record foxing night

[FOXHUNTER 5,021]

I was kindly invited up to the Scottish Borders by my mate BRNO17 for a spot of foxing. I took David with me to shoot as he just loves those foxes

 

We went to BRNO17s place first and started off with a cub which was lying out in a swamp , no way of getting any closer so the pressure was on for David who pulled off a great 1st shot of the night shooting the cub in the head at approx 180 yds

 

Next we headed out for a bank wherethere was a litter of cubs , as we reached the spot I flicked the lamp on and there was the bright eyes shining back , David dropped to the floor and this time shot the vixen with a head shot also

 

We went a bit further and put up another cub out of some bracken which headed for the near by wood , as it stopped at the fence and was trying to squeeze through the wire David launched another 58 gr v-max and that was number 3 in the bag , good going so far

 

It then started to get a little misty so we thanked Alan for a good night and headed off .................

 

 

 

On arrival at my ground there was no mist so we decided to try our luck ......................

 

On reaching the farm I lamped onto the opposite banking , there was 2 sets of eyes but we couldnt get a shot for the tall bracken

 

We continued round the back of the farm ,there was a fox lying on top of a dry stone wall , once again David head shot this vulpine , when we picked it ,it was still lying on top of the wall

Then we tried some grass fields near a gorse banking beside some forestry where I thought there may be a litter........

 

We quickly spied our next customer , this one was shot at real close range off Davids sticks , another head exploder

The next cub was a cracking shot from david taken at about 200 yards and yes once again shot in the head

We packed in at 3am as David had to get back but if wed continued til dawn Im sure we would have hit double figures.

 

What a brilliant nights foxing , great shooting from David and thanks again Alan for the invite

My personal record for a single night is five and they don't come along all that often so grab them when you can, fox control is fickle as you well know.

 

A superb write up too, illustrated 'an all.

how come when a lad killed a fox cub with his dogs hes a c**t it had no chance blah blah blah and hes wrong for going out yet but on the other hand these lads have shot a few in one night and theyre heroes???????????????? not knocking the shooting lads but just seems like double standards to me no slating going on in this thread

aye mark it was a great night, good to get out on the lamp again. you werent wrong about bringing the lucky head mate , 7 in one night thats a good nights foxing in anybody's book. you and david will have to come back up soon before the birds arrive to tidy up the rest.

 

david well done on some great shooting under pressure mate and good to meet you at last. i think i might have to get a T3 after all, but to make it harder next time your only allowed eye shots

rexdigger... it doesn't matter if you kill them with a dog, cat, bird, gun, baseball bat, etc, etc someone will complain; fact of life!

 

But I don't understand the apparent rift between the dog boys and shooters, nobody has exclusive rights and we should both be able to work together without slagging each other off. I get help from the dogs sometimes just as I do from the ferrets....and I get calls from them sometimes!!!!

 

But this could wonder off into a whole new thread.....

Thanks lads for all the replies , we had a great nights fox control , note I say control as this is sheep farming country and foxes have to be controlled heavily here as there is a never ending supply of foxes crawling out of the forestry where no control takes place.

 

I am not bothered if they are controlled with guns or dogs but to be honest mate no dog would ever match the rifle in this part of the world , the topography doesnt allow it !!
