  1. This dog would take 150 + rabbits over a 3 night weekend in Stirling, during the 70's. A decent dog, but there are probably better dogs around who simply do not see the numbers we did then. Cheers.
  2. Before this thread develops into two camps, lets just say I doubt very much if any one on this site keeps their dog on a lead all summer or hunts their dog hard all summer !!! My point is there is no problem running a rabbit or two early morning, if you consider the going to hard, use your common sense and don't do it. My 12 m.o. lurcher will burst into full gallop and strike at crisp bags, pop cans, etc, when out for a walk, absolutly no difference to the short runs she has on rabbits. I was walking only 50 yds from my house this morning and my Doberman put up a roe in a place it had no right
  3. Exactly MATTI, I'm lucky enough to live in a place where I can excersise and work the dogs at the same time. Yesterday my pup chased a fox thru' a quarry, I was thinking "hurt feet", but she came back without a mark, we own Lurchers not Poodles. Cheers.
  4. I worry about the way people on this site slag others about running their dog's during the summer. My dogs are out every day at first light, summer or winter. At the moment they are working the oil seed and wheat and chasing whatever they can see in the cut hay feilds. We are home before it get's to hot and I don't worry to much how hard the ground is, if you know when it's too hard you won't run your dog's anyway !!! Do you guy's keep your dog's on the lead all summer? Or do you use common sense ? A guy from this site 'phoned me about a mornings mooch; my only caveat was; let's go before it g

I think I read the same article in a right wing blog, basically saying how can the Blairs £3.5 million house in London stand empty, (they couldn't find anybody who could afford the rent they were asking ). This was just rhetoric. I don't think this law will ever be passed as it came out of the Office of the Deputy, (dawg), Prime Minister, and he is so discreditted now, any thing associated with him will be ridiculed. Cheers.

If you own a t.v.set, you dont HAVE to have Sky, but you do HAVE to pay the tax, (lisence fee), for BBC, now that is GOVERNMENT theft. Cheers. Cragman, your'e missing the point. I sympathise with people in rural areas and young prople starting on the property ladder, but this proposed law affects everyone. My parents, in their 80s have lived in their house all their lives, it was a council house that they saved to buy and it would be the only thing they could leave to their family. But if we don't sell it within 6 months of their deaths the council can just put assylun seekers in it !!!

