  2. i'll give my borzoi x staghound pup a shot when he's old enough should grow around 32 inches and hell have a heap of experience on roos and emus, at 7 months he's catching 3/4 grown on his own at 28 inches so as a two year old im guessing hell have as good of a chance as any. and my uncle just boughrt a pup whos mum took down a 3/4 samber stag on it's own not a bad body on it a dog would proberly pull it u at the back leg and the work towards the head bloody hell wouldnt be easy think i'll bring a nice long knife with me and a couple tough dogs just in case
  3. i wouldnt keep a dog that isnt, as proof i had a good dog and bought a gh x staghound that was supposedly stock proof a pup hald chased a cow and the older dog committed naturaly my good stag went in they only stayed with me another 20 minutes afterwards
  4. how'd he get the scars, should have got rid of him thats to much money for a dog for that much money i could have got you one of the best stags in australia my limits $600 because it would proberly cost that much to find a dog id like and it would have to be a injury that wouldnt keep him in bed for long and wouldnt give a chance at effecting his running stlye, the skin on your dogs obviously paper thin and this same thing will happen a third time it might be in your best interest to turn the dog over or carry a gun with you next time you go out also hunting possums are illegal so i assume tha
  5. vixens get quite nasty around there cubs they really test a dog
  6. theres nothing really writen about dogs catching and killing game but your not really ment to do it but not one man im australia will make a peep about your dogs killing foxes , rabbits, hares, cats, pigs ect you cant kill native anmials period roos possums wombats ect but it's a big country without many people, and the hunting of deer verys in each state and territoy as well as species basically we do what we like other then samber deer which is the only really controlled hunting ( limited nuumber of hounds only beagals and bloodhounds no spotlight and so on but private property is a differe
  7. hey jack you've seen rimfires bitch hows it go?
  8. ya i cant help myself but might take my uncles dogs out tonight any way with a rifle i'm guessing your around melbourne then gerard lucky for me the boss is only making me work mornings
  9. your an aussie ya where you from mate might b able to give you a few numbers
  10. also steve theres alot of poeple that use mini foxies (tenterfields) over here that most of these poms would all ride off as shwo dogs that work quite well
  11. some of the best fx dogs iv seen were jack x greys that were no bigger then a whippet, and iv been hearing alot of good things about pat x staghounds , so i see no reason why a border x whippet wouldnt be usefull in a team even if you were to latter on cross it to a grey
  12. i understand the problems that can arise when workig multiple dogs down a hole at once but it's up to the owner to understand the capabilites of there dog, and yes many young dogs need the support of an older dog to grow to there full potentioal as fast as possible
  13. i catch roughly 200 foxes a year with 30 in the past few weeks aswell as a half dozen feral cats down holes aswell. with many of my friends averaging between 300 to 500. the way me and my mates do it get results the way you do it wastes your time
  14. i often run more then one terrier in a hole much better if you wont a bolt rather then a dig and id shoot a dog for grabbing another dog down a hole
  15. ya there good dogs i started mine as soon as i got him but didnt let him do any hard earth work untill just over twelve months
  16. personally and this is obviously just an australian thing (although a few terrier men dont) i encourage my terriers to go in and out and work different holes regardless of wether there bayers or fighters many of them even come out of a hole when called this ensures that i will never lose a terrier to a stony pile or under a big pine tree because not every den can be dug to and yet i can work every den and catch a fox out of any den. and lets be honest who really enjoys bracking there back digging holes when a bolt has the same result and gives your runner a chance to prove it's worth aswell t
  17. roughly 10% of the foxes i get are out of trees
  18. deerhound cross and then whippet cross
  19. if it's a good dog it's a good dog no matter the age and what iv found is the best dogs do seem to die young
  20. many of our stags have a large percentage of wolfhound in them and the can easyily be as small as 26 inches a friend of mine breeds them and although they are large they are smart have good eyes and nose and have the right build. they make a good cross
  21. whippets can take most things, cats hares rabbits foxes roos and will swing off a big boar. thier a tough dog in a weak dogs body
