I remember me and Royston went apple stealing, it was in our neighbours garden, we realy hated this old bloke...but what we done, is we ate around the apples, but left them still hanging on the tree..lol. In the morning he had two apple trres that had been growing just cores!..lol...our mum knew we done it, coz we where both shitting through the eye of a needle for about two days after!..lol. I can also remember "Wagon wheels" being about the size of a fecking dinner plate, and "Curly whirlys" being about five feet long!..lol...know they look like a coffe mug coaster, and a stick of fecking

Alright Dogginlad.. Nice pictures...would LOVE to see that 31" dog coursing a Coyote!...has it done much, and what kind of quarry has it taken?...PM if you want.. Kye,..

I was out shooting with my airgun, maybe eight years ago...it was on a farm my dad was Herdsmen on, in Berkley, Glos... Just as i climed over a fence, i saw a white hare run into the same field from another gate way about thirty yards up the hedge line...I always thought it could of been a Blue Hare on holiday or summat, but i dont think theres any in that area!?...i have never seen a Blue hare, being a "Southern Puff"..lol..so i can only assume that it was a white hare?.. Nipper, never has a dumber statment been uttered!.. :11: If you theory was correct, we wouldnt have Lurchers, we would just have big, slow whippets!... :11: Kye,..

I hate people that only breed from "One trick Ponys"...clearly they have no exsperiance!.. :realmad: :11: :11: :11:
-
I wonder why they are not more common?...i would certainly give that type of dog a try if i still lived back home. Thanks for the input guys! Kye,..

Not long ago, we looked after a real nice Choc Lab...it was un-like alot of other Labs, in the way that it was a very racy build, and looked real tidy...i was thinking, what kind of pups would result from a union with a nice big greyhound...has anyone ever tried them...i once hunted a few days with a bloke who had a Lab x Grey, and a pup from that bitch, but the bitch had been put to a Deerhound X greyhound... The Deerhound/Grey X Lab/Grey was a real nice dog, although ugly as hell, it caught a fair few rabbits, and he told me it knocked deer down easily..it was some size as well, about 28"

Thanks, just got the book,.. Seems a nice read, and there are plenty of nice pictures in there for thoses of us who cant read "Proper"..lol. I think all lads/lass' in our walk of life have cut there teeth on Air guns and shooting sparrows and starlings, and going onto rabbits and some strange longtailed birds (at night!..lol.) at some point in our lifes.. All the best,.. Kye,..

That top pic is beautiful...two keen young 'uns out there, learning the game!..keep up the good work, and get as many kids as you can in on the life style!!!... Kye,..

Your totaly right Stabs, dont for one minute think these lads are wanting a pup to kill Yotes...like you said, there in for a look, and to maybe get a mouth full of fur...but non the less, they are being run on tough quarry!...but yes they are with "made" dogs... Kane, the Saluki/Greys X Collie/Greys i seen working where mainly used for deer (pre ban) and they sure could tip them over well enough...the lads that had them werent realy into there foxs much, but i think there dogs had the odd one without any problems while having a walk out... Kye,..
-
I totaly agree RobW...but who am i to tell these lads how to do things?!...they have been doing that early entering since for ever, and im sure they wouldnt do it if it didnt work!...imo, the dogs are FAR tougher out here..i dont mean gamer or anything, they just seem to not be affected buy the cold/heat and rough terrain...if they where, they wouldnt survive, so they couldnt be bred from!.. My dogs live in temps that range from -120F...i can be in the desert Saturday, then be on a Mountain side in Arizona 8.000 feet higher than i am here, and be in two feet of snow...and yet it dosnt bother

