    Has your lad still got the hancock pup? No gaz, the hancock got nerve damage in its front leg after running into a tree whilst daytime bushing, hit the shoulder severing the nerve,shame but bred off non-workers they seem to not be able to take the rough and tumble of hard work, PTS and another now buried in my garden next to his other hancock, neither lived longer than 18 months and he will not get anymore of my families money again, look-a-like lurchers they should be named, LOL's, WM

    I said I'd put a few pics of my lads line bred deerhound greyhound when I got the chance,he's a lovely dog and I'd have him in a heartbeat come live with me, he's 9 months old and stands at just over 27"TTS, even now we give him the odd run on a day out and he catches a few, good ferreting companion and follows the terriers when bushing catching his share so the future looks bright for him,WM

    It was a chance mating in the back of a car whilst the lads were in the pub, lurcher/lurcher really and the same there after, its very difficult to reproduce exact matings that make a name,everything there after is a dilution or mix of genes, this line were famous for stamina, catching large bags of mixed quarry, hope that answers your question, WM

    Deerhound/grey X collie/ grey were once the dog to have, seen them make short work of anything and wish there was more about, there's a guy down Craven Arms way,shropshire that pumps them out but they are sh*te, I went to have a look at them and they were very poor,2 blind pups in the litter and very inbred heavy dogs,he does a few shows and spouts the sh*t that the adults work but they quite clearly don't, we will breed off this dog if he turns out well but it will be either a greyhound or collie cross, WM

    DC,I think that depends on where you live and how you keep your dogs, all the lads that I've seen with parvo in their kennels have also been knee deep in sh*te and even after burning and replacing everything they've still had it back years later even after the jabs, look at Plummer he was a scruffy dirty bast**d,lost whole litters and adult dogs to it, I know lads in North Wales that kept kennels that were always sh*t high and it ravaged them, same in Crewe,the list is endless, keep clean kennels and feed the best and you will have the best out your dogs, mine live in these days and they are o

    I think you are dead right,there are not that many about being worked,you see a few at the shows with people who quite clearly are not working them but other than that they appear to be scarce, my lad has a nine month old line bred deerhound/greyhound thats very keen on everything so I will put some pics up of him when I take a few, he's caught quite a few rabbits for a pup so the future looks good for him,marks up holes and cover,great nose,fingers crossed, WM

    I bush everyday of the week with my Plummers and they smash through any cover,very rarely draw a blank and sometimes catch more than the lurchers, can be a bit vocal when they are hot on a scent but if its in there then they will find it and either kill it or push it out, WM

    Then you have not seen many,the black and white 3/4 in my previous post took his first fox at 9 months and pinned it perfect as it came through the sheep netting (daytime bushing pre-ban), it was all easy from there on, hardly ever missed a fox and very rarely took a bite, he was top class on rabbits but could make hard work on hare, he lived to a grand old age of 16yrs, the only bad faults were his stamina and he lost 2 toes over the years as he ran everything flat out even on hard ground, I had a 5/8grey 3/8 collie bitch that matured around 12 months and never made hard work of anything, fir

    Neil, I think a lot depends on the sort of work you're giving the first cross, ferreting,cover work etc then you will not be disappointed,for lamping though the fast short grass,golf courses you need the extra bit of pace of the greyhound or whippet, hope it works out for you, WM

    I'd defo stay away from hancock they're not worth a w*nk, I've ran all 3 crosses you talk of and witnessed many others in the field both lamping and daytime, I've also ran crosses with collie/grey in them and the best bitch for rabbiting large number,s easy to train etc was a 3/8 collie/5/8 grey,ran all night with plenty of stamina and speed,she would take other stuff as well pre-ban, I found the first cross half/ half a touch slow on fast fields or faster stuff,maybe the raciest in a litter may be different but I've never seen one I wish I'd owned, the 3/4 grey/1/4 collie are quick and will

    I am pretty much done on the historical genetics of Plummers now, I joined and left each Plummer club forum after gathering all the information I required, I am only interested from this point in my own terriers ,at 57yrs old these should see me done in the time I have left on the fields, WM
