  1. Well the pumpkin soup was nice although I think i'll be finishing it off all week. We also had roasted pumpkin seeds, pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie. Think I may have overdone the pumpkin theme
  2. Don't think they can swim in general, many zoo's, including chester have moats around the enclosure to help keep them in, however there was an Attenborough programme a few years ago and some chimps were shown crossing a river to feed!!!
  3. Cracking pics JD, will you be saving some for the new book
  4. Can anyone help with a ferret health problem. I had a hob start going bald, and was told by the vet it was hormonal, to cut a long story short after over a hundred quid and lots of tests the ferret was PTS with prostate cancer. I now have another hob showing the same symptoms (bald tail) and was wondering if it could be something else? The odds seem a bit long for two ferrets to have prostate cancer in a few weeks. Any advice gladly received :search:
  5. Sounds good, you teach me how to shott and i'll teach you how to spell :11:
  6. Welcome Wally, One day you will realise dogs are much more fun and get yourself one, however the shotgun licence is being applied for, which is a scary thought
  7. Theres a guy who advertises in Earth Dog Runnig Dog. Sells his boxes around the shows, seem good quality.
  8. JD, was that his first? Read about his ability on other quarry but did he regularly take them pre-ban?
  9. Godd pics Stabs, is that your real beard :11:
  10. It's all down to personal choice. Any dog can be a stock killer if not trained and in the wrong hands. My dogs are around livestock, poultry and cats all day with no problems, why? because I stock broke them like any other dog. As I already mentioned, i didn't purposefully buy Shepherds to hunt with but when out they display good instincts and a good nose. However the question arose would they be a usefull baseline for a lurcher They have an excellent nose, good feet, coat, good mouth, stamina and again when using EUROPEAN WORKING LINES they have good physical/mental attributes. Again i
  11. I'll concede you are a better shot However with regards to the bulls bottom I don't want to mention too much with your court case iminent :11: :11: :11:

  15. Glad your bitch is working well. Can be devestating when a good working dog is out with injury ( I know). 10 rabbits, 10 runs, can't ask for any more
  16. Hi Mick, I'll try and get some up by next weekend, trying to master the digital camera. I suppose I could read the instructions but that would be admitting defeat :11: My dogs don't resemble the mutant in CharlieC's photo, thank god
  17. Interesting thread, but i would like to add there are German Shepherds and there are German Shepherds. The comments about the dogs aggressive temperament and conformation can clearly be seen in some dogs in this country. 99% of Shepherd in this country are bred for show or pets. European Shepherds are a totally different kettle of fish, they are bred for WORK. I have two such dogs bred from Belgian inports, one a youngster and a six year old male. The male has been worked in various competitions and is both physically and mentally sound. The dog is trained for competition obedience, has
  18. Thanks for the advice, been driving around trying to get a decent noise and its getting better, although you do get funny looks at the traffic lights
  19. Do any of you guys use the Acme predator call. I tried one today and it reminded me of Sootys mate Sweep. First thoughts were the only thing that could be called in would be Matthew Corbett. :11:
  20. Just watched a programme on National Geographic about a supposed 1,000lb, 12 ft long boar shot in America. It also mentioned the feral population of wild boar in southern England and Wales and wondered if anyone had ever come across them when out working the dogs?
  21. Doubt it I once managed three baby shams and a pint of snakebite without being sick  :11:
  22. Last ones seem to be leaving in Lincolnshire, Powerwashed the kennel and run after Housemartins have deposited their diet over the concrete
  23. I enjoyed Sean Frain's books on the Patterdale Terrier and Rat Hunting. I think you are being very unfair on his artistic ability, rumour is that all drawings for the book were subcontracted to Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder. My favourite is the terrier carrying the rat in the Rat hunting book. I am currently trying to track down the breeder of these terriers which appear to have no neck, stumpy and deformed legs :11: :11: :11:
  24. Don't think i need to know what you do to a pig :11:
