  1. At a bit of a loose end I thought I’d introduce a young lad from the pheasant shoot to the world of rifle shooting, so this been his first time shooting rifles I went over to his house to run through the do’s and don’ts before we headed off out, the rifle of choice was the.17hmr, as we arrived at our destination we were straight at the rabbits , the first two shots were clean missed so a little advice in the form of breath and it’s not the end of the world if you miss did the trick and the next shot was a good 75 yards and dropped on the spot, we then had a walk around the grass fields where
  2. Nice, they look in cracking nic, ?
  3. In my head I do, most other people will probably think something different ?
  4. We have had this a few times in the past, as long as we get them on the medicated and dose the water in the first few days they come good, last year they started with the bulging eyes and sh*ty back ends and took a bit of pulling round but that turned out to be one of the best years we have had, the lad who runs the shoot told me yesterday that this is his last year doing it and asked if I wanted to take it on with little Hugo’s dad, it’s got me thinking now that I might want to give it a go for a season and see how I get on ?
  5. I certainly can’t take all the credit but it’s a lovely sight when you go up and see them doing what pheasants do and looking well after a worrying week when things weren’t looking good, my mate Andy has spent a lot more time up there this year, his little lad Hugo loves been there and he’s at the age now where everything is a question and I know his dad loves that because he can show him things that most kids don’t get to see
  6. BUY IT, BUY IT NOW ??????? i have the standard t3x lite stainless in .243 and to be fair I don’t think I’d buy any other rifle, they are very well made and do everything you would expect from a quality made rifle
  7. Well they are coming along, most are out the pens now and seem to be doing well, after the first week in the pen a fair few didn’t seem to be doing to good, very lethargic and not really take much feed, so a keeper friend of my missable mate I take out, spent all Sunday up there with him sorting them out, dosing the water with all kinds of medication and giving advice about keeping them on the medicated feed and that they needed to be out the pens, it seems to have done the trick, they were looking a lot happier today, fingers crossed this is how they will carry on ?
  8. I’ve never owned one but I do know a gamekeeper who has one in 223 or 243 ( I can’t remember which) and he loves it, he’s never had a bit of bother with it in the 3 years or so that he’s had it and everything he points it at dies so you can’t ask for more than that, they must be tuff because he won’t look after it and it’s still working, it’s just a tool to do a job for him and seems to do it very well and for that price I don’t think you will go far wrong
  9. Well that sounds delightful, her indoors doesn’t want me in the house at the best of times I think if I was stinking like a fox she would not let me through the door ???
  10. That’s cheap, it will do exactly what you would expect it to, a good little work horse for not a lot of money at all
  11. Looks like a very worth while night shift, nice job ?
  12. Very sad to hear about your friend and member of our community, cancer is a truly horrible disease that at some point will affect all of us ether directly or indirectly
  13. Back up on the sheep farm tonight for a wander, just to get me ready for going back to work tomorrow , I took the .17 HMR for a bit of bunny bashing for a bit of fox bait and had a good walk around looking for foxy evidence, I managed 9 hoppers and dropped them off at places around the farm giving me good backstops, as I lost the light I headed back to the farm yard and gave it 40 minutes with the .243 I had the torch mounted on the top ( not my favourite way of shooting) with the caller out in the field it wasn’t long before I spotted one to my right along the hedge, now this one winded me an
  14. It’s bath night tomorrow so they’ll be able to get a little closer ?
  15. They are a smart looking thing, fingers crossed they do the trick for you, good to see people helping each other out on here, nice one Si ?
  16. That’s bang out of order, they don’t tend to make it back home with a .243 size hole in them, you would think a vet could tell the difference between a road accident and being shot, I f*cking hate cats and cat owners ( my wife has a cat ?)
  17. That’s my happy, friendly face. Do you think it’s a bit much ? it might explain why people don’t stand to close to me
  18. So I gathered up the long one and headed up to the sheep farm for a wonder, on arrival we had half an hour chat with my good mate who’s running the farm while farmer John is away enjoying a bit of sun before the hard work starts, we headed down the farm to the wheat and rape stubbles, past the sheep to the top gate, a quick run round the field with the lamp and there was the eye shine, passing the lamp to longshanx I mounted the rifle and gave a few blasts on the caller, the ginger headed straight towards us stopping about 75 yards ish from us on the stubbles, with the wind behind us it knew t
  19. Nice going mr sausage, at least she hung around long enough for you to sort her out on the second attempt ?
  20. Nice going chap, this is definitely the time of year to make a dent in them ???
  21. I’ll be there .17 in one hand rainbow flag ?️? in the other ??
  22. I like this form of therapy, I don’t have to listen or show any interest in your problems because you have to be quite and then once the session ends my patient goes home feeling better, I think this could be a new line of work for me ?
  23. I don’t know if any of you lads would be interested but I’ve just got myself a lovely pair of boots for when I’m out with the .17, for me if I’m not styling it right when out shooting then I might as well stay in with a face pack on and a glass of fizz ??
  24. I love a .17 I find the ammo fits very well in my handbag ?
