  1. Its not and we literally have to run on it almost every weekend we hunt here where we live. Not only is it hard on a dog its hard for them to get up on a coyote running on that shit cuz the coyotes seem to glide across it while the dogs struggle their asses off. This in turn makes the race even longer which fucks the dogs up even more. Nonetheless we have dogs that do it week after week.
  2. I have seen those coyote greyhounds on here I think someone posted a video with an old boy on in who kept them. To be honest there is plenty of good British stock around - just a case of finding the right ones. ATB S2HI guess some would say white tail deer but you aren't gonna find a handful of dogs that could take one regularly and that is illegal so not being bred for.legality aside, what makes them so hard to catch that only a handful of dogs can get them regularly?Speed and the ground they live on is wide open and rough as can be. Its just real tough to catch em is all. I'm not sayin all a

  4. sounds like a beast of a dog, for me I'm not after something that big if I'm honest anything 24 tts and above will do, but my preference is maybe 26/27" for an all rounder. Were hoping the deerhound blood might throw a broken coat and add some of that classic deerhound laid-back nature, as well as a nice large chest. I think deerhounds would do very well on coyotes over there they have a decent nose too for a running dog and are brave dogs. His littermate sister was my gyp and she stood 27 ats and weighed about pounds. I don't think the pure deerhounds would be any good at all on them. Y
  5. I like watchin them lil dogs do that stuff. Its all new to me so even more enjoyable than you folks that have seen it before. Thanks for posting the videos.
  6. My computer acted up but wanted to also say that I really like your thoughts on the cross you wanna make. I grew up with dogs like this if I haven't mentioned it before. Take care
  7. I hope ya keep this thread goin. I'm interested to see what ya find. Ive had my buddy's male dog that I bred at my place the last week just havin some fun with him. He is a stud to say the least. I don't know if I have a good picture of him these days or not but I will try and find a pic of him when he was a youngster. He stands bout 31 inch tall and weighs bout 100 plus. Monster but he can kinda run for a big dog.

To be honest there is plenty of good British stock around - just a case of finding the right ones. ATB S2H Good luck. Hope ya find what you are looking for. I'm sure there are some good British stock but its just easier to find over here I would think considering we can pretty much hunt 10x more often than people in your country. We don't have any laws stopping us and some of us live in wide open spaces with a lot of game and coyotes are pretty much the ultimate quarry when it c
  9. Its too bad yall cant get dogs from us. Id love to help you out with this project. My kinda dogs for sure except Id use one of our coyote greyhounds and are coyote hounds.
  10. What's your plan with that type of dog? I'm not against it at all. I'd just like to know what you are thinkin
  11. I got no clue. Most of the ones ya catch are still average size. This fella was just a hog. I hope to catch more like him but I know that's not a reality.
  12. Yes they are fast plus when ya dump on one they are not right in front of ya. Most of the time they are a ways away and you just hope for the best.
  13. Caught the biggest coyote we have ever caught Monday. He weighed 43 pounds and was all man.
  14. They wont be next to them. They have uses but you wont be catching a fox here where I live with a dog that doesn't have a load of sighthound blood in it. Hi Dan, how you keeping , you been doing much with your stags, you been getting many yotes ? All good. Yes I still keep running hounds and greyhounds. We still catch our fair share of game for sure.

  16. I'm looking to go to Romania next year hopefully, highs of 40c and lows of -20c, spring and autumn are pleasant temps . Do you have a limit on working temperatures you work the dogs in? If so what limits you, do the dogs have a certain amount of time on frozen ground? Is there a max temperature say25c? I try to not run them when its much over 50F. As far as the cold goes it don't really matter. My dogs run on frozen plow all winter long.
  17. I run mine down the creeks close to the water and mostly at night when its cooler. But here where I live it can be at night and 100% humidity so ya kinda gotta be careful. Coldest and hottest place on earth except maybe Iowa in my opinion. This state sux!
  18. If you hunt your dogs you best be breeding them young and often or you aren't gonna have any dogs left to hunt.
  19. That lil black and white dog impresses me. Of course I know nothing and am easily impressed by this stuff. Still cool though.
  20. This is the exact reason why I have preached and preached to folks over yalls way to use the coursing dogs as your "greyhound" blood. Catching them hares out in the wide open should show you all you need to know about a dogs speed and whether or not he or she runs to catch. No need for any of yall to ever use greyhound, deerhound, sazuki or any of that ever again for hunting dogs. Its just not necessary and actually rather foolish in my opinion.
  21. I have seen it way too many times to not know its true. My dad has preached to me for years to just keep breeding them good steady dogs to each other and sooner or later you will get another great one. Its all about time in this game and you need a lot of it cuz nothing comes free and nothing happens over night.
  22. This thread never gets old. The best dogs I have ever seen come out of good honest dogs. Years ago we tried breeding to the best of the best a few times. All we got was some good honest dogs and a couple of not so good. All the great dogs I ever seen just happen. Like the old saying goes. "Good dogs are where you find 'em."
  23. That's just the point. My dogs are off of "proven stock". I just don't know what percentage of anything that's in them nor do I care. If I was you I would take some of the better advice and just get a pup out of dogs that do EXACTLY what you want to do.
  24. This is probably the best suggestion in my opinion but if I have to go down the "what cross road" I'm gonna say a coursing x lamping dog. I have no idea what or why anybody would say deerhound or whippet or wheaten or bull. It just don't make sense to me. Edit to say this and I hope nobody gets all offended or thinks that I am cocky or arrogant but I truly believe I could bring any dog on my yard over to where yall live and they would perform like the original poster asked and I literally have no clue whatsoever what is in my dogs.
  25. I may be breeding mother to son in the future. I'm just not sure yet. I have done it in the past. I got one extremely spooky gyp pup in that litter. I'm talkin off the charts spooky like a coyote at a very young age. The sad part was she was by far the best built and best lookin pup in that litter.
