    Had that happen before when the hen has had enough of the chicks she will chase them away but when penned it can get nasty.The sure sign to see if the hen is ready to leave the chicks is when she starts laying again.Many game type hens I've had leave their chicks at the 5-6 week mark.

    That's a nice bag and good looking dog as well . I stopped for this season myself recently due to the abundance of young.

    I agree can't really go wrong with a decent Brinsea.Will last an age if properly taken care of.

    Decided to head out for a bit of ferreting today.Upon arrival at the warrens the wind was awful and far to windy to set the longnet along the cover.Instead all the holes where netted with some difficulty in the hawthorn and nettles.The first warren produced one bolt and nothing else.The next was much better and gave 3 bolts and then silence.A nice day out if abit windy also very pleased with the way the dog is doing starting to mark holes and get in on netted rabbits.

    Can you elaborate on that mateThe bucket should be buried to the height of the ground so it is nothing to different to the rats.Any tin can will do a ridged bean tin works best as it holds the spread well.Spear the can through the top to bottom as central as possible with a straight stick to put over the rim of the bucket.When the rat or mouse tries to get the food the tin turns flipping the victim into the bucket.

    Done that method with a bucket to great effect.Putting a stick through the ends of a tin can with peanut butter on it flips the rats in when it goes for the bait.

    I use tree protectors once they have done there job keeping young trees safe.They can be washed of and reused can also pick them up pretty cheaply.

    Both my jills and the vesectomised hobs are all in season since 2 weeks ago.

    This one's half springer so slightly smaller than pure collies.Uses his nose well and is exellent at finding game in woods and cover.

    The dog was very good showed a lot of interest in the holes and netted rabbits.Had a small run on the slipped one but didn't get close.He's definitely getting better with marking and being around the ferrets.

    It was an alright day so went again today to the same warrens as last week .Took the same hob as last time and 2 jills also took the dog along to give him some experience.The first warren had plenty of fresh digging and activity but the hob still wouldn't go down.Left it a while but he still wouldn't go so took him out then collared up the albino jill and she went straight down,after 15 or so minutes came the first bolt and a rabbit with deformed teeth and one long front tooth.Nothing else bolted from this warren so we moved along the hedge to a small 3 holer and got one bolt but the net didn'

    The hob is around 2 years and had been out last season and had been told he worked well.Will try him again tomorrow and see how he goes.

    Would of been breeding my shamos this year if the breeding flock wasn't nicked before Christmas,leaving me with 2 hens.

    This male is very tame and stuck around probably due to he females still inside.

    Is that the top picture your referring to? I hadnt noticed that but Its looks like her beak is long but its the way its been taken and is actually the straw behind her.Its the same hen in the 3rd pic to.
