Every year I get invited to beat on a commercial shoot but over the last 4 years or so I’ve always made my excuses because a load of rich nobs shooting because they can doesn’t sit well with me now, I much prefer the working mans shoot even though some are just there for the shooting nothing ever goes to waste

I’m the same, I have a few people who are always grateful for a few birds and like you say I don’t want paying for them because it’s not about the money, one thing that annoys me about the shoot is at the end of the day some people don’t want to take any birds with them, so in my head I think what’s the point in shooting them if you don’t want them, they might as well go and shoot clays if you have no respect for the birds you are taking

I really must look into this, maybe I’m ment to spend some time in restaurants with her instead of dark fields on my own, I’ll do a bit of research and let you all know hope you have a cracking day tomorrow, beating is my favourite bit, I’d take running the beating line over shooting any day ?

It always amazes me how many acorns them greedy little beggars can eat in one sitting, I was watching some the other day and the speed they were scoffing them down was mental

Your not wrong, there’s not enough days in the week for me, this is the first year I can remember when I’ve never had time to shoot pigeons over stubble or summer squirrels around the shoot, although they will be getting battered over the coming weeks

Well it’s almost here, a week tomorrow and we have our first day, just a small day teaching them how to fly, I’m hoping for a season like last year, they have all stuck around and are not wandering to far from roost, we have also played the game and temped a few of next doors birds to come and join the dark side along with some Wildies, the one thing that has been noticed is they are not taking the amount of feed that last years birds did by this time, maybe it’s down to there been a lot of natural still about for them, I was watching a small group wolfing down acorns the other day and another

Well I had a look out again last night and the bait was still there and the only thing on the camera was buzzards and crows pecking at it, so it may of just been a one off chancer, I’ve left the camera there and will check again after the weekend, if nothing shows I’ll take it as job done, after checking the camera I went to some other fields I shoot rabbits on, I was shocked at how many there was as this place gets battered, so after spreading a couple around the field with the .243 ( for fox bait ) I think a wonder round with the rimfires is in order for next week

Well the deer were a no show and to be honest I didn’t expect to see any early evening so I decided to hang around and have a go at the hoppers again, now this is the place where he likes me to leave them for the fox because he thinks they will not bother the ducks if there’s rabbits laying around, 12 was the bag and I left 6 and took the other 6 with me, I have to confess I did miss about 7 but they were all over 150 yards and I was just seeing how far I could push the mouse gun, I did hit one at 156 paces but they could of been a bit of luck involved ?

I was waiting for that, I was stud in a hole when I took the picture, my spirit level needs a new bubble, my tape measure is faulty, a pigeon landed on my string line when I was pushing the post in ? any one of them excuses will do ?

I have a place that I have shot rabbits and foxes on for many years now, I had a call from the owner asking if I would come and have a look at a little bit of woodland he has planted as the deer are wrecking the trees, now I’m here and it would appear to be roe knocking them over so he has told me to take what I can ( very nice of him ) shame there’s very little time for the bucks, I may have to see if anyone else wants a go, it would be a shame to waste this opportunity, I’m going to have a sit out to see what’s about but I think this could be a first light thing ?

You should get some clipped mallard ? on there, put the building off until after February ?? We have just poured a foundation this morning and I had to get in it with a bucket because there was 2 foot of water in it, but this afternoon I’ve been putting equestrian fencing up and I’m over the moon with how wet it is, the posts went in like pushing them through butter

I love having a go at the geese, I’d fling a sickie for that, I’ve got a meeting tonight with a bloke I do a bit of shooting for, he wants to show me around a new woodland he has planted because the deer are wrecking it but he has duck ponds on this place and a lot of geese so they will be getting a mention

That looks the same as one I used to have until someone thought they needed it more than me, they were just the same as the one I’ve got now and worked the same way, just with different buttons inside
