rescue went not quite to plan

Recommended Posts

cpl night ago got a phone call off a young lad i know saying he had lost his terrier in a set well i say night it was about 4 pm he said it had been in all day, was a few lads down there who pretend to know everything so wished him look and that was that, about 730 got another call he still hadnt found the dog as other lads where going home but they had been trying to dig it out and had used a young terrier to try find it as he hadnt a locator on it as was only out bushing.

well i sopose my consience (spelling) got the better of me and i chucked my dog a cpl spade torches and the bellman in motor and went to meet him. arriving at the set i nearly pissed myself as the ppl who had been helping him had dig a hole 2 ffot round 3 foot deep about 5 foot from an enterance trying to find the dog i said what the fuckk is that all about!!!!!! some bloody ppl i tell ya. i listened in all holes as they said its been cpl hours since it had been heard, i could hear a slight groaning from one but you know how hard it is when the pulse in your head is booming ect ect. they said the had been told this set was 15 foot deep and had been dog loads of times by the jackanories.looking over it had it fuckk been diug more than once prob as you can tell strait away as was on a shallow dyke side speading out onto rough grass, a fairly sprawling set of 6 holes over maybe 50 yrds. its sand and gravel so i guessed the dog had been digging on and back filled its self.i sunk a bar in a few times and still couldnt hear anything to get exited about so with some reluctance i collored up my dog and in he went. now them bellmans are a godsend i can tell ya ! i followed the dog around for a good while hoping to get some sort of indication as to his dog but my suspisions where aroused when he struck up and didnt quite settle in one place. after about 3/4 hour he settled well well away from thye sett under a fuukin tree at 3.1 mtrs! great i thought fukin great at this time of night, they asked the question of will we have to dig it! erm yes was my reply so get going! i marked out the top as they had only been icecream coneing earlier and they started, well fuuck me i forgot how useless ppl are at digging when they havent done any, it was painfull to say the least! in the end i had to be in as they had dug a foot deep shit hole in about a half hour! i set on and when i get my head down i just tend to go so i did just that. at aboput 5 foot it turned into the hard packed sand/gravel but once chipped wasnt too bad, i dont like this type of stuff as find it dangerous but anyway, at 150am i broke through to find my dog happily occuping his quarry and no sign of the other dog! typical isnt it! i was half pleased as it was a good dig to him and looking at him i knew he would feel it the next day. we packed up and left as they where comig back first light to backfill and find a spade that i had burried, they did this and still no sign of his dog. at 12 pm next day he had given up but i just said try ringing up everyone i.e dog wardens ect ect as you never know when it loses some weight it might free itself i didnt know what else to say as the option of ringing any authority would maybe land everyone in bother due to the setts location and status. 5pm he rang and said his dog just been picked up by lads in the quarry a few hunderd yrds away from the sett, he was chuffed and to be honest so was i as leaving any dog to ground no matter who the owner is a hard thing too do. it was little worse for wear but still ok and im pretty sure it had filled itself in, i thought it would survive a bit as the gravel element will proib hold some air unlike soft sand.

anyway a good result for him and for me and at least i went and tried as would of felt guilty if i hadnt

well done spider you tried any way and was a good result in the end ,dug 13 ft other week to mine to find him stuck in sand with no sign of foxy ,but was glad to get dog out ok ,the deeper you go in sand it normally gets finer and finer ,we have a good few deep digs a year in sand and this will happen now and again ,but its not the dogs fault these things happen . ps . am now living in france lol :D
