  1. In my opinion, the Saluki influence bring a hell of a lot to the table....? I am an devotee of the herding based lurcher, but my best ever catch dog, was nie on a Saluki.... I never won any coursing matches,.. but I did put a deposit on the house I now own through her exertions I was a born loser, going nowhere fast,...I will never forget that superbly game and skilful pot filler... Mercedes,. I thank you....?
  2. I have met the Mighty Whin. I liked him , we go back a long time,.. but ...?.
  3. What a representative of UK hunting for the Yankee coursers..? I bet poor Old Dutch Salmon didn't know what had fecking hit him?
  4. Well, folk say that 'Travel broadens the Mind'...and I've had plenty of opportunity to hunt/shoot with close pals, who have pursued Boar, and various deer species, all over Europe, but, I'm not a shooting enthusiast , so it has never appealed to me. Same with the walked up Grouse, Goose flighting and Woodcock shooting.. My pals all reckon it has been great craic and they always return from their trips away, invigorated and full of stories. I've probably missed out on a lot of great sport..? Even when in the Sahara, and amidst the High Atlas or the lovely wild places of Anatoli
  5. Hi,.. yes you are 100% correct,.. life is what you make of it, and my own speedy decent into old age, has brought this fact into perspective,. big time? As has been said on this unique hunting man's forum, several time, "We are all different". Merles,.. well, my Father was a Shepherd , as was my Grandfather, and I was brought up amongst sheepdogs and cattle curs,...and very many of our working dogs were of a Merle coloured hue.
  6. Wow, so many interesting posts, from well travelled hunting men,...it would seem that this unique site has now finally gone, Intercontinental..? Kinda brings my own, humble UK wide, rabbiting career, into perspective?
  7. There is an amazing divergence of type in antlers..?
  8. Yes,...let's meet up for a glass of Red sometime,...I really like your script...?
  9. Hi F,...I am originally from Prestigne in Wales, but we left our smallholding/sheep/cattle farm, and I ended up, in downtown Hampshire..? Although I have never hunted amidst foreign climes, like yourself, I have tried to make the most of the UK quarry species... Nowadays, I stay very much out of the limelight, and I've found it best to keep my few good friends close,.. and to keep others,.. out of my life... I am sure you understand....?
  10. Wow! You have certainly led an exciting and varied Hunting Life, Sir.?
  11. Sensible and poignant words Levigsp? So refreshing, to hear such words from someone who obviously,. .knows the score...?
  12. You are not kidding,...it was an exceptionally long and uncomfortable journey,...I quipped that I could have reached Afghanistan quicker.. I am not a good traveller, and I vowed never to return to Caithness...
  13. Fair play.. erudite and well-considered reply? I guess the bottom line is,.. we are all doing our own thing , earning our corn, and basically just trying to get through life, the best way we can... Just like dear old Moley?
  14. Yes,..as I say, I personally do not think that Moles become trap shy...? My remark, regarding 'thinking outside the box' would apply for most types of hunting,...not simply mole trapping... Obviously, you are perfectly entitled to your own opinion,.. and I genuinely respect that...?
  15. Some moles seem to deliberately avoid traps, they do this, time after time, and if you are working in a big Country Garden, they can cause you a whole lot of stress, and more than a little, embarrassment..? In such a confined area, the customer, or his Head Gardener,.. can see your every move,...you simply must, catch that fecking mole.? Personally,.. after a good few decades of trapping, all sorts of critters,.,. I do not believe Moles become trap shy, in the same way as Foxes can.. From a professional's point of view, the worst mole to catch, is the mole that has buggered off and i
  16. Tommy was a harvester of rabbits,.. he regarded the rabbiting business, in much the same way as pro-fisherman would think of the day's catch. It was all , strictly business... Same with the dogs, (they were nearly all called Ruby, mostly Red in hue, and invariably, for sale).. The man still is, a good handler of Sheepdogs, and has sold a few, for absolutely phenomenal money? Personally,. I found Caithness, and the surrounding area to be a strange old place,.. I killed game, in quantity and filled my boots, as did everyone else, but compared to other locations in the UK,..it was
  17. These types were two a penny,.. back in the day,....and what canny days they were....?
  18. ? Nice friendly, easy to live with types.. Everyone had them round our way in the 1980's... We did ok with them...?
  19. ?? If you need any other images of Rusty, just PM me your Email addy and I'll send them over to you?
  20. Well, I do get,.. 'out and about' ya know?.. I am surprised that you did not remember Neal,...I was actually,...the Vicar?
  21. Yes, I would go along with the Aussie dog analogy,...but obviously not everyone wants to buy a Drover's coat and matching Kelpie dog as an essential accessory,...a few good souls, genuinely do want to use them on the farm... When the first batch of Kelpies hit the UK, their breeder was fairly adamant that she would only sell, to working Shepherds. I was after a pup, but fate led me down another path? Unfortunately, more than a few of these early jukels, seemed to end up in the hands of men who could barely shit straight, let alone school a working dog?... I had a few crazy canin
