  1. On the subject of Julia wanting to shoot, let her, as Jimmy says, use your gun until she is really up for a gun herself. My wife and I really enjoy clay shooting and following on from that Trish thought an air rifle would allow her to share in this aspect of shooting but she just didn't seem to come to terms with it. I bought her a Brocock Contour, super lightweight gun, no good. I bought the Ultra as much as anything for her to shoot (I didn't tell her that) but again she just cannot get comfortable with a rifle. Don't splash the cash until she is READY, it can add pressure on her and tak
  2. To be honest Shaun, Jimmy has given you some wise words, heed them mate. This shooting mularky will digest loads and loads of dosh, trust me I have been shooting from the age of 13................................ouch. As Jimmy said, you have two cracking guns and another PCP will offer you................WHAT??.......................nothing different. I appear to have too many guns at the moment and it is true but I have a small window of opportunity while a bit of cash is there and once gone I can't replace it very easily so my tinkering with multiple guns is short lived and will
  3. Happy to shoot targets with it for the time being Tim, fully occupied with the Rapid FAC and Wildcat at the moment but enjoying the TX now matey, bloody superb, many thanks for your time and know how. Phil
  4. I think you mean 'Philpot' not that it matters. Glad you have a club to go to and one with a decent reputation. Good luck with it all and enjoy every minute. Phil
  5. It would be very worthwhile to get hold of some Falcon Accuracy Plus or JSB Exact Jumbo RS both of which are light, flatter flight and suit springers as I have established in .177 versions. Phil
  6. If you want to save some cash Shaun, I will be selling my Utramax .177 which you can tune to your hearts content and it is in camo.......................... Phil
  7. Yes, in the UK we are allowed to own / use air rifles with a maximum 12 ft/lbs. Over this power level, you will need a Firearms License. Phil
  8. This year has been broken down into many parts with different commitments and projects, some very enjoyable and some a pain in the arse but on a shooting aspect the year has thrown up some very rewarding and interesting things. I have done a little streamlining of my shotguns, moving on a couple that did not meet up to what I now require in my guns and adding a semi auto which a year ago, I would not have put into the frame at all but as my clay shooting and pigeon/corvid shooting have quite different demands and so my guns have, for the time being, changed to a point that I am reasonably
  9. First call is your local gun shop and check what he sells and the price for a slab (250 cartridges). The prices will vary for different types and to be honest as you are just starting out, I would not buy into the top competition brands. The other thing to bear in mind is that many clay shooting clubs will sell cartridges cheaper than the shops so well worth looking at. The advantage of joining a clay shoot is that you will have a great place to learn, picking up a little help from others as well as getting the low down on where to buy at the best prices if not at the club itself. If you d
  10. I thought that was just the way you walked Nelly.......... Phil
  11. See if you can meet up with an owner and try one out. Phil
  12. I have to be honest and say that despite the ribbing I got from a few on here when I stated very clearly that I was going to get a Compatto. Well after I put one to the shoulder, I was seriously disappointed, just did nor sit well in the shoulder, crappy plastic stock and believe when I say I really really wanted one but just didn't like it at all. You have to be fair about these things and say there are a number of very satisfied owners out there although I have seen a few almost new ones up for sale so perhaps didn't meet the demands of the owner. Phil
  13. I see the bug has bitten good style Nelly, I thought you were skint anyway. Phil
  14. The Compatto had it's issues at the start but there are quite a number of very happy users out there now, the new follow on gun, the Bantam offers a Rapid/ R10/ Impact type of gun which I feel tick a lot of boxes for many shooters. Price will be the all important factor with this gun. I like the options that are on offer especially the carbon fibre bottle and the shot count that goes with it. It will be interesting to see how this develops but I would not buy one of the new models for a while until Brocock/Daystate has had time to iron out the issues that seem to go with most new guns laun
  15. I think there is little doubt that I will be having a bit of a sort out. Phil
  16. What a lovely stock to start with but now after Jimmy has cast his fairy dust over it, just stunning, simply stunning. Phil
  17. I would like to hear the response to that question Si...... Phil
  18. I have been offered a cocker spaniel Mark, a Crufts champion no less, broke a tooth so no more showing but at 5 years old, a little old to start training I think despite the fact that it is free. It is difficult to explain Mark but the cottage sticks into the field on 3 sides with 3' walls and the drive sweeps into the rear patio with no gate or fence. The cost of installing a suitable fence and gates run into a few grand because the last thing I want is not to be able to look across the field with a high fence so we are talking custom made wrought iron or similar and to be honest, is it w
  19. Or put it on the Wildcat, plenty of shots per fill, just right for a night's ratting. Phil
  20. I popped into my local RFD today for a coffee while I was in Scunthorpe and told him what we were thinking of doing, he smiled, then disappeared in the back and came out with this. £50 which is spot on. I have not bought it yet as we are as a matter of interest going to see what sort of deals are on offer if he can trade in for a gun with adjustable stock but at least we have one stashed if that is the route we are taking. Thanks for looking out chaps. Phil
  21. Thank you very much Simon. We were going to leave things for a while but to be honest, the house seems empty without any cats so we are trying to sort a couple of young cats and kittens from a rescue centre but we are not the only ones wanting these particular cats so it is a waiting game. Trish, my wife, has been really down since the loss of Sylvie and with Christmas coming up, it would be wonderful if we can them for the holiday period as it will lift all our spirits. Fingers crossed Phil
  22. That rifle is beautiful!! A real work of art!! It will be up for sale soon I think. Phil
  23. Lucky man Si, I really want a rat problem farm down here. Phil
  24. I agree John, this time of the year, money is always tight with everyone's budget being stretched. A good time to buy but not to sell. I think I may be onto a stock at a good price..........fingers crossed Phil
