trappa 518
Anyone know whether its ok to gut rabbit roadside? I usually just quickly paunch them in the field, but ive got a couple of spots where this cant be done ( large houses). Ive been there lately a couple of times and have stopped on a lonely road ( north yorks moors to be exact) and just gutted them roadside and drove off. Its only guts and not littering imo, but last time i had double figures to do and a car drove past with some woman staring daggers at me. Where do i stand? is it ok to continue doing this legally ( not ethically)? . Im not mad keen on gutting at home with the bins getting emptied once a fortnight now. I used to freeze the guts and put them out on bin day , but freezers are chokka so thats not an option.
mark01856 7
ive wondered that. sorry it might be a bit off topic, but is it legal to carry rabbits in public view, it just when i walk home i have to pass a busy road and along a few streets, and i only have a small rucksack, and last time i forgot a carrier bag. whippeter94 0
Not to sure on tht one but if you do then thers a chance a fox will cross the road to get to the guts or a badger that could get hurt doing so but im not sure there is no law against it is there, if so iv never herd of it
john b 38
There probably is a law against it - like everything else but I can confirm that it doesn't look like it's made illegal by the new fallen stock legislation See question 4 on here
gwhite80 0
Not sure if illegal but it does leave you open to abuse if an anti is about. If you use the same area they might catch up to you and apparently they are not classed as game (more's the pity sometimes)
masmiffy 82
Not sure of the legallity either but have gutted on the roadside myself! Usually dig a hole and bury em though! Once did a roadkill munty in a ditch on the side of the road, was hit by the car in fron of me! Had the old bill stop and ask what I was doing but when I explained they just said OK hurry up and get off quick!
Coney 3
If it is against the law it's a new one on me ( not saying it is'nt just never herd of one ) usally do mine in the field and what does'nt go in my bag gets stashed under a hedge out of sight.
Rolfe 2
It would probably come under the terms of fly-tipping......illegal dumping of waste...........not too sure though. You can be pretty sure it would fall foul of some archaic law somewhere...........! If i cannot dig a hole and bury the rabbits guts on site...........then i usually have a couple of black bin bags that i use to transport the waste away to somewhere i can safely dispose of it. SNAP SHOT 194
i would say it would come under a littering offence myself, or fly tipping as stated above. The less joe public see the better, not that it's something to be ashamed of but outta sight outta mind as far as the public are concrened.
dytkos 17,899
Only if you get caught! If people can get fined for throwing fag butts and sandwich remains out of car windows (both bio-degradable), I am sure any jobsworth copper would be looking to ensure that you got the same. Find a quiet spot!

Find a quiet spot! biodegradable fag butts? since when? the filtered ones ae a nuisance, seem to be more and more of them about since the smoking ban, especially outside pubs and shops, i think if you got an arsehole of a police officer on a bad day he'd prob do you for littering, think he'd be more interested in any rifle or knife you were carrying at the time tho and checking on your permision imo
The one 8,566
Often wondered that myself when we go lamping we stop at a picnic area on the way home pop the rabbits onto one of the tables and gut them into a poly bag then pop the bag into one of the bins . often wondered what the council boy's thought when they saw the blood on the road or emptied the bin
Tracy36 0
as far as I can see and of those I ve asked trappa, there is no law about gutting roadside (only sqeamish public), leaving entrails around is not fly tipping and carrying them in public is not illegal (again squeamish people may object or pull faces at you)
COMPO 54
Only if you get caught! If people can get fined for throwing fag butts and sandwich remains out of car windows (both bio-degradable), I am sure any jobsworth copper would be looking to ensure that you got the same. Find a quiet spot! A lot of these offences are prosecuted by the council and their street wardens! it would be littering....but as masmiffy said they were advised.hurry up and clear off. same with most laws, its only a problem if someone complains, rabbit guts are bio-degradeable and eaten by corvids, foxes and badgers etc....however try and be discreet and dont get caught and no one will know or care! I must admit i have done the same, when ferreting roadsides, and once when i couldn't gut them where i caught them. But try and find a lay by with a nearby bunch of tree's.....out ofsight out of mind
