  1. 410 for pigeon shooting??? Just wondering why you ask the question? I say, why not a .410 for pigeon? As long as you remember the slightly limited range and shot load a .410 is great for most things. In this case it's a young lad setting out on his field sports life, better to start with a gun he can handle than struggle to lift and swing dad's 12 bore.
  2. The wing did come off, but it was meant to, and as it's only a model with a big engine it flew ok. This has been posted on most of the aviation sites, and is actually an advertising video. They follow it up with an "interview" with the brave and skillful pilot, who is supposed to be one of the Red Bull racers. It's a good bit of video all the same, a well made fake.
  3. A lot of insurance companies are reducing benefits on policies. They will give you what you want, but charge more for everything. Check out the windscreen excess for instance, most are at least £75 now instead of £50, and some are charging if you have a chip repaired. You need to read your renewal schedule carefully, I nearly went without insurance on the trip to work last year!!
  4. They will do either willingly, but be aware you need a sense of humour to own one. They are not as consistantly reliable as a Lab, so if you are liable to get embarrassed/ annoyed instead of having a laugh when they mess about, stick to Labs.
  5. NO!!! Do not scrap them Dai. There are still old Landies turning up as "barn finds", and if these you have are at least complete, then someone will want them. If you don't want to restore them yourself, advertise in Land Rover Owner or similar magazines. There is a site called Landrover FAQ which should help you, although it's a bit (very) slow right now, as I have had a look.
  6. Many years ago my brother came home on leave from the RAF. He brought with him, amongst other things, a little box of chocolate coated grasshoppers!! I ate one, it was like a little kit-kat!!
  7. Sorry to hear about the grouping problems on some Lightnings. I have recommended them myself, since my mate bought a new-ish one. At 15 yards and using a rest while setting up, it was soon making 5p piece size groups consistently. It's a .177 and neither noise or recoil seemed out of the ordinary.
  8. Andrew Sachs has said that this was a case of two performers (and he should know) just getting carried away and being OTT. He is not looking to take matters further. Still, if they are sacked (well Brand has resigned already) we could have a year off the license fee!! Don't hold your breath for that though.

    Anyone Into

It would me too fireman. But it's never a fair fight and the bull is not 100% While at the bullring pens, they are fed a diet that makes them dehydrated and sluggish. The picadors pierce the lungs so they slowly drown in their own blood. Yes, a fit bull against a man with a cape and sword would be interesting, but as things stand I feel animal torture is what goes on. It's not for me.
  10. Our oldest flatcoat has always had a problem with her feet. When picking up or competing in a working test, she is always uncomfortable on thistle or nettle covered ground. We bathe her feet in salt water afterwards and give half a anti-histamine tablet like piriton. Some dogs don't react well to anti-histamines so see how they go. The Sudocrem recommended by other posters is very soothing, but needs applying when they are about to bed down for best results.
  11. Plenty of blacks on my permission. They are (I assume) the result of some escaped pet, joining and mating with the wild ones some years ago. The babies are very attractive, fur is like velvet.
  12. Actually, I think it's March when the changes occur. But, it's about the new 13 emission bands for cars regd since 2000. To the best of my knowledge from recent research, commercials are not included, so the £180 charge should remain. That doesn't mean that Darling won't jack it up a bit though! I hope I'm right, or there will be a lot of very unhappy pick up owners if the charges revert to emissions based rates. (would be about £415 for a Navara).
  13. Hello Dan, welcome to THL.
  14. Stupid?? I don't think so John, I thought from your first post that you were not experienced with training dogs. That is something that can be put right, and there is plenty of help about. If you can find a gun dog club handy for you, go there and see what goes on. Don't be impatient for success with a untrained four year old, she may not just progress as fast as a youngster will. You need to be crystal clear in your own mind, just what it is you are asking a dog to do. Then you guide it in the right direction, using voice and whistle, treats and bribery as needed. The retrieve should be the m
  15. Don't take this the wrong way JHTH, but I feel that if you have not trained your Lab by now, you probably don't know how to train to the gun? In your case it would be a good idea, to see if there is a branch of the United Retriever Club in your area. They hold training sessions for gundogs only, and will put you on the right track. Everything is covered from basic obedience, through dummy work to cold game.
  16. Robert, you will probably get some replies if you expand a little on why you are looking for folks in Swad!
  17. Nice one Jasper. After a bit of poking about, I found it's the payload which makes the Navara a commercial. As it can carry over 1000kg, that does it. The DVLA write down the payload by 45kg if you have a permanent "Truckman" type top fitted, but the Navara still is rated at just over 1000kg with a top. This probably applies to all the large pick-ups, but is probably something potential buyers should check up on. You may buy one and find that it gets taxed on emissions if the top takes the payload under 1000kg.
  18. A larger percentage of the Tory MP's are pro hunting, shooting etc, than the Labour ones. There would never though, be enough to obtain a majority vote for the return of hunting as it was.
  19. The two Wildebeest on the right look as if they are about to have a go at the Lion.
  20. Hello Steve, welcome to the site. You live in a grand part of the country.
  21. Lots of these medium sized waders look very similar. I'm going for a young Redshank.
  22. Other half says the white flowers are wood anemones.
  23. Well we would never let one of our pups go to someone who said something like,"I will walk it 5 miles a day"!! You CAN overdo walking with pups. All the nutrients are used up replacing energy instead of promoting growth. A mile is plenty of walking and only once a day, or every other day. Let them play in the garden and / or with other dogs, when they have had enough they will lie down for a rest. Leave them alone until they want to play again. Serious walking is not for pups.
  24. A frontal shot just below the neck, may well have resulted in hitting the bird's crop. If it had had a good day feeding, there would have been like a bag of grain and leaves to absorb the pellet's energy. It's only when cutting open the crop, that you really appreciate just how much damage a flock of woodies can do to a farmers peas/grain/rape or whatever.
  25. [quote name='antg' date='Sep 25 2008, 03:24 PM' post='681514 navara come under comercial and wont be affected. well thats what i thought anyway That appears to be right Antg. For road tax purposes, the Navara is classed as a LGV and is £180 per year to tax. I have done a fair old search on this and £180 comes up time and again. If it was emissions based, it would be the £400 rate like the Patrol etc. The only info to conflict with this was on a Bodytorque or something, road test. They said a 2008 model bought now, would would be £300 this year and £400 from next april. They we
