Popular Post sionnach99 1,366
A great weekend with A good pair of friends who come up for a couple weekends hunting every year to me. Started off Friday checked the first earth , very well ran however a promising young dog with 7/8 digs under his belt said no, tried a more experienced bitch. She also said no so that was good enough for us he wasn’t in it but not far away. Went across the road checked another one on the same farm he wasn’t in it but down the ditch we checked an earth I never got game out of before and sure enough it was holding. Lovely digging at 1.0m out the flat of the field . 1 accounted for. Up the road to the next farm and broke through to 4 in the pocket. I broke through to 6 in pocket lastyear in the same earth. went up the road further to the next spot a big old rangey place a good test for any dog 2 animals out of it. Called in to the village for a fry, cup of tea and a bit of craic , 12 o’clock and 7 dug. On we went again and checked a few along a bank hit one there . Then hardship came our way , I went to next farm along a railway embankment that I had savage hardship at over the years a stupid decision but the dog was in and working its quarry there was no point crying now. After about 2 hours we broke through to the dog with the game. Filled it in and f****d off, we were at 9 , weve had 9 a few times never got the ten and I wasn’t going home on 9 again. Went on to another man’s farm in the dark the earth was polished and another dog flew in. Dug it in the dark , 6 digs 10 animals. Went back to where the lads were staying for food and couple drinks and hit for bed. up early next morning to meet at the kennels, done a couple hours on foot no joy with scent being poor in the frost , hounds hunted well in the shade but once it crossed the open smell vanished. What harm was lovely to be out. Went and got a dinner in local village and on and tried 3 more earths and got 2 digs. 10 for Friday and 2 for Saturday. The Dogs and men were tired Sunday. 21 Quote Link to post

There my mates own stuff , stuff he bred himself over the last 30 years . Started off with a trial Wheaton I believe and smooth red fell and just bred everything back into itself over the years. Very very good animals . They would be very tightly bred. 4 Quote Link to post
