Dan_Jones 7
Why is everyone selling up with .22 and turning to .177 ?? I know there are more accurate but surly .22 will hit harder ? Even when you see people trying to swap .22 it says for .177 only.. Cheers Dan. Quote Link to post
rabbit_killer 2
maybe because they cant use a .22 properly and cant get there heads arround where the pellet will be at what distance?? who knows?? i dont Quote Link to post
The one 8,577
i dont know i prefer the .22 for the stopping power but my mate like's the .177 because it's a bit faster ,it six and half a dozen if you ask me Quote Link to post
lamping-lad 160
air gunner magazine done a test on this with 2 guns the same and both scopes the same one 22 and one 177 and basicly it came down to personal prefrences what one couldnt do the other could and vice/versa. and i prefer 177 Edited August 9, 2008 by lamping-lad Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Why is everyone selling up with .22 and turning to .177 ?? I know there are more accurate but surly .22 will hit harder ? Even when you see people trying to swap .22 it says for .177 only.. Cheers Dan. .22 still outsells .177 by a factor of more than 2 to 1. And it is news to me "...everyone selling up with .22 and turning to .177" They are NOT more accurate!! A common, incorrect use of terminology! They just fly flatter and faster; over a given distance .22 are just as accurate as .177, they just drop quicker so you have to think more about the shot when you are out in the field! .177 are used a lot for target work,..one reason being the drop, another being the fact they make smaller holes, so with outward scoreing you have a chance of getting a higher tally! shenners 0
I prefer 177 also, but that doesnt mean a well zeroed 22 isnt just as accurate. Only at ranges in excess of, say, 30 yards will the 177 have any real advantage in my book.........but I still prefer 177 in sub 12ft/lb guns and 22 in FAC. I'll tell the rabbit in my freezer it can go home now because i only shot it with a 177 :) Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
i perfer 177 in standard 12ftlb form. its not more accurate like deker said. i think its more forgiving thats why alot of people like it better. in 22 i find the limit is 30 yards on vermin for me i just dont like the way the pellet drops on 22. where 177 is very flat and is pretty forgiving from 30 yards to 40. i shot a rabbit the other night at 47 yards with 177 so as long as you no the rifle it can be done Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
To reply to the original post. It's news to me too. It all boils down to personal preference. All calibres have their advantages and disadvantages and it comes down to what you're used to and after in an air rifle. Shot placement over calibre any time. If you can't hit it it's going to laugh at you. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Not another bloody calibre question! Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
Certainly won't be the last question either.... Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
once zeroed ........no problem!!! i agree with chris on this one. shot placement regardless of calibre regards sean Quote Link to post
gilly-93 31
I only ever used .177 and will stick to it more than likely but as Chris & Sean says shot placement is key... Quote Link to post
RAMCAM 4
I own a hw97k carbine v-mach tuned .177 11.5 ftp took a magie 67 yards on telegraph pole stone dead h&n ft 8.4 grn. For sale £220 absolute bargain looking for a multi shot pcp .177. will consider falcon or s410 anyone interested. I hate .22 NON FAC you can see the pellet flying might as well use a flerter (catapult) larger calibre lol. Quote Link to post
