL Helen. Lovely part of the country where you are.
  25. Exactly!! Just what is the point?? Far too powerful to be practical.
