@Bendigo, just to add, my daughters were hating school and left at 14….they have vocational schools here which are a bit like 6th form as in you can ware your own clothes etc but it’s very informal and they enrolled there (much to everyone’s frowns as it’s looked down on here)

They also at the same time went to work in the chippy, grafted every night/weekends etc 

It was just what they needed, they used the money to fund qualifications that allowed them to do real things in the real world, one of them qualified in adult social care and cops about 40 grand a year and the other is the global legal secretary for a big group of gaming companies, works from home, gets flown about the world (they even fly her boyfriend and my grandson with her because she says she won’t go without them !), she is copping best part of 100k a year (she don’t tell dad ! lol)……all that came from just transferring to an environment that worked better for them and just learning to work in the real world. 
 

Everyone is an individual, homeschool has the ability to allow them to be the best version of themselves….theres isn’t a blue print for that, no “department” can tell you what it is, it’s something you and your lad get to discover together.

Don’t get hung up on ticking someone else’s boxes mate, no need.

So, if you had taken a second to process what I wrote, you said “don’t do it, it’s bad for them socially” or something along them lines and I pointed out that, that just isn’t true because even a lad with autism can learn to function better than most “normal” adults socially when home schooled !

Er go, home school don’t effect them socially at all just because it’s homeschool ! If an autistic lad can fly then anyone can fly.

It’s false to say otherwise.

It can in fact be much better.

Id say all the autistic lads ive been about  the most rounded is one i grew up with he went to school with me from primary at somethings memory etc hes on a hole different level mind works different had some aggro over him at school  but I never ever seen him cry some licks he got 

Until a teacher shouted at him first time his mind hadnt processed that even then into secondary school now at a funeral last month hes with the lads that were in the rugby team had me thinking natures mad the ones hes with a  few of them  most likely you'd call bad and bullies at times even when young but those were the ones he was cracking on with they got a handshake and a cuddle they never bullied him the opposite  hes worked since school 

 

But id say theres alot more now then ever

This isn’t a thread about autism mate, it’s a thread about home school and a lad looking for views from people with Experience in home school.

My daughters Autistic and I think that home schooling her would be the worst possible thing for her as Ive seen what being kept at home for a year over lockdown did to her.She went from a happy go lucky kid with loads of friends to an introverted,anxious,very socially awkward and selective mute with all but her closest family and 2 friends.Luckily shes now in year 9 at a grammer school that have an amazing SEN department and has a fantastic group of friends and is now flourishing.Saying that though if she'd of ended up in the local comprehensive it may have been a different story as she'dhave more than likely been seen as a victim to be picked on and bullied by little feral c**ts raised by backward parents.I think theres no one size suits all answer and that every parent has to try and do what they truly believe is best for their kids.

Exactly that mate, there is no “rule” or one size fits all, I think home school parents (or ones considering it) can get too hung up with that education system mindset of having I reach goals and tick boxes…..it don’t work like that, or at least it don’t have to if you don’t want to.

It’s so much more flexible than that, you don’t have to sit a kid at the kitchen table every day bored out their f***ing tree because that may not suit their personality……maybe they learn better out making things in the shed while listening to a pod cast about history or science or world events ?

Maybe they thrive in the woods ? Or om a market stall ?

Maybe they like going beating and interacting with adults,  maybe they come to work with you now and again ? 
Maybe you sit outside the supermarket and send them into get the weeks shopping with a list ?

Every single thing you do is a learning experience or can be used as one.

For some kids the stability and routine of a school environment is exactly what they need…..one size don’t fit all, that’s the same for everyone not just kids with additional needs.

Its worth looking at how Scandinavians do education, they don’t apply the same pressures we do…..they do it totally different.

But as a kid its normal for someone you've beat your age to get someone older to come aint it ? At some point your going to come up were its not in your favour

My eldest been kickboxing since the age of 4...he's not shy,And is certainly no bully and has never thrown his weight about,he can stand up for himself...but times have changed..you fill someone in these days,and they come back and stab or chop you up with a machete...

We have just lost a local 17 yr old , he was murdered by 4 others over some chopsing off on social media.. good lad who played rugby with my nephews,none of the gutless maggots could of beat him,one on oneRIP Tristan Kerrthis happened in a little Welsh mining village...and 3 out of 4 are local and white.....wtf like that's the mentality of today's youth...can't lose face,the big I am..Well that's 5 families f****d,and more  repercussions.... because it will just keep going...

A pal of mine runs a big martial arts and “combat” school in the U.K., he trains all sorts of people from kids to government agency’s and everything in between.

A very, very capable lad……he always said in his self defence classes “The first thing you do if you can is run away” !

All this Rambo mindset won’t save a nice lad out with his mates from some animal who wants to plunge you !

We don’t live in a world of Queensbury rules straighteners anymore, it just naive to think we do. 
 

I don’t think there is anything wrong with young people (or anyone) removing themselves from environments that ain’t good…..who the f**k wants to hang round with a load of dogs every day ?

Change the environment, change the outcomes !

My lad just wasn't coping in school we talked to my Mrs sister who's a special needs teacher about home schooling and her thoughts on it she thought it would be better for him schooling at home  after a lot of research we went for it he's like a sponge on subjects that he's interested in like history/ maths  he's more audio and visual on screens than say reading but more importantly I had him working with me got him meeting people which he wasn't overly confident with at first till he has worked someone out  got him wood work tools and wood to make things with he was cooking with the Mrs making all sorts like soups from scratch game and bird recipes he's learning to drive were applying for his shotgun permit he is going back to the gym soon but as wilf and deep south pointed out no two kids are the same and no two days or even hours are like mc

This has always happened though mate as bad as it is knifes beaten to.death with a stick world's a nasty place 

But a little rumble at a school is that most of the time and threats do get made and if there going that route a change a school won't stop it

Cheers wilf much appreciated he has started taking a interest in politics and political history he's full of facts it was funny listening to him debate with some leftys that started on him over a comment on line he ruined them with facts and figures he reminded me of you when he said young blackmen make up 3% of males in london are responsible for 60% of murders on blacks he said 4% of the population are Muslim yet 18%of the prison population are Muslim and 90%of mass rapes are by Muslims and a load of other stuff
