  1. Ha. I took loads and got couple reasonable ones (just on phone) but none as good as this one of yours. Gorgeous.
  2. Came across this clump of mermaids purses on the beach this morning. Not really beautiful, and certainly not great photos, but interesting (to me) bit of nature. (Wondered how and why so many came to be tangled up together like this.... Although there was a piece of fishing line in there..... Would they have hatched from this cluster, or is it just a tangle of sea debris?)
  3. I shall roast the next lot. The boiling method has not been a screaming success. Burnt fingers and 2 whole Chestnuts.
  4. Anyone on here gather them regularly? Two of the many trees I walk by are, this year, producing usable nuts. I collected pocketful this morning and am thinking, having looked on few websites, score, boil, peel, freeze, in small batches. The first six are 5 bleurgh and 1 nice. Could do with a failsafe method.

  12. No doubt it's delicious. Did it set? (Ive had probs using strained quince from jelly for membrillo, wondered if first process uses the up the pectin?)
  13. Hmm... I'd do a tiny fruit and sugar compote, to see how it tastes, and go from there. (Might lend itself more to a vinegar onion relish thing?) I'd also do a small fruit only boil, and test for pectin (tsp liquor into tbsp meths) before bothering to do a full jam session. (Lemon shells, pips, crab apples etc to pep up pectin levels if nec).All just guessing...... (none of my fruit spirits last longer than 4 months, if they're not bottled up quick). I had a couple of abject fails with puddings using vodka soaked rhubarb and gin soaked sloes, and so now always bin the lot. Be interested to se
