It’s just nice sometimes to be out with someone, even better if it’s someone I can pass a bit of knowledge onto, it’s just not like it used to be, when I could ring half a dozen people and everyone would say yes and they would just be happy to be out, now most of the time they say no or it’s yes, but they can’t go until a certain time and have to be back for such an such time, that’s no good to me, I’m the one doing them a favour, there’s very few young ones now that will put the effort in like we did when we were their age, I used to go out with one lad many years ago and we wouldn’t go out u

Just asked a young lad if he wants to come to the shoot this afternoon as he has asked me quite a lot to come out with me, told him we’d go about 3 have a look for a deer, then when we’d lost the light we could have a call for a fox and I’d take the .17 so he could shoot a few rabbits. He said could we go tomorrow because he is watching the rugby later, NO, would be the answer to that, what is wrong with these people, I used to spend all my time telling people no, when they were begging to come out with me, now I can’t buy a mate ?

Bugger, forgot about that, it looks like a trip out later this afternoon on my own because no one want to come out and play ?

It’s probably my favourite place I’ve got to walk around with a rifle, even though I didn’t get a shot off it was still a pleasure to be there, I really should of been there before first light, but it was a struggle getting up at half 4, never mind half 3, I think I’ll put an afternoon shift in tomorrow, because I’m very tired ? now

Well, got on another single doe, needed to move forward a few steps to clear some branches and a bloody pigeon gave me away The road noise has started now and everything seems to have headed to the cover, so I think I’ll call it a day ( morning)

6:10am up at the shoot, lovely spring morning, 6 fallow doe’s in the field at the back of the piggeries, if I’d of come the other way round I could of got on them, but they spotted me as soon as I came to the corner of the field and headed back into the piggeries wood

I think it celandine, part of the buttercup family, I only know that because the road next to mine is called celandine way ?

A run up to the sheep farm tonight with longshanx, everything is out in the fields now so we set off towards the bottom of the farm, as we reached the fence separating the two fields I looked around with the thermal and noticed a lamb run from the hedge back, followed by a fox, I was up on the sticks but the fox had made it to the top of the hill and although I could see it it wasn’t a safe shot, the fox then disappeared over the brow, we jumped the fence and headed up the field checking with the thermal, expecting to see it at the top, when we got there it was nowhere to be seen until longsha

They probably wouldn’t believe me, I’ve told 2 people and they have both looked at me as if to say “ your full of sh*t “ . These things always happen when no one is there to see it

Get yourself on the air rifle section and join in, there’s a few on there from around your area, they are a friendly pi*s taking bunch and if you join in a bit and they get to know you a little, one might help you out, best of luck ?

I only have 2 places I will shoot foxes right through now until the cubs are out and about and they are the shoot and the sheep farm, even then I don’t hammer the shoot, I like to start again up there around June ?

Well, I went to the shoot last night and took him with me, he didn’t bring his sticks and there was no mention of wanting to shoot, I should of let him because there wasn’t a fox to be seen, just badgers eating my rabbits I’d put down, once the moon came out we headed to the back field of the farm where there’s cover from the moon, gave it half a hour but seen nothing apart from a couple of roe and a young fallow buck

Lad from last weeks trip to the shoot has just text me asking “ are you out tonight and do I want to go and see if WE can get that fox from last week “ what do you think ? ?

Out done myself today, garlic roast chicken, cream mash, thyme and black pepper roast spuds, bit of veg, roasting tin chicken stock and white wine gravy, I’m going to need a nanna nap before I go out foxing tonight ?

I’m not made of money, I was thinking second hand 007 ? When they got the place they got them on the land every week, they have spent a fortune on flood lights, SMS cameras and have put gates up and a barrier so they can’t pull off the road, he said it’s made a massive difference but you shouldn’t have to spend that sort of money because some tw*t thinks they can just go where they want

Well, not a bad walk out, 12 rabbits and 2 hares, I took the hares off the front field as he asked me to do, I counted another 16 around the back of the farm but I don’t like shooting them if they are going to go to waste, I kept 4 of the rabbits for fox bait, the little HMR did the job with the nightsite on ( I know most people don’t like them but it works, I was thinking of getting rid of it and getting a pard but haven’t made my mind up yet) should of had a few more but the moon was a nightmare
