  1. yes, but has been updated recently It is a subject that affects us all.
  2. Hello Rez Today's homework is studying Squirrel hunter channel on You Tube It's good stuff. Makes me want to plant some trees and put up a feeder
  3. with the up most respect, am i missing the logic here.....or am i reading it different.....you sold your guns as you had no time to go shooting, due to breeding/flying your birds....but you went out and bought another gun to have it sitting around for the woody's and magpie's, No time for visits to the scuba centre or practising for BBC's Super Stars (remember that one?) with a pump I expect. When you can just pick up your spring gun and blam!
  4. I'm doubly impressed. Pro Sport and .22!!
  5. Cooked this up tonight. I won't be offended if it isn't everyone's cup of tea. The carcass is meat and bone only. No fur, bits and bobs etc. Method: About 4 tablespoons of olive oil (it's the modern way, maybe lard will come back when we leave the EEC) 8 fist sized diced spuds 3 onions 2 large garlic cloves - squashed with the side of a knife Added chunks of the rabbit then the rest of the carcass and hob top fried for about 20 mins. Added about two and a half pints of veg stock. Half a pound of frozen green beans A good fist of frozen brocolli A large pinch of salt 1 tablespoon of
  6. Mac, I think you need to consider taking a pay to shoot customer along with you, there would definitely be a demand as you are very well respected and it could make life more affordable. Think of it like a music teacher, they get £30 for 20 mins.
  7. Land rents do vary. But don't be put off. The rougher the land, the lower the price and the better for wild life. Do you have access to moorland? That is almost pence. Also see what is available from your local authority. It is surprising how much land is owned by councils and how inexpensive it can be. If you form a cooperative with your friends, it soon becomes affordable. Fieldsporthunter is right about the helping out jobs. It is hard though, as everything in agriculture is. That's why farmers are so grumpy.
  8. Or, try renting some land. Then sub let it to horsey types. Then it will pay for itself. A field could be £70 a year then let out to horsey people for £30 per month. More if you can supply a hut (container or van back). Maybe get some hens or animals on there yourself - livestock attracts nature. Magpies, Rabbits, etc. When you are a livestock keeper then you are in their club. People discuss pest control. They don't want strangers on their land as we have all suffered pilfering or worse. So opportunities come up. Rabbits make holes that horses break ankles in. Rats eat food for hens.
  9. Matt, I did have a .177 Tx200 full length. But If a gun isn't shabby, then I am too scared to use it. What drag a pristine gun through wet grass? Sit in the rain with it? So I spent more time drooling over it than actually using it. It was also front heavy compared to the Pro Sport. Not as front heavy as the 97K though. It makes me wonder what the full length HW97 must be like. Anyway I am gnashing my teeth like Muttley after scratching my Pro Sport barrel on the wall yesterday, another reason for getting a sling. But at least it has lost its cherry and can now be dragged around. It must
  10. Thank you for the replies. The Pro Sport was supposed to be the gun to end all guns. The purchase that would require no replacements. If I had the best spring gun then my compulsion would be nulled. So I got a very good, used Pro Sport. I chose .177 to lenghten the opportunities. Round here it is all open pasture with dry stone wall borders. Not many trees because the Yorkshire stone is so close to the surface. Plus everyone and their dog are barking on about .177 is the way to go, .22 is for old men. Blah Blah. So the gun to end all guns. Sob. Since then I have bought a .22 Airsporte
  11. Pro Sport .177, Hawke Eclipse, Arms Arms Diablo .177 Stalked down to appx 30 yards. Got it behind the eye, knocked its brains out of its ear. I prefer stalking to waiting. With waiting I tend to nod off. Like earlier this year on rat watch and I woke up about 3 hours later, covered in snow. So, grass about 12" high. Saw two rabbits at about 50 yards. Walk, sit. Stand up, walk, sit. Each time I sat, one rabbit sat up, then crouched. So, walk, sit. Then blam! The other rabbit legged it. Shame as I don't like to split up couples. My lady is coming round tonight. She thinks we'
  12. 3 Ducklings hatched this morning. Got some netting to put on the wire. Gaps in the existing wire are pretty tall but that's only 2" wide. Don't know how a magpie would get through, but they do I have my rifle with me whenever I go outside.
  13. You do know that Jeremy Corbyn was knocking her off for many years?
  14. I am it's a 1972 109. Like riding in a horse and cart though excellent - great choice of vehicle!!! wouldn't swap mine for anything else! I have a MK3 Metro as my daily driver, old cars are more reliable. But the Land Rover is a necessary truck. Thirsty, slow, unwieldy but essential for moving lots of stuff around and pulling big heavy things. Mine is ex-RAF, so it has a dial switch for the lights - for convoys etc where you can drive just with the back, or just the front, or normal so you can see and be seen sounds great - I put a discovery 200 tdi in mine, loads of
  15. Random, I'm off to Wilkinsons tomorrow, to get some strawberry netting. I think that will probably suffice. If I wrap it tightly it will look less crap. Should put them off a bit. I did hang up a dead magpie, but it hasn't put them off.
  16. I have only used RWS Superfields with mine, so far. Just because I had a tin really. Killed every rat I hit with them
  17. Yes, I think that will be inevitable. I have a roll of wire already but the run is 100 x 12 x 6 foot in size, a lot of wire. Jackdaws don't seem to go for the eggs though, just the feed, spilled or otherwise. All this expense and time, for some ducks that lay occasionally because they like sh*ggin so much and I don't eat many because plucking is such a time consuming chore.

  20. Can you get a bayonet for it, for those second shot moments?
  21. Progress. I haven't seen any droppings and the poison I have down hasn't been nibbled by anything except slugs. I have noticed some more tunnels though. The paint bucket below had Santex in it. I left it water filled for a couple of weeks, then filled it with soil, to remove the essence of man aromas. I now have it baited with broken eggs. In a few days I will put a Fenn trap in it. I drilled rat diameter holes in either end and have put the pie in front to deter sparrows, etc. I will let you know if it works
  22. Got another one today at tea time. It was lucky as they had already seen me outside but had worked themselves up into a frenzy. They follow a pattern, they sit on a neighbour's leylandii until the jackdaws go in first, then they circle round (when they saw me) then drop down on to the duck run roof. They have worked out how to wiggle through the wire. I got this one as it was jiggling its botty through the wire. It propelled itself up but fell dead against my shed. No death throws or twitching. Shame as it must be one of this year's hatch, the feather colours are so vibrant. But everyday an
  23. Not only am I combating rats (seem to have got numbers down) in my duck run, but now bl**dy magpies The mesh in the wire is only about 6" x 2.5" but they are squeezing through. I got this blighter in the top of a tree, about 30 yards from where I was standing. It jumped to another branch then dropped on to my Metro bonnet with a loud thud, then on to the floor. No twitching. Going to have to be more vigil, they normally see me heading down the path, and are gone, shaking their match boxes as they go. Another kill for my classic HW35. I don't why I bought other guns, oh yes, i
  24. I use Super Field just because there weren't any Super Domes in stock. I have had a few success though