I used to work in a warehouse that shipped there goods...thought it was familier!..lol. Kye,..
-
lol..i know what you mean Doug...it scares me to think of dogs that young taking such heavy quarry!.. The sighthound scene here seems to be very different from back home...trading and swaping dogs is very common, and not realy frowned upon...needless to say, im sure there are plenty of dogs going around that should be culled!...lucky for me i seem to have fallen in with the right people, and any dogs that need culling, well they get culled!..lol. This coming fall will be my first PROPER season with the Running dogs here in the States, so i will be able to let you know later in the year...
-
That red T-Shirt whith the whippets on!?...you got that from Marks & Spencers didnt you!..lol.. Kye,..
-
I used to think along the same lines regarding entering to certain quarry types... But the Sighthound lads sure do things different over here!...The guys that run Coyote are running there pups as young as SIX months old!...they are of course run with older dogs to bring them on though...but it still seems young dont it!?...Im sure not many guys back home would consider slipping such young dogs on an animal that is the size of a Coyote!.. Ive hunted with a few Collie/GreyXSaluki/Grey...imo, they are FAR better than 3/4Grey 1/4 Collie...for some reason, the blood seems to gel togther real we

A friend of mine just got one for $12.50!!...ok, ok, fool may have been a bit strong!..lol...i would LOVE to have some of them blades that cost that much...but are they any better than the cheaper ones?...sometimes you have to get rid of somethings quick, and i wouldnt fancy lobbing a 12" $500 Bowie knife in a river!..lol. I will stick to my Bushmans!...they have NEVER let me down!...im sure you will be happy with yours Snelly, they sure can hold an edge!.. Kye,..
-
Snelly, they DO sell knifes for MUCH higher prices...some in the $500 range...but what the f**k would i do with a knife like that in the field?...imo, only a fool would pay that much for something like a knife...when i come home, im gonna bring a LOAD of knifes with me...then it will be first come, first served...the Mini-Bushman would be a great knife for you boys back home...big enough to deal with deer, small emough for cleaning the humble rabbit...there one pieace construction make them almost unbreakable!...even if you DO break it, Cold Steel will send you a new one!.. If you order a ful

Thanks Ian... Kye,..

There are three kinds of Jack rabbit that i know of mate...the Blacktail, the Whitetail, and the Antelope Jackrabbit... The Black and Whitetail seem to be roughly the same...but the Antelope is HUGE!...i have killed them in Arizona as big as 13lbs!...they do however seem slightly slower than the other two types...ive not realy had alot to do with the Hares over here yet, as my dogs are still young...this coming season should see a few being added to the bag though!..Fingers crossed.
-
Both looking well there Royst!...Its amazing how far that little bit of Cattle dog has gone in that Brindle...just in the neck, almost cloddy looking...just like her running style..lol. Being half Alsation, you should train that other thing summat useful...like how to walk to heel..lol. Hope this season, they do well on the rabbits.. kye..
-
Yeah Mik,..they call it Bugling (spl?.lol) its the strangest noise i have ever heard, and it sounds preastoric...sends shivers down your spine, thats for sure!...Cow elk make a sound that sounds just like a bird or a small cat!...its like a "Meww..Meww" sound...real strange! Kye..
-
I dont know about the Red and the Elk?...all i know is that the Elk are MUCH bigger...but they do resemble Red's...they sound real different when in the Rut as well...Oh, and Elk tastes better, imo... :11: I know some guys who have shot Elk with bows...one bloke i know shot one from about 12 yards away...it only ran about 40 yards...im putting in for my Non-Tribal Cow Elk tag this season, in AZ...fingers crossed i get it...i wont be using a bow though...probably the .30-06 or the 7mm Win Mag... I would say Hres are faster than Roe...but maybe they look faster because there little legs have
-
lol...i wouldnt even put a PACK of running dogs on a Bull Elk...but i would put dogs on a Cow...IF it was legal, but it isnt....i thought Elk where big until we where driving through Washington State and saw two Moose...they ARE big!... I would say the fastest animal in the UK is the Hare.. Having said that, the humble little rabbit can be a hard target...i bet the rabbit is the cause of the most injurys in the Running dog world, more than any other animal! Kye..
