  1. Excellent...what Park dogs & how far back?
  2. KD your old red dog has the look of Parks breeding is there much in him?
  3. I had a nice old type lakey bitch back about 20 odd year ago that was an exceptional fox bitch. She died aged around 11 while having pups for her son who belonged to a mate of mine, another very good dog,i think a couple off here will remember the dog[bonzo] it was the only way of trying to keep the strain alive but unfortunatly it did not come to pass.I also got a lakey bitch from a man up in NI,these were a good strain aswell and well tested.I had her up until she was 15 months old then she along with a lot more got stolen on me,i had dug to her 3 times and reckon she would have made the grade
  4. Good post Bosun. It brings me to a question, slightly off the topic, "Is there any real working Lakelands left in Ireland or for that matter anywhere?" Never saw 1 work. I remember seeing a couple years ago at Adare gamefair that took my fancy. Rangy harsh broken coated, moderate but strong headed, rough & ready black & tans with plenty of work about them. Now they may not have been up to std. who knows but nice type! Always wondered about them...please dont reply mentioning Gary Midleton or the likes stuff!!
  5. The problem with this site is lads are behind computers or phones making comments they dont have to answer for. I work the old Irish working white terrier...earth dogs. I wouldnt dream of risking any of my dogs in big rock. As Ive stated I dont particularly rate rock dogs bolting freshly startled unsuspecting foxes. Many a terrier who manages to reach em would bolt em. But rock dogs working driven foxes in rock have to be admired...they have to find in & traverse big awkward spots either bolt or kill a reluctant foe often in very challenging conditions & weather. To dismiss these dogs
  6. A good point RT, gives an insight into the harsh conditions endured by fell hunters!
  7. Thats my point you cant compare 1 with the other. "Horses for courses" & everyone to their own. As I said a good hunt terrier in the fells is IMO worthy of admiration because he has to regularly deal with foxes ran to ground & reluctant to leave. But a lot of rock terriers that generally meet fresh unsuspecting foxes will bolt them. That in my opinion does not necessarily qualify them as Game terriers. Yes they have to be admired for what they do, traverse rock, find in bad places & bolt many foxes to gun &/or lurchers. If thats suits you great but they may not make the grade a
  8. Dont work rocks, dont see the attraction. Too much mass on a decent earth dog to risk it in rocks. I enjoy the digging to a dog. You can hear the dog working as you approach & when you break in you get to see the dog working & also the fox itself. In general free lance terriermen who work rocks rely on stealth. "Silence is key" dog in bays/mixes, startles unsuspecting charlie who hightails it outta there. With the exception of its finding & rock traversing ability (which are traits to be admired) many a terrier could achieve this result. Wether it would make the grade as a top clas
  9. Do not give baytril or tetracycline; your vet may prescribe amoxicillin (or another penicillin variety) as a last resort. (Do not administer without a vet's advice.) But if your bitch's problem is Mastitis you can safely give her reduced amounts of cephalexin (250mg daily for a terrier)...
  10. Nice pics p3d that pic of an early litter of KBs could easily be mistaken for a pic of patterdales/fells/lakelands!!
  11. Couldnt agree more, cant beat the german gortex boots meindel, lowa etc
  12. Good dogs too hard to come by to risk them in rock earths!
  13. I walk any pregnant bitch as per usual alongside her kennel mates up to the 5 week mark. The only difference being that I take a route to ensure she doesnt come in contact with any cow fencers. After the 5 week mark her only exercise is a run around the garden till she pups. From about the 5 wk mark she is fed extra but dont overdo this as pups will grow too big unnecessarily. I use a suitable draught free whelping box with enough room for the bitch to pup in comfort. I use fresh straw as bedding not too much. Fresh water up on a block and secured. A Heat lamp is used no matter what time of ye
