Bedlington Terriers do they

Recommended Posts

Going off on a tangent here, there was massive interest in supposed working Bedlingtons amongst certain types in late '80's/early '90's. A wall eyed merle collie cross lurcher completed the look. Add a flat cap, Barbour jacket and Hunter wellies and you were in the club. Most that I seen were standard KC show and pet stuff with different haircuts. All Gutchcommon/Rillington of course but the pedigrees I seen, no they were not.

A lad who lived close to me had a "breeding pair". The dog was approx 19" TTS. Despite his height and racy build was slower in a foot race than my conventionally sized terriers if there was something in front of them that they wanted. The bitch was of a size to get to ground but had the conformation and constitution of a curly coated Italian Greyhound. The poor thing was bred from every time she came into season it seemed. The pups fetched a canny price.

One time when he tagged along we passed a kicked out "earth". It was rat warren in a sandbank on the bend of a stream where I would sometimes let my dogs expend a bit of energy digging in before calling them off before going too deep. No mark that day but as we passed he nodded to the "earth" and said "bolted a red 'un from there last week". I didn't say anything but learned a lot.

No disrespect intended to the genuine working Bedlington terrier men, but you meet some knackers.