A little over simplefied, Molly; if I was to go abroad again, I could leave my house empty for as long as I liked, but if my aged parents were to die, and their heirs didn't sell or rent or otherwise occupy their house within six months, the council could put in homeless people, including assylum seekers. Theoretically you could remove them once a sale had been agreed, but what state would the house likely be in ? And remember that "possesion is 9/10s of the law" nonsense. Most lawers are allready forcasting court cases as to the legallity of this proposed new law. Only under Labour could anyt
  8. Pat Blewitt from this site has a genuine 1st x bed/grey, Flynn, from Heartbreak Fell kennels. A top class all rounder. I have a pup sired by Flynn, out of Gins Maegan , a deer/grey x whippet/grey, she's just turned 12 month and is everything I could have asked for. If you are looking for a stud dog, you couldn't go far wrong with Flynn. Cheers.
  9. Is it from the same litter he had in a trailer at the Hayden Hunt show last sunday ? How much ? Cheers.
  10. Being, (I assume), one of the older members, I can remember when a lad going out with his dogs and ferrets was an accepted member of the community. Blokes in the pup/club looked foward to buying a rabbit, hare, pheasant, bit of venison, whatever, on a saturday or sunday 'cause they knew it was cheap and fresh. Fast forward 40 years and we now are basically pariahs. The cagoul wearing, backpack carrying anti's will. if they are brave enough, verbally abuse you, or 'phone the police or RSPCA, if they think you are up to something. I have been ferretting on permission when approachrd by one of th
  11. Exactly my thinking , if we all throw the towel in, they have won. Cheers.
  12. This is exactly why we should be VERY careful what pics we post on these forums; not only are there members waiting to have a go, (sad, but true), there are also anti's just waiting to see pics of dogs with foxes or snared foxes, etc. If you must share your pics, p.m. or e-mail them to people you can trust. Don't give the b*****ds any amunition as they will twist the facts and truth. Cheers.
  13. There was an advert in the CMW a while back, for Ridgeback/Greyhounds. They said it was a repeat mating and the previous litter were taking all game. Anyone on here got one from either of these litters, or seen one work ? Cheers.
  14. I think you are totally missing the point, the view Stabs & i were trying to get across is the pic/dogs are not impressive in that situation especially if you have seen plenty of smaller or less dogs in Australia & NZ cope just as well holding to enable someone to get in flip & stick the boar I didn't mention IMPRESSIVE, I said it was not UNUSUAL; having 3 or more dogs holding a pig is a bit like the Americans using 3 dogs to course a jack rabbit, not IMPRESSIVE, but not UNUSUAL, I neither condone nor condem the practice, (with pigs), simply stating facts. Cheers.
  15. Hi Stabs, I don't see anything unusual in those photo's as far as pig hunting is concerned. In N.Z. I've seen anything from 1 to 6 dogs being used. A mate of mine is a proffesional hunter and uses 4 dogs, a mixture of bailers and holders. As long as the pig is dispached as soon as possible and the dogs haven't taken to much stick, I don't see a problem. Cheers. P.S. When are you off down under ? I may be in Melbourne at the end of the year.
  16. Depends what "type" of whippet you get; This one, Blue Prince, (Blue Boy X Zarwood), was a 21" 36lb race bred whippet. Back in the 60's he took rabbit, hare, roe, and won many handicaps and was runner up in the "British Open". A real allrounder. Cheers.
  17. I remember about 20 years back a spate of doberman/greyhounds..... what the fu*ck for? I've often wondered why the Doberman hasn't been used more in Lurcher breeding. After all, they have Greyhound and terrier in their make up, have brains and trainability, certainly faster than a Bull, a bite like an alligator and a decent size. Some of the best pig dogs in Australia are from a brood bitch that is Doberman/Staghound. My own Doberman has caught rabbits and foxes, marks holes better than a terrier when ferreting and bushes like a Spaniel. She was proffesionaly trained as a guard dog before I
  18. I don't think "Bert" from BoarDogs will mind me putting up this picture of Toa, an EBT/Greyhound, unfortunatly killed by a boar when he was around 10 y.o. Cheers.
  19. '60s; whippets and Lambrettas, '70s; lurchers and any old van I could afford, '80s; saluki and Range Rover. Cheers.
  20. It's absolutly true about the Muslim day at Alton Towers, supposed to help "intergration" !!! What about the Hindu's who rented a feild off a farmer only a couple of miles from me , yesterday ? Didn't tell him what for, then cremated an illegal immigrant on a pyre !!! Worst part is the Northumbrian police won't do any thing even though it was illegal ! They would soon arrest me for coursing a hare in the same feild!! Not just in the Mail; BBC news, Reuters, etc. Cheers.
  21. No, you can have "Manslaughter" or "Attempted Murder". As "Manslaughter" is deemed to be non- premeditated it can't , in law , be "Attempted". As far as shooting a dog is concerned, he has every right to, if they are worrying stock or damaging crops, although he sounds a right c**t, anyway. I had a dog shot many years ago by a gamekeeper. There was no stock near and the feild was ploughed. Me and my brother were charged with "Trespass in pursuit of game or coney" and GBH, 'cause we gave him a hiding. The case was thrown out of court and the'keeper was charged and found guilty of unlawfully kil

Me and Longdogrunner had a mooch around the Northumberland Fells, not far from where the Border and Coquetdale Coursing Club used to operate, plenty of rabbits, fox, deer, but didn't see one hare in over three hours wandering about. I couldn't believe it. Cheers.
  23. In New Zealand they come in all sizes and colours, the ginger one with the straight tail is a "Captain Cooker" and grow huge. Allthough they are feral pigs, after a few generations they revert to type and are every bit as dangerous as the European Wild Boar. These two were taken, (allong with many more !!), around the Tokaroa area in the nineties. Cheers.
  24. Foxlamper; what makes you think the dog is going to be a big 'un if it is only 22" @ 15 month ? It is probably fully grown now. Cheers.
