  1. I no ol george gaskin well ,I remember his dad and his lad , my mam still hawking pegs, flowers into the 1990s i still make the flowers ,nice gift once all diyed and dip them in glitter make them look nice , henry gaskin ,he had some of the best coursing jooks I see along with ol cocker smith , they can tell a story or to ,
  2. The fluffy brigade have destroyed the whippet x bedlington ,turning it into a lap dog ,show dog . lots of cr@p bred for looks nothing else , im happy the. Dry grey not bred so much as they ruin that as well .
  3. Likes been said the show folk fu@cked the bedlington terrier up ,these types were bred as vermin destroyers not lap dogs , also other types started to be used more and the fire in bedlington slowly went to the wall , yes still bedlington types working but they not like the old stuff that worked any vermin from brock to rats ,maybe if they bred best to best they could turn it around befor to late if not to late already . just my opinion
  4. I never keep a jook just for one job,got to be able to work all kinds of land and game ,one trick pony no good for me as just not got the kennel space so a jook must be a all rounder ,I don't care what's in them as long as they keep me happy and try there best that's all we can ask of them .
  5. I was given a falcon tracker ,I was going to buy a collar and use that as save ££)£ ,
  6. What gps you using mate ,I'm looking to get one for my young bitch as once she's behind something she can go few fields and always best to b safe .
  7. Put the best working bedlington dogs over good bitches and you soon get s line but they must work not just play
  8. Yep they started to breed for show and ££££ and that's the ruin of many good working breeds , my bedy grey still got anufe fire to find and deal with gingers ,but with the ban and the antis wanting all field sports gone it's hard to work a lurcher ,terrier for what it's bred for today as eyes are always about . happy mooching
  9. Back in 70s my brother kept bedy lurchers ,they had bedlington in them but also a lot more as like you say lurcher x lurcher . They was around 22/23 tts and he took most stuff ,mostly to put in the pot for my mum,nan but he'd take fox for pelts in winter ,no good feeding a jook if it's not earning its keep back then and that's how it should be "bred to work " not look nice !!!!
  10. Same as I get out as much as I can ,but family, work so weekends and od night when on back shift ,they get a good hour or more a day out along river or hunting in paddocks so there not bored .
  11. Thanks tomo , yes that's the way it's done ,my uncul Herbert smith is fella on open lot wagon ,and they mostly my dads family . love this old film ,Bromyard hop gardens .
  12. im surprised daves granddaughter didn't take on the kennels ,who do you go to for a first x now ? Not many folk breeding genuine first x no matter what folk say . same with bedy grey ,just karnt find them
  13. If any one knows how to load vids there's one on YouTube called roving romanies in 1950s hereford. most of the folk on this film are my unculs and aunts and family ,this shows a true picture of gypsy life around the hop yards of hereford and wagon life . i don't know how to put it up but I'm sure some nice fella on here will let me know . have a nice day what ever you doing ,
  14. It had canvas that would pull over the front at night but a very primitive way of making shelter .
  15. Back then nothing stayed fancy ,wagon life looks all cosy and romantic but far from it ! in bad weather the mud, dirt would get every were and cover everything ,yes the wagons might look all bright when new but they didn't stay like it . today no one lives day to day in vardo unless you a new age traveler or on a site , the ones you see at fairs etc are show peaces and never lived in apart from few days a yr . the wagon in this pic is unusual as door on the side ,
  16. Yes they very dark ,I'd say most gypsy family's started off dark skinned .
  17. I remember my grandfather had a big square canvas tent just like that ,it had a wooden floor of old planks and a stove ,they slept in the vardo and lived in the tent in bad weather .
  18. I was born in a hop yard in hereford , a pic of my dad and his wife on the aby rd to wales in 1960s I think .
  19. A good day out ,what a place for a days ferreting . your a lucky man my first x coming along fine and we've had some good days out in good company ,rabbit numbers are still low round me but as long as the jooks see work that all that matters , atb mouch
  20. What sir name they have ,I remember the old trailers like this yrs ago . its strange how a lot of old gypsy folk had really dark skin ,still get dark travelers today but mostly that blood gone to the wall over the yrs , any more pics ,b good to see them atb cushty bock
